I am still in shock by this. Lawrie is hurt all the time, but even when healthy I do not think he is Donaldson's caliber. I mean Donaldson is MVP Caliber. WTF did this just happen. I am shocked shocked shocked

AA is back. Ninja is back.

There is something up here. Who trades an MVP Caliber player in his prime.

Lol good luck with Brett Injury Lawrie. Only a fool casual fan would be against this. We gave up one good prospect really, but wow, I mean wow.

Donaldson posted 14 WAR in the last two years. WOW

Can't believe this trade, what an incredible trade! I like Lawrie but the injury concerns are pretty big, and swapping him for Donaldson while not giving up Sanchez/Norris or any of their other top prospects is sweet. Maybe Lawrie turns out to be a 4-5 WAR player, and Nolin and Graveman become mid rotation starters, but that's worth it for an MVP caliber player.

Why would the As give up Donaldson, Maybe something aint right here

Apparently they are very high on the prospects we gave them. They must not mind Lawrie as well

Oakland's ownership is cheap and they're trying to salt the Earth so they can move out of the Bay Area.

Cheap or savy? Sure they have salary constraints but they have put up money from time to time.m the A's are a solid org.

The "what's up with Donaldson" is that he was criticizing ownership for being cheapskates back in October. They must have put the screws to Beane and this was the best deal he could come up with. Solid win for the Jays, don't get me wrong but I can see his point as Lawrie has the potential to immediately and cheaply replace most of Donaldson's upside, a top SS prospect after trading away their own and 2 decent pitching prospects. He couldn't have done better.

Pitching depth took a hit.

Wondering what our starting rotation will look like next year.

To begin the season, assuming everyone is healthy:

1. Dickey

2. Bhuerle

3. Hutch

4. Stroman

5. Happ

6. Sanchez

7. Norris

Not bad, good depth. I am sure we would all love to have a true "Ace" at the top of the rotation. But those guys are rare.

This may be a dumb question, but do Urena and/or Lugo have anywhere close to the potential Barreto does? I know Barreto is the best of the three, but Urena was the one considered most likely to stick at short, correct?

Jason Parks had a good interview earlier this season on a blue jays prospects/vancouver canadians blog called YourVanCs.

http://yourvancs.com/your-van-cs-weekly-episode-3/

The whole interview with Parks is a great listen but he talks specifically about those three shortstops you mentioned around the 1:04:00 mark. He really raves about Urena's defence saying: "That guy has surpassed a lot of major leaguers as far as what he can do with the leather."

He was also really high on Lugo.

Except that Stroman is our #1 at this point. Not an ace but certainly our best SP.

Stroman is not the #4 for this team...

The top 5 wasnt meant to be in a "best to worst". But more so what Gibby would likely make the rotation look like. I should have clarified that.

And yes I am aware that there is no chance Dickey and Bhuerle will be back to back in the rotation but it is getting late and I am tired!
