Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 The DBacks have made stupid trades over the last two years. AA has been a true ninja this offseason, so if this is like the AA who went out and got guys like Morrow, Rasmus, Escobar when they were undervalued, then Delgado fits the bill. I would love for this to happen.
READERsince2006 Verified Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 pennington for navarro works, makes 3.? million switch hitter stop gap for travis then backs up 2b, ss. free agent next year maybe give them iztures too lol
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Delgado pitched a lot better in relief last season (61.1 IP, 46 H, 28 BB, 78 K, 5 HR). A young reliever with four more years of control and potential to be a high leverage reliever to pair with Cecil would be a great get for Navarro. Not sure the D-Backs would do it, but AA's been doing some crazy things in the past month, so who knows.

JaysRap Verified Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Jays won't get Miley for Navarro Totally agree, which is why maybe it's a multi player deal - To TOR: INF Aaron Hill ($12M 2015, $12M 2016) LHP Wade Miley ($0.5235M 2015) RHP Brad Ziegler ($5M 2015, $5.5M Club Option 2016/$1M Buyout) C Tuffy Gosewisch ($0.5M 2015) To ARZ: RHP RA Dickey ($12M 2015, $12M 2016 Club Option/$1M Buyout) C Dioner Navarro ($5M 2015) C Josh Thole ($1.75 2015) We really shouldn't have to add a pitching prospect considering we're taking on $12M of Aaron Hill's guaranteed salary for 2016 but the DBacks might insist. EDIT: Maybe we could substitute Ziegler as suggested Randall Delgado ($0.51M 2015) or Evan Marshall but now it's gonna cost us more.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 He wasn't really good in 2013, he was just okay. He will be 33 going into next season and he didn't fair well as a Blue Jays in his final time here. And he's had a negative UZR the last 3 seasons, that's likely only going to get worse. Not a risk I'd take. only negative the last 2 years. Hill always played good defense. His defense even at this age is pretty close to a league average 2nd baseman. You're gambling on his bat bouncing back. I would flip Navarro for hill if Arizona kicked in 6 mil as well.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 White Sox truly only have Flowers now (Nieto, Brantly behind him). White Sox love ex Cubs. White sox just signed a reliever. AA has Kenny right below Mr. Greek on the speed dial. I await the eminent. Navarro for Javy Guerra or Micah Johnson (AA just said he wants speed...how about 70 speed).

Carlos Sanchez, 2. Nothing. Really, all of their relief arms outside of the 2 they just acquired are pretty bad/mediocre...

Really, all of their relief arms outside of the 2 they just acquired are pretty bad/mediocre... oh yeah...although I see him as more of a pinch runner than a 2B (and I'm a Johnson owner) As for my Guerra thought, I'm still not a believer in the Jays FO assessment skills just because they made some good moves. So I still stand behind them talking to the White Sox about Navarro

Navarro's 2015 salary is not far off from the going rate for middle relievers.

FFS. Quit wasting time. I don't understand how they could be so decisive about Lind and then waste time with this. Act while you have a taker and still have multiple options for spending the money.

Lol I think the guy who is in that position knows that if he has multiple teams wanting to take him for nothing then he has leverage to wait... Perfectly reasonable to wait a few weeks to see if you can get a team to bite and give up something decent. If you can't then you trade him for the best you can get.

Act while you have a taker and still have multiple options for spending the money. I'm likely wrong but I just don't see teams valuing Navarro in the 5 mil range. Not like his defensive woes aren't well known in baseball. If AA can get a salary dump type deal then I do it but maybe AA feels his bench bat and back up role is worth 5 mil and he feels he has enough money left to fill the bull pen. Is the plan that Martin catches Dickey and Navarro backs up that bad?

GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 WTF is going on this year, we are regressing back to the point of having stupid GM's that are all about RBI's and HR's and Relievers being big money commodities.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Not many thought Happ would fetch Saunders either. I actually think AA had that deal set up since awhile back. I hope the same applies to Navarro and AA knows he could deal him when he wants.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Isn't that tampering since Navarro is under contract?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Isn't that tampering since Navarro is under contract? It's not tampering to say you might be interested in a trade. Tampering is when you reveal your intention to sign a FA before he becomes ilegible. That could torpedoe negotiations between the player and his current team and essentially violate their exclusive negotiation window.
