This whole place has been filled with negativity lately, thought a change of pace would be nice. The Jays are in first place which most if not all of us didn't think would happen by this point in the season. While this latest slide has been s*****, this team still remains atop the division. We have swept the A's, Tigers, Red Sox, and Rays, while only being swept once up to this point, which is quite nice.

Hutch has recovered from his injury and has emerged as a promising young arm that looks to be a potential top of the rotation contributor at minimal cost. Stroman finally got his chance and has looked promising as well and provides a solid young duo alongside Hutch for our rotation for the next several years. Buehrle is more than earning his salary which many thought was an albatross of a contract and has now become an easily moveable asset should AA want to make some bold moves in the off season. We still have Sanchez and Norris is emerging strong through the system, not to mention Nolin who looks like he could be another cheap young option (back end).

Assuming AA doesn't make any trades (doubtful), this team has a young core of SP to transition into the next phase after many of our larger contracts begin to expire. The Jays had a great draft and the system looks really strong at the lower levels and should start moving up the rankings over the next year or so.

I can go on, but the point of this thread is to quit being so negative and look at some of the positives. This team is in contention, we have a few nice young pieces, some expiring contracts and a farm that will rise again. Let's be positive going into tonight's game, rather than being defeatist losers.

Even with the recent losses this team is still in a good position to have a shot at the division. Pitching has been good and the bats will heat up again,we just need to keep the faith and believe in this team. It's been a fun year so far and I hope to keep seeing meaningful games throughout the summer. Go Jays!

Agreed. I also see the future a lot brighter than some others, especially with a lot of payroll coming off the books over the next few years.

Assuming no trades are made or serious injuries, the rotation might look something like this in 2016:

Hutchison

Stroman

Norris

Sanchez

And chances are one of the two old fogies will still be producing as a solid #3-4. If there is a trade involving one or two of those four guys, it'll be for a piece that makes the Jays contend today.

There will be a ton of payroll flexibility. If Bautista is still productive, he'll probably come back on a similar annual average salary. EE's production will be the only challenge to fill at his salary, but if we take Romero off the books and apply that to EE or a player of similar production, that should be doable. Barreto's not likely to be ready by 2016, but he will be close and may be the teams #1 prospect by then, ready to take over Reyes' huge cost in 2017-18. If Lawrie doesn't run into a brick wall (literally, not figuratively) he should still be around, at increased cost. The question marks will be the OF and 2B, and that can be filled with the increased payroll flexibility.

Well Gose will be ready to take over in CF next season at league minimum. Even if the bat never gets to where we hope, the defence alone will make him an excellent asset.

Because this is the positivity thread, I will agree with you 100% ;)

I think if you had asked any Jays fan if they'd take being 1.5 games up and leading the division on June 20th, it would be a unanimous yes. Hutch and Stroman look as if they have the make up of true 2/3 guys. Norris is a bit away, but he's on the right track. Sanchez is a huge ? but at least the upside is there, and we aren't solely relying on him to be our only impact pitcher coming through the system in a couple of years. Add in Hoffman, and the rotation looks like it could be young, cheap and reliable in the next 3-4 years.

As frustrating as this team has been this month, its been a fun ride so far in 2014. Hopefully we can play some meaningful games towards the end of the year. I think everyone here would be pleased with that. Here's hoping we can take this series against the Reds. Go Jays!

Brett lawrie is back playing where he should be

True, but I don't mind him at 2B if we get a legit 3B.

We will still be first in the AL after tonight. Only 0.5 games but a lead nonetheless.

Kind of the problem with Yankees and O's playing each other. Unless the Jays win every game they lose ground.

True, but at least both can't gain at the same time and a win ensures they gain on one. Works both ways.

Honest question...when are you guys going to panic, if ever?

When they lose the division lead I will legitimately panic.

People need to understand this is baseball. Anyone who has watched this game long enough knows stretches like this happen. It's a long season for a reason. If this team is good enough they will bounce back. Going day to day in this sport is silly. Lets see how they finish the month and what they do heading into the all star break.

How long have you watched this game? Honest question. All my friends who have followed this sport for years don't seem bothered one bit, but the novice fans are flipping their lids.

I've watched this game since the Shawn Green Days. Maybe you're not as passionate for the Jays as I'am, but when they lose I get bummed out. When they lose s***** games, I get pissed off. And when they play sloppy like they have in the past 2 weeks, I start to question if the weakness isn't temporary.

As I said before, I'd be content if we lost 10 games in a row, and in all those 10 games we played quality baseball. But all our losses have been pretty pathetic baseball.

Sorry to step into the positivity thread with negativity. I'll bow out. Maybe we should have a thread for something inbetween

Really though, when is there ever anything in between? The majority of fans will be either super positive or super negative no matter what happens.

Agreed, let's just enjoy the ride, and if things get too depressing like they have in past years, just focus on enjoying baseball in general.
