Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 According to sources, Max Scherzer is working on completing a 7 year, 185 million dollar contract with the New York Yankees. http://www.fantasyalarm.com/playerupdate/307098/Max%20Scherzer-P/
JaysJays07 Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 The New York needs to find someone else to pay 26+ mil a year to. This should fill that void.
wardhenke1 Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Holy s***. $26.5m for 7 years. Better hope Scherzer doesn't break down by 34-35.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 AA better still not be at the buffet. Lester and Shields will likely be signing soon with Scherzer the first chip to fall.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I don't like this. Scherzer doesn't seem like a guy who's going to pitch well when he loses his velo.

awsomest Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I'm not going to say this is a good thing for they jays but at 26 per? I mean it takes them over the luxury tax and they have so many holes? It adds like 4 wins and then you take away headley and mccarthy and lose them all? I don't get it

Thought it would be a deal that was closer to 200M but it's still a lot of money

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Seems like a ton of money for a team that could better spend it elsewhere. McCcarthy and Headley would be close to the same AAV for less years and you don't have to give up a draft pick while adressing 2 positions.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Author Posted November 29, 2014 Source: Scherzer rejected 7/180 M deal from Tigers in 2013 or 2014 The Detroit Tigers have made a substantial, long-term contract extension offer to Max Scherzer that would have placed him among the highest paid pitchers in baseball, and the offer was rejected. As we have reiterated, it has been the organization's intent to extend Max's contract and keep him in a Tigers uniform well beyond the 2014 season. While this offer would have accomplished that, the ballclub's focus remains on the start of the upcoming season, and competing for a World Championship. Moving forward there will be no further in-season negotiation and the organization will refrain from commenting on this matter.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 This division is pretty nuts. so far jays have only upgraded at C and 3rd. they still haven't filled any of the holes that still exist even if people are enamored with the sparkly new toys.
43211234 Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 This division is pretty nuts. For all the talk of how weak the AL East was last year, guess which division had the most combined wins? Still the toughest division in baseball.

Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 7/185 I actually don't hate. Not great. But definitely not terrible.

Upgrades are upgrades no matter what holes you have.

How do you not understand they didn't just replace two guys, they upgraded significantly

I agree, we were the 5th worst team in the Majors when it comes to pitching. We NEED Shields imo

It's not only about addressing holes, improving the roster in any way possible should be the objective and AA has accomplished that thus far. Sure we have holes, but AA has done a fine job this winter and there is no reason to think he is anywhere near done.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Ang, there's no reputable source for this. Not thread-worthy.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 LOL, 7th best starter WAR. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=sta&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2014&month=0&season1=2014&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 I was looking at the xFIP totals for the Majors across the board http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2014&month=0&season1=2014&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=17,d
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 1. Navarro 2. Not league adjusted. So then fWAR takes care of pitch framing and adjusting the league?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 There's no word on MLBTR about this. Not sure if it's legit.
Governator Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I don't doubt that they've made an offer but take it with a grain of salt until a legitimate source confirms they are finalizing an actual deal.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Isn't this the guy that broke a bunch of signings earlier in the offseason?
