I should just call into the show and ask is Morrow worth having Valencia and Pillar as fulltime players next year? Morrow is a great buy low candadite but not for the Blue Jays next season. SP is one of the areas they have depth and need to use all their money in finding a LF and 2nd baseman.

Part of the reason Morrow keeps getting hurt is because of his Diabetes it weakens the body, including recovery and the immune system. Thats why injuries which seem just freaky, are not that unusual for Morrow as he just doesn't heal like other players
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Author Posted September 9, 2014 I was at the game tonight. Saw some guy with a Corey Patterson jersey. How does that happen? My best bet is that their last name is Patterson and they thought it would be cheaper to buy that jersey than to get it customized. Or he could be an idiot who bought a Corey Patterson jersey.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 He really neglecting building the farm system but he did a really solid job in acquiring major league talent. He also was able to sign free agents and didnt come out with the 20 excuses as to why he couldnt bring anyone over Cause he was willing to pay free agents their actual market value AA won't sign one unless they're despaired and going cheap
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Pedro Martinez but like 27x better GOAT
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Adam Sandler is actually the sickest guy, I've played basketball with him like 4 times and he's a ton of fun to be around
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 A Stieb comp, slow down man??? Statistically he's much closer to the young post meltdown Roy Halladay... Steib was raw. Walked more, struck out less. Pitched a shitload of innings as a young guy. He reminds me of Halladay a lot actually. Last night was like classic Roy Halladay, I mean I checked my phone at 8:30 and they were in the 7th. 93 pitch complete game? Works quick, efficient. That was what made Halladay Halladay. 250 innings with minimal effort. Stroman 2014 looks a lot like Halladay 2001. I'd imagine lots of guys have good half seasons. So I'm not getting ahead of myself. Obviously physically Halladay and Stroman couldn't be more different.

I can kind of see the resemblance, I was thinking halladay with the way his pitches were moving in multiple directions last night.
BTS Community Moderator Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 lmao at GD just casually mentioning that he plays hoops with Adam Sandler from time to time.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 That's more a product of the eras they pitch in than anything. Younger folks, or folks tied up in current saber analysis/thoughts don't realize that their was comparatively less of a focus on Ks and BB rates back in Stieb's day. In 1985, the 10th best K/9 in MLB was 6.8. This year, it's 9.4. BB rates were more comparable, but there wasn't the emphasis on it. Part of the reason there weren't so many injuries and they were able to log more innings per season Do you have any data on average pitches per pa of the two eras?
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 lmao at GD just casually mentioning that he plays hoops with Adam Sandler from time to time. He basically lives in Toronto now. Tons of people have played with him (including myself). Can also confirm he's a great guy.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 I'm sure someone else knows where a more comprehensive database is, but I can only find it going back to 1990, when the average P/PA was 3.63 ... 2013 it was 3.84 (approx the same so far this year). It's not just the number of pitches thrown, or pitches thrown per PA ... but the "quality" of pitches needed in order to add up to a K. More stressful on the arm to produce a swing and miss pitch (and all these pitch variations) than it is to get someone to weakly ground out. Yeah but just having the PA data would go a long way to explain why pitchers are less durable today. A lot of it (not necessarily all of it like you say) comes down to IP being a flawed metric for the comparison in the first place. Jim Palmer's innings are not the same as the innings pitchers pitch today. To compare the two and conclude that pitchers are less durable based solely on that comparison is a logical fallacy (one that's quite common amongst old school types). That doesn't mean they might not have a point but you'd have to dig deeper to make that point. The whole thing brings up an interesting debate about strategy. Pitch to contact is pretty much pooh-poohed these days which is fine but but the consequences of that shift in strategy don't seem to be fully assimilated and they should be.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Which part was a Simpsons joke? Moogy > Simpsons Didn't they do some episode on Homer winning a contest to golf with OJ? Actually, that might have been Family Guy (I dunno, I don't watch TV), in which case you should probably just delete your account.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 You're welcome! Sandler's gone now. But you'll always have those memories. And you were actually playing Peter Dinklage (also starring in Sandler's movie) in pickup b-ball, liar. wat @ all of this hbd adam sandler
