Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2015 Author Posted March 25, 2015 Carpe diem In the business world, you should know when an asset reached its full potential, knowing this, you should take advantage. Sanchez is a great asset right now, but could be s*** in................. 3 months. Allow the kid reach his true ceiling in the minors. Rush/burn him in the rotation isn't smart at all.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2015 Author Posted March 25, 2015 No one is giving up on him..I just think his stock has fallen. But it's not because Sanchez has pitched terribly - it's the opposite. The other prospects on this team have shown a lot more development and stuff to the point that Sanchez is no longer untouchable. I'm a lot more excited about the Mexican and the Castro because they both have shown excellent stuff and control. Sanchez has good stuff. But it's not sexy. He has a high 90s fastball just like Castro and the Mexican, but unlike those two, Sanchez' stuff doesn't generate enough swinging strikes. And to make matters worse, Sanchez hasn't exactly improved on his control and command. A lack of control and command and stuff to K people out isn't encouraging. Swinging strikes are not the be-all-end-all, but they are extremely helpful for a pitcher that can generate the K when needed. And The Mexican goat they are especially important for relievers, who are often brought in for situations where a hold is required. Sanchez needs more development of his off-speed pitches and control. The Mexican nacho libre. The great thing is he's still young, so there is more than enough time for him to develop. But sticking him in the bullpen reduces the necessary reps and experiences that can help him if he were in the Buffalo rotation. Stop using denigrating qualifiers for my pueblo. Gracias, y que viva Mexico!!
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 so the herd believes Estrada and Hendricks are "better" options. I'm glad I'm not part of the herd. I'm curious as to why you think he has more trade value than actual future value? You're assuming a professional GM can't evaluate his future value and will overpay for him. Tell us more about how Sanchez is a better option than Estrada in 2015? There's this assumption that anyone who doesn't think Sanchez can contribute to the rotation have this personal vendetta against him.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 for the love of god, can we send aaron sanchez to the minors and start Liam Hendricks. We can't lose Liam Hendricks!

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 When is it easier to sneak a player though waivers end of camp or two weeks in?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 When is it easier to sneak a player though waivers end of camp or two weeks in? I think you have good chances either way. At the end of camp, teams are facing roster crunches of their own. Two weeks in and it's early to give up on whoever you gave a chance to.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 *bookmarks page* yeah....sides are lining up. I've always said he could be anywhere from poor to very good or somewhere in between, but I'd rather go with someone with a higher upside. Others have basically said, he could be good, but there's a 95% chance he won't be good based on their superior understanding of the game of baseball. Time will tell if you baseball guru's are smarter than the professionals being paid actually money who are going to put Sanchez in the rotation.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 I give up on this board It's either here, the old mlb forums or Stoeten's comments section

BTS Community Moderator Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Now that I think about it, recent guys who the forum had a consensus "plz don't do this" opinion about: Thames, JPA, Goins, Vizquel, Sierra, Thole DeRosa is one of the only players I can think of that we didn't want, and who actually played well.

You can literally say this for the entire world's population. If you have a firm stance on Sanchez this year, take it either way. I believe he's best served starting games in Buffalo rather than in TO. I believe Estrada will outperform Sanchez. Like I said earlier until he makes real life adjustments over a larger period of time, I'll continue to be bearish on him.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Estrada, imo. Estrada is a 4 million dollar decision. That makes all the difference IMO.

The decision to make Sanchez a starter stems from conversations pete walker, pat hentgen, the catchers, perhaps other scouts, gibby and AA. Bare in mind that these people have actually watched Sanchez all throughout camp..lol. Collectively the coaches feel the best option is for him to be a starter. You feel you are smarter than that collective without having hardly seen the kid. Time will tell how smart you and your merry band of men truly are.

What BTS says may seem cocky but it's not just arrogance, it's also based on observation of situations such as the Eric Thames scenario and the Moises Sierra scenario.

I trust in the blue jays coaches over the a bunch of know it all nerd. I believe Sanchez will be better than Estrada. I think Estrada is a 4.5 ERA guy...upside on him might be a 4 ERA. I fell Sanchez can do better

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 the consensus is not always right... everyone wanted EE drawn and quartered, and expected Morrow to be the staff ace as many examples of the consensus being right there are examples of the consensus being wrong....

In Min Twins or SL Cards Sanchez would be in minor league camp (Martinez '14, Meyer' 14)

BTS Community Moderator Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 And how many posters pumped the tires of Brandon Morrow? Josh Thole? Colby Rasmus? Etc. We are wrong about alot of things. Of course. Just less wrong than the Jays FO has tended to be when it comes rounding out the 25 man roster.

We were also sure AA would blow what little budget he had on BP arms this off season. We also never thought the team would sign Martin and/or trade for Donaldson. We also thought the franchise would be in really bad shape by this season. Wrong, wrong wrong. I fully admit that I picked the 2013 team to win 90 games.

How about Bautista, EE? How about giving Stroman a shot before most thought they should. Goins was given a shot because there was nothing much better behind him, and he proved he could even worse than the crap that was behind him. Thames was given a shot when Snider clearly wasn't ready and maybe his time in the minors actually benefited him! Moises was never anything more than a 4th outfielder and he's had a decent spring for KC so far...lol.
