Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Rumours say it's 1 year, $2.5M + incentives. That's a steal IMO when you consider Brett Anderson got 1 year $10M + incentives. I was always a big Morrow fan. I'm sad to see him go.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Seems light, no? "If" he stays relatively healthy, it'll pay off for him.

Yeah, that's a really strange gap in numbers considering they both have upside but injury history... Yes, Anderson is likely better than Morrow, but he's arguably more risky health wise, and is he really 4x better than Morrow?
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 "If" he stays relatively healthy, it'll pay off for him. For sure. Just surprised he couldn't get more guaranteed.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Seems light, no? Yes if you compare it to an even more injury prone guy in Anderson. But there is a difference as Morrow didn't put up 44 really great innings in Colorado. Morrow is also 30 now (compared to 26 for Anderson). I think it's a fair deal for Morrow
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Anderson is only 26?! o_o Maybe he'll end up being a durable player and can get one more big contract (assuming he puts up a good year I doubt he'll get more than 3 years)
blurnandez Verified Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Wow, nice deal for the Padres. I knew Morrow was going to end up in an NL pitcher's park to rebuild his value. Good luck Brandon.
LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 I don't think Morrow will ever be dominant again but he could be a serviceable starter for some NL team
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Hopefully he doesn't turn into the last Toronto pitcher that went to SD to rebuild his value.

I think it's a fair deal for Morrow It's probably close, but I still think it's light. Just seems like a substantial difference between Morrow and Anderson's contracts, when steamer thinks both are 1 WAR players. Yes, Anderson has probably both a higher floor and ceiling, but is that worth 4x in guaranteed dollars?

Well, the Dodgers have the money, but I agree they shouldn't be that far apart, it is one year after all.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 What's funny? I was wondering the same thing? I think he's referring to lies, the wording???
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Well, the Dodgers have the money, but I agree they shouldn't be that far apart, it is one year after all. I agree. Probably what Friedman has always dreamed of, being able to take a 10M flyer on a guy like Anderson.
