AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 A lot of people have basically written Izturis off. In 2013, he had the wost offensive and defensive years of his career. His last negative WAR year before that was 2004 with the Expos. He's usually a plus defender and decent with the bat. So, perhaps we shouldn't discard him based on one bad year. Since we don't have many better options, he has my vote to the starting 2B for 2015. Hopefully, he turns things around and puts up 2 WAR this season.

AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2015 Author Posted February 18, 2015 Why would you want to ban me? I'm not even black.

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 He's still on the team? wow
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 He's still on the team? wow He signed 3/9, of course he is.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 I don't have much hope for Izturis but there's nothing to lose at this point. If he starts the season the way he did last year, that will make a nice bridge to Travis who himself may only be a bridge to DSJ. If Izturis doesn't do well then it's just a sunk cost and hopefully Travis won't be overwhelmed if he's needed a little sooner.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Don't count out Ricky Romero either.

reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 He's a big wildcard and as long as he is healthy I can't see Travis or anyone else getting the starting gig. Travis might take over soon but it's hard to expect him to come out of spring as the #1.

I doubt anyone cares what the guy who missed a season falling up the stairs in the dugout has to say.

Gibby could barely keep a straight face at the state of the franchise when discussing Izturis and his injury.

Teahen was just a salary dump the Jays had to take on in the complicated Colby Rasmus trade. Teahen = sunk cost.
flafson Verified Member Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Wildcards usually have some upside sir. That's what we said about Goins, i still think he has some upside but i wouldn't hold my breath on it.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 But Izturis has actually excelled at this level in the past. Meaning, he has it in him. Will he ever get it again? Who the hell knows.....but we can't say he doesn't have the abillity to get it done....cause he already has. Worst season of his career followed by a full missed season. Hard to envision a bounce back.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 You don't just take a year off baseball and come back better... I am almost rooting for ARod to do just this

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Worst season of his career followed by a full missed season. Hard to envision a bounce back. Sure it's hard to envision but it's not reasonable to just blankedly assume it can't happen either. Whatever went wrong in 2013 can't just be chalked up to regression. It's far too extreme an outlier for that. It's nearly impossible for him to be that bad again. He won't be prime Izturis again either of course but he might still be a below average but nonetheless above replacement player (somewhere around 1 WAR).

I think Izturis has potential to not completely suck. what happened last your was clumsy, but mostly it was a freak accident. He'll have himself in really good shape and ready to play trying to prove he can still play. might be a good thing.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Gibby could barely keep a straight face at the state of the franchise when discussing Izturis and his injury. I'm sure Izturis got hazed for it all last season. ball players would never let something like that "slide" you could put in a ramp at his locker so he doesn't hurt himself again.
