The Rangers have acquired RHP Tom Wilhelmsen, OF James Jones, and a PTBNL from Seattle for RHP Anthony Bass and OF Leonys Martin.

Funny thing is, the 2013 and 2014 version of Martin is probably exactly what we should expect from Pillar moving forward. In 2015 Martin fetches a middle reliever (who's basically Delabar) and people getting paid to follow baseball are suggesting TiaWalker for Pillar...

Craziness.

That is surprisingly accurrate

This is also a bad trade for Texas though. They basically just swapped players, and lost the better players.

He really does come off as someone without a defined plan, hes all over the place the whole article (lol at citing Aybar's avg as him being a plus offensive SS)

“I think the more talent you can get, whether they’re guys who are big on-base or low on-base, big power or low power, if they’re good winning pieces they will help us score runs and win games.”

That quote doesn't make a whole lot of sense

Sometime I wonder, if after a trade has been made and it's sunk in that you f***ed up, that they just spew out garbage to try and justify their f***-ups.......it has to be that.....or ATL just hired their 2nd consecutive moron.

On analytics and perception: “I think there might be a perception out there that we’re an old school organization, because we don’t tell Fredi who to play or where to hit them, or who to pitch. That doesn’t mean we’re not on the cutting edge of analytics. We’ve made a lot of hires, especially to help grow our analytics department, in the last few weeks.

This shows they're behind everyone else, except maybe Dombrowski.

jays don't need another guy who they have no idea how many innings he can go. We need a proven 2 or 3 type of guy. Hill could be good, but it's hard to know what you're getting after just a couple games where his arm didn't fall off.

Trade is an easy win for the Mariners IMO. Martin is a skilled player and his bat isn't as bad as he's shown, at least I don't think. Although with DeShields they had no room for him.

Didn't not is probably an error by the person doing the transcript. People don't usually say that unless they're joking or being purposely deceitful.

Pillar isn't even arb eligible until 2018 and it's yet to be seen if this is his best season. Defense is being valued more than ever, so I'm no seeing the accuracy here. Pillar is much more valuable than a fringe reliever no matter how you spin it.

Yup. He might now have much of an offensive ceiling but given our powerhouse lineup he is a perfect fit. He provides tremendous value compared to what he costs and you don't simply give up that type of value easily.

Agreed. However, after looking at both a little closer I can see the resemblance. I still believe Pillar to be the better player and the extra years of control are a huge difference in value. I might be one of the few that don't think Pillar has peaked. Pillar has a lot more power as well, something that should be considered when discussing outfielders.

I didn't realize that Freddie Freeman had such strong Canadian ties and how much he wants to play for Canada at the WBC in 2017

Are there any hurdles that he needs to go through or can we already pencil him in as our 1B/DH playing for Canada?

It's a no brainer, the guy would be coming in on a cheap contract, you do it everytime. It's not going to be one and done with Hill, they'll be looking for another arm.

Surprisingly because you think I'm dumn?

No... Surprising because I didn't realize how similar Martin and Pillar are until I looked at their stats side-by-side.

Freeman would be a great pick up. Not sure the Jays have the prospects to get him though, unless Atlanta wants to continue their derp way of team building.
