KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Welcome back Luis Perez to Toronto.. whether he contributes is another question: Pleasant surprise. He showed real promise. IIRC, Hurl was pretty upset that the Jays let him go but looks like he boomeranged back to them at no cost.

He didn't throw a single inning for the Braves. If he's fully recovered, he has a decent shot to fight for a bullpen spot. But he's most likely Buffalo bound.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Welcome back Luis Perez to Toronto.. whether he contributes is another question: This guy is outstanding when healthy, dirty stuff, tops 98 mph IIRC. He must have been recovering from his surgery last year. Can't recall if it was TJ or another soft tissue surgery on his throwing arm.

Yeah I'd say the decision to not give him a roster spot hab been vindicated but it was a little weird considering the extent to which they went to give opportunities to McGowan.

If I remember correctly McGowan had incredible stuff. The brass probably thought that he was worth more trouble trying to keep than Perez.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Looks more and more like Cecil will be the closer, stocking up on LHP relief options. I definitely like this.
bendera3 Verified Member Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 And meanwhile McGowan is STILL unsigned. I'd like to bring McGowan back as a strict reliever. It seemed that they were trying to keep him stretched out, which made his arm explode.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Oh yeah he showed some real promise a few years back. Could be a sneaky good bullpen addition.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Always liked Perez. Nice pickup.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I'm okay with this. Minor league deals and some sort of terrible historical figure and all...
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Luisito Perez is a good lefty arm. Me gusta!!

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I'd sign McGowan on a minor league deal. Just tell him he isn't a lock to make the roster and we'd love to have him work it out in Buffalo. He's got enough stuff that it could all click at any time... just don't need those 'working it out' innings in our MLB pen.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I'm so sick of Dustin McGowan. I just don't want him to have anything to do with this team at this point. I don't care if he's got good stuff and he can break out. There's a thousand relievers that can say the same. I just have this terrible feeling that the second McGowan signs with the Jays, be it even a minor league deal, he'll automatically be destined to throw a significant number innings in 2015. I called McGowan giving up a homer on three separate occasions last year. Since 2011, he's given us a total of -0.1 wins. I have no confidence in this guy pitching for a contending team, and I'd be very content with them finally telling him to f*** off, and closing this chapter for good.
Governator Community Moderator Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Hell yes, I loved Perez, he was always so much better than the results he got and I think he could be a gem for this bp.
