TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 One year of Joyce for two years of Jepsen seem reasonable? I've never thought Joyce was that good,so maybe i'm bias, but imo, the Rays got a pretty solid return. Yeah, I don't think its an unreasonable return, or that one side fleeced the other. But goes to show, if money is tight, or AA doesnt see value at the level of $$ being paid for free agent relievers, we wont just be able to flip a couple mid level prospects to get quality pen arms. The price paid in terms of assets may be just as high or higher than just paying money alone for a reliever.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Dodgers just designated brian Wilson. Would love the beard on the jays!! For $9.5M, no way. Unless Dodgers take on most of his salary he's too much of a risk and Jays have better options.

The Dodgers are still on the hook for 9.5 M minus whatever his new team pays him which will likely be the minimum. Of course, if the Dodgers were willing to take a bath on all that money, he must be done like dinner.

Still not a bad deal, Joyce is Adam Lind, whom I'll miss.

As I said in the Around baseball. I'm torn by the deal just because it is fair. I want the Rays to win every deal outright. They are a better team (once McGee gets back healthy anyway)

tpurewal97 Verified Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 @Ken_Rosenthal · 3h 3 hours ago #Dodgers aren’t done. Per sources, talking to teams about Brandon League, willing to pay almost half of his $7.5M salary as part of deal. @Ken_Rosenthal · 2h 2 hours ago By making League, say, a $4M reliever, #Dodgers enhance his trade value. Motte got $4.5M as FA. League 2.57 ERA, 3.37 FIP in ‘14.
tpurewal97 Verified Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Also would love for the Jays to sign Kris Medlen as a 5th starter , low risk high reward time of signing . If Medlen returns to previous form , he would be a steal and would definetly make this rotation that much better , this also gives Sanchez another year in AAA and the first call up in case of an injury.

Medlen likely won't be ready to start the season, possibly before the ASB though. Would be a decent pickup, but tough to count on the guy after a second Tommy John... We'd need another starter for at least a few months.
Key22 Verified Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I suppose Delabar makes a lot of sense - I mean paying $3million for a free agent who had a terrible year but is a lightning in a bottle due to previous greatness is risky - and few have the upside in terms of filthy stuff that Delabar exhibited and is near league minimum. If that guy bounces back to his best then the guys is bloody sick. Fingers crossed! Wilton Lopez 2012 shows up and it's not as horrible as it could be. Fingers crossed. This team unfortunately has a LOT of fingers crossed - probably why we have three catchers.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Delabar has four years of control left and was a very good reliever prior to 2014. He makes next to nothing next season. I'm not sure why he can't be a pen option. Drabek is another one with four years of control left and can be pretty much filed under "failed starter" now, so give him a chance as well. I know that's hoping for a lot of good things to happen, but they are reasonable gambles to take.
LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Is this suggesting he wasn't on it last year? Yes, I don't think he's been on it since before he started playing professionally again.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Yes, I don't think he's been on it since before he started playing professionally again. My understanding is that last off season he eased back on it, the year before he was on it fully. It sounds like he was worn out early in the year or his muscles couldn't catch up to where they needed to be.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Yes, I don't think he's been on it since before he started playing professionally again. I seem to remember videos of him and Cecil doing it together....so he must have been doing some of that training after coming to the Jays. I had thought it was the reason behind his success in 2013. Perhaps I was just fooled by the media and TV once again...

Never read the comments: "Think bigger than just Chapman (this year & next year arg player control) Add in Cueto....? (10mil/1 yr) Add in Phillips...? (39mil/3 yr) If we could get 2 or all 3 of these guys in a trade, and enjoy them for an entire season instead of just at the trade deadline - WOW! Trade: Navaro, Osuna, Hoffman, Urena If we could get Votto involved.... ? (211mil/9 yr) lets add Norris+Pompey+Nay to the offer." Don't let your children drink gasoline, folks.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Interesting. That article says the Jays have 20 million remaining after arbitration salaries are paid out to eligible players. You can do a lot with $20 mill. And if the payroll goes up to $150 mill as some have speculated, that's $30 mill left to spend.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Any interest in Paplebon if the Phillies paid say half of his remaining salary?
