McCarthy, Denorfia and Banderhop could have been great addictions (Pillar, Sanchez and Norris AAA)

Didn't McCarthy sign with the Dodgers?

I actually really liked a lot of the roster related news coming from AA in this interview. Norris over Sanchez as a starter, Thole likely in the minors, Smoke/Valencia at 1B and Edwin at DH. All of that is pretty much music to my ears. Looks like Navarro is either gonna get dealt or used as the backup catcher and both of those scenarios just seem monumentally better than the previous notion, which was T-Hole up and Navarro dh'ing.

I totally agree. Smoke/Valencia at 1B *could* be a very, very good platoon. Those splits!

I'm also warming up to the idea of Norris #5 and Sanchez the closer (or in the 'pen at least) for 2015. I personally prefer Estrada as the long/swing man. But AA seems really high on him.

He should really reevaluate the Castro and Norris ideas

There isn't really a point to holding Norris back as things currently stand. It would just be nice to add a Billingsley/Beachy.

Beachy said he decided on a team, its pretty much not the jays

I'm concerned about the rotation. If Norris is there to start, you have Estrada as a possible useful guy and nothing after him you'd expect to be above replacement-level. At least Dickey and Buehrle are about as close you can find to locks for 200 innings.

Lots of pitching depth traded (justifiably) in the Donaldson trade. Oramas could actually turn out to be a big pickup for this team because like you said there's not much behind the 5th starter. If Estrada and Sanchez start the season in the bullpen, he's practically next in line behind Norris.

Can we f***ing not start the year with 20 year old Castro in the BP?

AA did such a great job to start the offseason. But it looks like he's going to fail again at putting the finishing touches on the roster. I don't even hate AA, but heading into Opening Day with Travis, Pompey, Sanchez, Norris and Castro would be a tragedy.

Estrada looks like the best right-handed reliever in the pen (2nd if you're into Sanchez - not looking to start that debate). I think they'll want him in high-leverage situations.

I'm not in love with the ides of giving all of these youngsters spots out of spring training. It's looking and sounding like:

Norris #5

Sanchez RP

Travis 2B

Pompey CF

Castro possible RP??

Man, I'd much prefer to bring in some pieces and start at least 4 of those guys in the minors out of the gate. As it stands, depth it going to be terrible and a lot of the pieces on the MLB team will have a high bust potential. Not a great combo.

+1..... the bottom half of the roster is going to kill this team

You gotta blame Edward Rogers, AA had a possible trade partner for Navarro to possibly free up money. Would have went a long way. AA is resorting to last ditch efforts unless Shields goes down to 15 AAV

I definitely know where you're coming from, but in the worst case scenario, Ogando, and Beachy are all still available, granted, they have injury concerns, but would still be available by mid-season should that come to pass.

Travis would be much harder to replace, Izturis is pure garbage, and the Jays have nothing after that. Same with Pompey, but at least Saunders could slide over and a Pillar/Dirks platoon could be replacement level.

I doubt that debacle actually had an influence on AA making moves or not.

I'm sure Castro would hold his own in the BP with his FB/SL combo, but why not let him start in AA?

Because the window is NOW!

I must say I'd be pretty disappointed if Castro made the team as a RP out of spring training and they didn't give him the chance to stick as a starter.

To be honest, if he does make the team as a reliever it should tell you what they think of him as a starter. I'd trust their opinion over ours on this one, but if they think he would be a capable starter but needed the bullpen help then that's really dumn.

It's the same thing every year. Everyone who can feasibly contribute to the 25-man is there opening day instead of bringing in decent stop-gaps and saving the depth for AAA. It's the thing that annnoys me the most about this management group.

It's indisputable that more viable ML depth should have been assembled; but under the circumstances I'd rather have Norris, Sanchez, Travis, Pompey and Castro get PA and IP instead of scrubs with replacement level ceilings. Winning teams go out and sign the Aokis and Lowries to ensure 20% of the opening day roster isn't comprised of prospects.

He could probably get a GM job somewhere else. He would definitely be a great Scouting Coordinator.

If AA gets fired (which I don't think merits discussion yet), then he'd immediately move to the top of the interview list for any vacancy.

giving 5 starts to Sanchez while Norris waits in AAA for a month seems like such a no brainer to me. If Sanchez fails, move him to the pen and then call up Norris one month into the season.

Why the f*** are they putting Sanchez in the pen. He needs to continue to be streched out. I would rather see him in AAA starting.

If we're honestly going to just make him a reliever, then I'd rather trade him while his value is considerable.

Isn't the slider the bad pitch? I've heard his fastball is plus plus with the breaking ball pretty bad and the changeup has good speed separation but doesn't have much movement.

I think his slider is the better pitch right now. One of the best sliders in the org IMO.

AA has said in interviews that his slider's inconsistent and needs work and that his change up is much more polished.

He's on right now. So far a couple interesting points.

-Pretty much said if Norris looks good in camp he will be the #5 Starter and Sanchez in the pen

-Cecil will be closer unless they get someone else in trade/FA

-Have in the ballpark of 6 million left on the budget.

Edit: Wow said Castro has a chance to make the pen out of camp and they see him as a reliever.

6M + 5M (if we get rid of Navarro) should be able to get us something decent.

Running out of people to spend it on. Who's left who might command that much? K-Rod? He certainly wouldn't make for the most exciting attribution of funds.

John Schneider said he has one of the best sliders in the organization, as well.

Don't know what's so good about the interview. He basically told us that they were done and that they would be spending less money this year than last year

Assuming you didn't listen to the right interview then. He usually never gives any indication of what is going to happen and in this case talked about specific players and what their roles are going to be.

I wouldn't mind Olivera for 2B if the medicals check out. The reports and video from his showcase were all pretty promising. Guillermo Heredia for CF is another option. Other than that there's no one I would pay that much money too, but I wouldn't mind taking a flier on Mike Adams, Joba, or Ogando for the pen.

Looking like the Jays are gonna more less run with what they have. Ticket sales must be good enough, I guess.
