Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 People blaming Rogers for the front office's incompetence are idiots. Why should Rogers hand even more money to AA and Beeston when they have yet to prove that they'll spend it responsibly and build a consistent winner with it? They had their chance and blew it with the dumbass Marlins and Mets trades. What took you so long?

You're wrong about them "blowing it" with the Marlins and Mets trades. It's obvious there isn't cash to spend at this stage, or at a minimum it sure isn't easily accessible. However I'm not really sure I can blame them.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I was very unhappy that Rogers gave them zero money to upgrade the team in the offseason, especially with the whole Ervin Santana ********. I refuse to support a team and ownership that spends 5 BILLION dollars to put f***ing hockey on TV and yet won't give an extra cent to help this team make a push, after 20 years of being the worst franchise in Major League Baseball.

SparkyAnderson Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Not necessarily, there's a buzz in the city and everybody's talking about the Jays right now so there's a heightened awareness of the deadline situation. There's a hunger with the fans & media to make a move, if no move is made and we can't get over the hump against the contenders down the stretch (Bal, Det, Sea, NY) along with facing a tough Tampa team people will lament on this moment and how a tightwad Rogers dropped the ball. I think as long as this team is playing meaningful games in August and September most people will be pretty happy and even if they don't make the playoffs this year fans will come back if the team is winning in the following years. Think about how angry everyone was with last years team after the high expectations and yet now that the team is winning this year we are seeing a huge increase in viewers.
comeon sense Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Too bad we couldnt have traded Rasmus to Oakland for Cespedes. Honestly,so what,we couldnt make any deals because we didnt have the money. Is there major surprise us not doing anything. Baltimore is concerned about us,and our big boppers coming back. That means we are good enough to win now,we are a threat. It would have been real tough to make a good deal today, considering all the prospects the other teams would have wanted.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Lets gooooo Mariners!!!! Hope they pass the Jays for that final spot!!!!!
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Lets gooooo Mariners!!!! Hope they pass the Jays for that final spot!!!!! why?
comeon sense Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Mariners made some great moves today, but they wont see even a wildcard spot.At least they will give baltimore some tough games soon.
crmr Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I still don't think a reasonable deal such as this was available to the Jays, and I don't see who else they could have gotten. Maybe a decent RP, but I don't know what the rest of you expected them to do... I guess after they got Valencia they decided they didn't need Prado (probably an OK thought process)
crmr Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 why? You've been on this forum long enough to know people are always looking for a reason to hate on Rogers (who put up a very respectable $135m payroll)
jays76 Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 Any way you slice it, passing up on David Price because of the financial obligations hurts bad. Terminator has repeatedly stated it today, sell Price in the offseason if you don't want to take on the salary and then you recoup some assets. Assets that wouldn't even be that much because did you see what TB got!?! I'm nauseous...
prayforthejays Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Tired of this same old BS....Almost every other team in contention got better but the Jays
wardhenke1 Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 You've been on this forum long enough to know people are always looking for a reason to hate on Rogers (who put up a very respectable $135m payroll) $135m is a respectable payroll, but next year it goes to $97m. The following year it falls to $27m. We have not had one f***ing indication this entire season that this is not the direction the payroll is going in, other than the ridiculous sight of AA searching in the garbage for some hidden gem and the strident claims of some on here that this is all an illusion and we can spend more if we wanted too.

Zilch, nada, nothing. I'm not saying go out and get Price but are you telling me that we couldn't get a fifth starter improvement for f***ing Happ? You tell me we couldn't pick up a couple of mid relievers or one? f*** that s***. f*** AA, f*** Rodgers, f*** these pieces of s***. Great message to send the locker room and the fanbase *******s.

eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 What did you guys f***ing want them to do? Trade Sanchez or Norris? We don't have a ton of prospects in the upper levels that would fetch a lot of interest... Most of our good prospects are in A ball and it makes no sense to trade them now when their values will likely increase exponentially over the next few years. You can't just blindly criticize them for not making a move without giving actual suggestions. WTF did Rogers do wrong in this situation? They've committed enough money to field a winning club. If the prices were too high, they were too high. I'm actually quite relieved we didn't sell the farm for a rental.

There's no way you will ever convince me that towers was asking for Samchez or Stroman for Prado, but settled for a prospect literally 5 people have heard of out of the Yankees system, or that a decent pen arm would cost Stroman or Sanchez. Anyone expecting the blockbuster type trade is delusional, but those smaller low cost deals that would have still helped the team were also nowhere to be found. I find the argument of "well we don't know what other teams were offering or what they wanted so we better just assume AA did everything right" is a bit shortsighted.

Prado makes no sense with Lawrie due back soon. I also wouldn't want to commit 22M to a guy who appears to be on a serious decline. All we really needed was a mid-rotation starter. Sucks it didn't work out but it's time to move on.

And in no wAy I'm saying that missing out on Prado is the end of the world, but the were moves out there to be made whether it was Prado, or a decent pen arm that could have helped the Jays, where the excuse for not making could not have been "they wanted major league roster players back." When you see the returns that these other guys were going for, there's just no way it can be true unless very other GM in baseball just decides to ask AA to pay three times the value that they end up settling for.

I wish he was the Jays GM too. Ironically though he's been of the most active GM's over the past 2-3yrs, he probably would've got that Price deal done today..

Rogers is far from perfect, but $135 f***ing million should be enough to build a winner. It's AA's fault that he didn't spend the money wisely when he had the chance, period.
