I think I said at the time that I thought the Dickey trade could go down as the worst Jays transaction ever. While I had much higher expectations of d'Arnaud at that point, it can still become that. Even if the trade had completely worked out for the Jays, I never would have been fully satisfied, due to the disdain I have for Dickey. Even though he hasn't been terrible over the past couple of seasons, I've always loathed him, and I still do. I hate his face so much, I hate the sad-donkey expression he gets everytime he gives up a home run, I hate his try-hard use of big words, I hate his soft creepy voice, I hate his rosy pink cheeks, I hate his disheveled mullet, I hate Thole, I hate the knuckleball, I hate EVERYTHING about RA Dickey. Even if he pitched a 4-win season this year, I'd want them to decline his option, just because I don't want to see him anymore. His presence sickens me.

You should be giving that hate to AA. Dickey never said "Trade DA and Thor to the Mets or else I won't go!". It was AA, Beast, whom ever else you want to blame in management for that. Dickey is innocent on what was given up for him.

You are absolutely right! Who the f*** cares about the fact that our Ninja GM saw him as an elite pitcher who will allow us to put a "contending team together for an extended run". Who cares about any of that s***.. This is all on Dickey and his donkey looking face and his rosy pink cheeks! f*** him!

Dickey throws perfect game in game 7 of the world series in a 1-0 win where RA hits a solo shot in the 9th. Twisted Logic now loves Donkeys - book it. :P

Does the Donaldson trade make up for the dickey trade

It probably makes up for everything bad you or anyone else ever said about AA.

The goal is to create an extended window of contending, winning, and playoffs. So no move can be viewed in isolation.

God knows... Lawrie and Gravemen could turn it around... Barretto could come quick. My god this would not surprise me.

2017

Oakland 94 wins, Lawrie .290 18 80, Barretto .290 7 67 (ROY contender), Gravemen 15-11 3.10 -- combined 10 WAR

Toronto 62 wins, Donaldson .290 18 54 traded at deadline to Cards, .330 19 45 for Cards

Donaldson, praise the lord I am with a real team and will experience victory.

Kenny Williams - It is time to rebuild, the young playered acquired for Donaldson will lead us to Victory in 2022!!!

Only 90 wins will make up for that. Otherwise Donaldson is a tool for the new GM to get prospects... and as we saw from the Haladay trade their is no guarentee.

That's exactly what bringing Donaldson in did. He gives the Jays a centerpiece to build around.

Donaldson will not be used as a tool to get prospects.

Baseless projections like that on Lawrie, Barretto and Graveman make me laugh. But since BB traded for them they must be good.

He wasn't actually projecting that that would happen

Bautista 2010-2014, Halladay 2002-2009, as good of centerpieces as you could ask for

Jays won nothing

Donaldson could just end pushing the window back to 2027...

Dum Beeston replacement - We will build around Donaldson and the young pitchers, we cannot waste his prime, I offer Alford, I offer Rowdie, I offer Hoffman, I offer Boyd, I offer Jansen, and in return I must have veteran presence to compliment Donaldson. This time we will be victorious!

(Freak injury to Hutch and/or Stroman (again) ), Norris and Sanchez never get any control -- 4 years pass - it still is all the same and now people approaching 35 have no memory of a Jays playoff team.

I really don't care if Lawrie can become good.

Lawrie is not performing right now but he's still young enough and talented enough to reach his potential. And even at his best, he can't even touch Donaldson offensively. Defensively, Lawrie is superior to Donaldson (the fact that he can throw at least to me puts him above Donaldson) but that is not enough to mask the offensive gap between the two.

And Donaldson has years of control.

Barreto hurts, yes, but he was years away and we can always replace guys like that every year.

Graveman and Nolin are nice but they are depth pieces. We have way more pitching prospects that are more talented than them.

Donaldson has great range, great fielding, strong arm, terrible accuracy

Lawrie has great range, great fielding, strong arm, strong accuracy

That's enough to make him superior

And just cause defensive war will probably list him as better than Lawrie doesn't mean much to me. Remember when WAR was showing Lawrie as a supergod? There are flaws in every metric, and I think having all the facets of defensive ability lumped up into a single metric masks some flaws.

If I had to choose between Donaldson's defense and Lawrie's defense, I'll always take Lawrie, even if the metric shows him higher.

Lawrie also has a pea sized brain and will make mental errors from time to time

they all do. Remember Donaldson has a derp a few days ago too.

The only way to not waste Donaldson's prime is to trade Bautista, Edwin, and Reyes for players that are younger, cheaper, and can help over the next 5 years. Not sure which teams would trade MLB ready young players away at this point but the best way to ensure wasting Donaldson's prime is either by letting Bautista and EE go for nothing or trading them for prospects that are years away.

Trade Reyes? Good luck with that. More like get someone to eat as much of his salary as we can.

I don't think AA can pull off a Vernon Wells Version 2.0 with Reyes.

Just wait for the deadline. Someone will bite.

Any team out there with a huge payroll and weak at SS?

As long as the Padres are still run by that dude who thinks Wil Myers is a CF, there's a chance.

Jose Reyes + $5MM to Washington for Ian Desmond.

there's no way they do that

The most likely destination in a Reyes trade is Seatle, thats assuming Jack Z is still retarded though. Reyes+Cash for Brad Miller would be pretty sweet. T

Reyes and half his salary for Miller and Montero would work for me. Even eating half his salary saves the Jays $24m over the next two years which can be used elsewhere.
