McDude Verified Member Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 oh man, thats harsh, hopefully he'll be ok soon without any major side effects.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 He was stabilized. But his health turned worse. Swelling turned to bliztering and the top of his foot turned black in spots. Doctors worried necrosis might force them to amputate the foot. They had to scrub dead tissue off Jameson's foot, a painful process, every morning until Tuesday, his first clear day. "The last thing I want to do is think about baseball," Axford said. "We're not sure what is happening. We're trying to take things step by step." Ugh, John. Ugh, author. Don't use that quote.

In addition to this money they have meals available at the stadium each day and I'm sure they can get breakfast for free at their hotels on the road. We'll see fat Osuna again in no time! But that ~$15k tax free money is pretty significant for those making basically the minimum.

The top steakhouses here in Toronto for e.g. can have a steak alone cost anywhere from $50 to $300. Then you throw on sides for $15-$30. Add expensive wine, and then gratuities and you're probably at $200 for a full meal for an appetite appropriate for an athlete. I still find it s***** to ask the rookies to pay for the meals, though. If I were a guy with a multi-million contract, I would offer to pay the meals for the rookies.

That's their choice to eat out though. I'm just saying you can get fed easily without having to dip into the per diem money. There's a story that Rickey Henderson used to save all the envelopes he got for per diem and let his kids pick one if they came home with a good report card.

Don't worry, Daniel Norris will treat the other rookies to a campfire meal of beans, canned tuna & rice with ice tea once a week.

Laika Community Moderator Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Why can't they just call it an M? Three reasons. 1) Inverted W is a more memorable term than "the M", which is too short. 2) An M and a W aren't really mirror images as commonly written. M's have vertical legs 3) because you touch yourself at night
Rusty_Savage Verified Member Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Why isn't a W called a double V? Or two upside down A's without vertical lines?
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Why isn't a W called a double V? because thats the name of the grossest whiskey I have had the displeasure of tasting A buddy brought it back from some trip and we made everyone at a party help finish it because it was so terrible. Better stick with the inverted W
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Why isn't a W called a double V? It IS in French... Who the f*** knows. English has alot of stupid rules that make no sense
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 You'll also be pleased to know that there's an Inverted L. Laika Community Moderator Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Buehrle is basically the model. You want that arm cocked (upright), hand and forearm pointed toward the corner base at foot plant, and you don't want a stiff front leg. But really the problem isn't the arm action itself. A pitcher can have an ugly Inverted W and still get to where Buehrle is at the critical moment. The messy arm actions just lead to an increased likelihood that a guy's timing will be off when it matters. They are like proxy measures, because most of the time there is no high speed camera of a guy's motion. But there's a reason that people do the "tricks". They increase stress on the arm/elbow/shoulder, and that stress can = more velocity! Guys (coaches) can trade a bit of health for a bit of velocity, in theory, sort of. Also this isn't science and you're talking about increases in % chance of getting hurt - pitching at all, even with perfect form, is unnatural and dangerous.

I don't have much faith in biomechanics at all because it don't know where it's foundation lies. On the surface it just seems like a shared group of truisms. Is there any actual science to it at all?
