Spoonovic Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Trades Navarro to Texas for bullpen help.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Trades Navarro for a RP, signs Andrew Miller, and re-signs Melky. Travis starts the season as the 2B with Pompey in CF.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Who's still available that plays 2B?
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Who's still available that plays 2B? Asdrubal Cabrera.
Hipfan Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Well the Jays absolutely need to get a second basemen. I think they could content with Pompey/Pillar in CF but there is still a glaring hole at 2B with no internal options to fill it. I wonder if there is another trade to be had; the winter meetings should be exciting! Chase Utley, anyone?...
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Buy a dickey get a thole for free? Will someone bite?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 If rumors are true about the Dodgers willing to eat money for someone to take Ethier (say Romero + 10M), I could see that being a decent fit. He'd basically cost the same as what we offered Melky, and probably be worth roughly the same (little less bat, little more defense).
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I would say he signs Cabrera next. 3/40
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Norris, Travis, Dwight Smith Jr to the Reds for Votto
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 In all seriousness, id say Melky signs for 3 yrs 42 million

Maine Jays Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 A man can dream Well if I'm dreaming: Lester six years, $156M Miller four years, $32M Robertson four years, $50M Nick M. three years, $36M Utley for Romero (you said dreaming, and this is the biggest dream of all)
Caper Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 For all the flack AA gets.... He has one talent that seems to distinguish himself from most other GM's. He seems to be the most persistent, dogged gm out there.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 A left handed bat to fit somewhere in the middle of the lineup ...
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Author Posted November 29, 2014 I'm not so sure there is money available for big free agent signings. Back loading Martin and targeting JD rather then Panda suggests otherwise. AA said they will be creative with the budget and so far that is what we are seeing. Pompey is not going to be the only league min on the field, IMO. But if those other league min guys are Travis and someone like Profar (ok maybe not), gotta be OK with that. Does Dickey, Thole, Osuna, DSJ get Profar? Have no idea what it would take. He's not yet 22 and the talent is undeniable. Health another ?.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Right now is not the right time to trade Dickey. When you have an offensive Juggernaut like this, then you need to offset with consistent pitching. I am not big on our rotation but it is consistent, with potential of being above average. Bullpen is the right course of action here. No point in speculating but suffice to say AA is having a dream offseason. So far he has acquired a Future 2B, best catcher on the market, and arguably the best overall 3B in the majors. Now its time to solidify and not get more power. Instead focus on depth and healthy all around solid options. The bullpen requires work though.

Persistence = 1.0WAR

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 AA's next move and much deserved is to sleep in, turn off his phone and hit the best all you can eat greek buffet in the city. Then he's going to resign melky.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Dickey could be the next dude gone, but not for the trade you suggested lol I strongly doubt Dickey is traded Happ or Estrada, probably

Blitz Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I really, really think this is the time to try to get Justin Morneau out of COL. The Rockies are in a weird place and are listening on Tulo and others... Would some combo of Navarro/Happ + Smoak/Valencia (for 1B depth in COL) + a middling prospect get it done? JM only makes $7.5 this yr, which conveniently is the same as Happ, and IMO his LH bat and ability to play defense at 1B put us over the bump... thoughts?

TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I will go out on a limb, believe that bobcat actually knows something here, and predict that the Jays outbid the Cubs and Bosox for Lester. That will facilitate a Dickey (and his blanket, Thole) trade, clearing his salary, if nothing else.
Blitz Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Cargo's gotta be the target if it's COL At $16MM, $17MM and $20MM respectively over the next 3yrs??? I like CarGo too, but I just cant see AA going there - not to mention the price tag attached is going be substantially higher.

You can't just throw a bunch of spare parts at a team and get something in return. We could get Morneau, and he'd likely be an upgrade for the team, but we're not getting him for nothing. AA did just pull off a Jeebus trade though, so who the f*** knows...
