#Dodgers are signing Hector Olivera to a six-year, $62.5M deal, as @JesseSanchezMLB reported first.

What are the Dodgers doing?

Leveraging their financial muscle. If you have more money than anybody else than money is also worth less to you than to anybody else. That's your edge so you might as well use it.

or up

A.J. Preller. He's the same guy that did some shady things with the Rangers, and did some shady things with the Kemp deal. Now continuing his shady ways with Olivera.

Spending money to fill areas of needs, unlike another team we know of.

Seems like they're spending money to acquire talent, regardless of position. Like what the Red Sox have done. Buy as many talent as you can, figure out the rest later.

Wow. This is a lot of money for Friedman.

He's never had money before, no need for him to be frugal any more. If he's willing to pay this, suddenly I like Olivera a lot more though.

This is a good long-term sign by the Dodgers.

Both Kendrick and Rollins will be FA.

Guerrero doesn't look like he's going to be a starter and is questionable on defense. Uribe is Uribe.

Uribe is Uribe.

I'm not sure what you're implying, but Uribe has racked up 8.6 WAR over the last two seasons. He's a very underrated player.

I like how the Dodgers are as far away from Toronto as possible. Different league, different coast.

Go Dodgers!

UPDATE (2:40 pm E.T.): If Hector Olivera needs Tommy John surgery, there will be an extra year and $1 million added to Olivera's contract, according to an industry source. It is currently unclear whether or not he'll need Tommy John surgery, but one source says "he does have something" wrong within his elbow.

Interesting. Dodgers probably are assuming that he needs surgery, which explains this signing in light of the 2015 roster having 2B and 3B already plugged.

This is true - but it's still very hard to comprehend.....I total get what HERPDERP is saying....then again, I used to be a huge White Sox fan back in the day and he may have scarred me for life. I will always bet on Uribe falling back to earth and being well below average as a starting 3rd baseman.

If you have the most money and you're not driving up the market, you're doing it wrong.

Uribe's defense is a given. He's pretty good.

Offensively, though?

For the majority of his career he's been putrid, below replacement level.

Somehow, in the past two seasons he's hit extremely well. Last season his babip was up over .360.

I'm not sure if Uribe is someone you can gamble with a Headley like contract at his age.

that and a never ending budget. With the 28 mil signing bonus and the 10s of million they are paying for players to play on other teams this year their payroll is around 300 mil. That's insane. With Ryu down and Anderson due to break down any day now they could actually might not be a lock to make the post season and they're spending 80 or 90 mil more than the Yankees without factoring in the luxury tax.
