reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 WBC 2013: 8.2 IP, 2 walks and 8 K's Part of that memorable run for the Italian team. You know, the team Canada couldn't beat?

BTS Community Moderator Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 29 year old 5'9" Brazilian dude who tore apart Italian league as starter and Mexican League as reliever. So basically another arm who could be something but will probably be nothing?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Huh. Could be interesting. In a fangraphs.com article from two years ago, it listed him #10 among pitchers in the Italian League (scout-), although that was as a starter. I'm having trouble getting better data on him (the wbc site is being annoying for me), but he pitched vs the dominican republic's stacked lineup in the WBC, and gave up 2 runs in 5.1 innings. Gave up solo shots to Reyes and Cano.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Finally loaded for me. He was throwing 89 to 90, with a curve and change. Add a few ticks out of the pen, and who knows.

At least we know AA is serious about at least trying to address the pen. Once the Belisario signing fell through, he had a plan B. Either that or he planned on bringing both of them in.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I really don't hate what they're doing. There are like 9 potentially interesting guys competing for the last 2-3 spots in the pen. It would obviously be nice to have another elite arm back there with Cecil, but if you can't have that, this is how you do it.

I figure this was probably already in the cards. Interesting signing despite my sarcastic post earlier.

It still doesn't mean AA won't get another decent arm for the later innings. He is waiting the market out and I'm fine with this strategy when it comes to RP. It probably means Sanchez is a lock for the pen though.
Pulk_Pull Verified Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Intriguing, especially considering the janky delivery and armslot. We shall see.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Author Posted January 31, 2015 Tiago Vs Cano -----> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IE9WHzGgYqE Great game for Tiago and Colabello
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I wonder if AA had to negotiate with Oscar, because he sure is scraping the bottom of the trash can. Team has an average at best pitching staff so needs a good bull pen, right now this one looks like a disaster. Fun times.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 So I take it signing soccer players is the new market inefficiency? http://img.fifa.com/images/fwc/2014/players/prt-3/289964.png
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 How's this guy never been given a shot before this though? Sure he's probably nothing and he did it in a bad league, but those numbers are just disgusting. And he's actually faced older competition throughout most of his career. I really like this signing, hope they give him a real shot.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 IF theres one position where signing a bunch of junk and hoping to find something its the bullpen. I don't mind this strategy really as surely there be a player or 2 out of that group of relievers who turn out to be useful. I just really hope we can find a decent 2nd baseman and some OF depth.
