King Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 In addition to this, LaCava was also on the Network today, when joined MLB Now to discuss the farm system. Link here: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/7417714/v37207135/blue-jays-assistant-gm-lacava-on-teams-farm-system Haven't heard it yet so I'm not sure if there's anything of substance, but it's always interesting to get insight from others inside the FO. I'll listen.
King Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 1st minute, host guy asks how the landscape (prospects) have changed since the Mets/Marlins trades etc. LaCava lists guys who were prospects and made an impact last year, Sanchez, Stroman and Pillar, and mentions the glimpes of Pompey and Norris, and Graveman Asked about Sanchez plans for 2015, and potential role Says they plan to use him as a SP in spring training, but not ruling out a role as a reliever, and he said they think he's going to be a really good SP. Asked about the ceiling of Dalton Pompey said "we think he's going to be really good" (lol), mentions his rise from tooolsy guy from Canada and injuries along his minor league ladder, and how he improved at every level this season. "We think he's going to be an above average major league player." Asked about Daniel Norris, said he's a good person and hard worker lol that was a waste of 5 minutes
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Yeah, seemed he was just introducing the prospects to casual fans and fans of other teams that might not know who they are lol. Loved the line where he said Norris is the kind of kid you'd wish your daughter would date, haha.

Your criticism is appreciated. Sounds about right.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I think thats the first time I've ever heard Tony Lacava speak.

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Whats wrong with Greenwood, why are you so literal?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 What's the point of stretching Sanchez out in ST if they're going to use him in the pen? We all know he's going to the pen, as much as they try to say they view him as a starter.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 My question to Beeston is whether they're going to acquire one of the remaining relievers in free agency. I mean, we're at the point many of them are affordable now out of desperation to sign a deal before Spring Training starts 2 weeks from now.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 SP #4 > CloZer I agree but it seems pretty unlikely that Sanchez starts the year in the rotation when they didn't sign a single reliever to an MLB deal. I actually hope for the sake of the SP depth that Sanchez starts but I don't think he will. I think they've lined everything up purposely so that Sanchez could close.

Estrada?

Put 3 or 4 decent arms in the bullpen and you will obtain good results. A good bullpen is very easy to build. Sanchez is starter until he fail at MLB level.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Who is the 5th starter then? Estrada? 1-Estrada, 2-Norris, 3-Sanchez
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Why did we ignore the teams biggest weakness pitching? why do we seem to not go all the way and settle for mediocrity?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Who is the 5th starter then? Estrada? Yep. My ideal scenario is Sanchez and Norris both starting in AAA with Estrada as the #5 starter and Redmond as the long man, but they seem to want Sanchez in the Majors no matter what.
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 how does the below market value TV contract the Jays have with Rogers effect the player budget? one quality SP for depth, upgrade 2B, and a quality reliever would put the stacked lineup over the top.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 That doesn't look any damn thicker at all. It's still essentially concrete. The carpet in my house is literally thicker than this turf.
