Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 How about Jimmy Rollins, owe about 6 million dollars the rest of the way. Still an above average defensive and offensive shortstop, move Reyes to second. I would love to know what Ruben Amaro wants for him.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Crazy idea of the day: Trade RA Dickey and Josh Thole to the Rangers for Adrian Beltre They need pitching and catching help and they love Dickey We roll the dice with young starters, though also probably make a second trade for a veteran starter to finish the year with They roll the dice with a young third baseman ---------------------------------------------------- Such a terrible idea that it might just work
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 2:10 [ Comment From Guest] would Norris/Sanchez get you a sniff of Price/Zobrist rental??? 2:10 Steve Adams: If you're getting BOTH Price and Zobrist, you'd need more than that. Decent start though.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 This thread needs a bump. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/06/rangers-assessing-trade-value-of-core-type-players.htmlv JUNE 25: Jon Heyman of CBS Sports hears from rival GMs and executives around the game that the Rangers will listen to trade proposals for anyone. Beltre and Darvish, however, are “on another level” from the rest of the team, and executives that have spoken to Heyman can’t envision either being traded. One big reason for that reluctance is that the Rangers expect to be good next year when Prince Fielder, Derek Holland, Jurickson Profar, Martin Perez and others have returned to health. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/06/dbacks-preparing-to-sell-mccarthy-drawing-interest.html Though his ERA and win-loss record aren’t much to look at (5.38 and 1-10), Diamondbacks right-hander Brandon McCarthy is drawing trade interest, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (Twitter links). A free agent at season’s end, McCarthy has about $4.72MM remaining on this year’s $9MM salary — the second year of a two-year, $15.5MM pact he inked in the 2012-13 offseason. Rosenthal notes that Arizona is likely to make multiple trades before this year’s deadline.

Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 KLaw chat today Andrew (Toronto) "You never make a major trade within your own division." Real front office principle, or just analyst/fan chatter? Klaw (1:23 PM) Some execs feel that way, but it's totally irrational. Klaw (1:23 PM) Make a good trade in your division and you've actually hurt your competition.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Holy s***. About time someone said it. gg Klaw. Some execs... you just wonder how they're employed.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Ken Rosenthal #BlueJays could upgrade at second or third and play Lawrie at either spot when he returns. Team wants SP, but open to any form of upgrade. Sources: #BlueJays exploring market for IFers. Kawasaki/Tolleson platoon at 2B, Francisco .600 OPS in June, poor numbers vs. lefties.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Why not just play Lawrie at shortstop? He can clearly play it. He has the arm strength and great range.

I really don't understand why Law hasn't been offered a good job from one of the better organizations in the league. If anything trading stars for good prospects should be encouraged WITHIN the division. Sure it benefits a rival in the short term, but will weaken them down the road when you're planning on competing.

Houston offered Law their pro scouting director job (the one Kevin Goldstein ended up taking) but he declined because it would mean more time away from his family. He seems to really like his current situation with ESPN. I'm sure if he was interested in working for a team again there would be a few interested.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 footwork? The footwork is just as tricky at second. If he has the arm for the third, and can handle the footwork at second, he should be able to handle short.

All the old baseball guys are claiming Lawrie can play deep at second because of his amazing arm and range.* As far as I can tell he's turning double plays well. The skill set should play at short. * OK. I'm talking Buck and Tabler... but still...

Not sure what would be the point. If you move him to SS and Reyes to 2B, you still have a hole at 3B. Wouldn't it be easier to just acquire a 2B and keep as many players as possible at the positions they are most comfortable?

Isn't 2B considered lower on the defensive spectrum? Seems like pretty much any non-1B can play 2B whereas 3B is more specialised because of the arm requirement.

I dont think there are many good 3rd basemen to be found as compared to 2nd base which there really aren't many available at a price that would be affordable. just wondering.... because I'd have to agree to that.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 1. Angels bullpen: The Angels could have a great team, a World Series contender. But they must solve their bullpen between now and Aug. 31, either through trades or internal solutions. Among all the teams contending, this is probably the most glaring hole, the fix most needed. 2. New York Yankees rotation: They're three games out in the AL East and one game out in the wild-card race as they open a series against the Red Sox, and their rotation ranks 21st in the majors in ERA. 3. Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop: They need an experienced alternative to Hanley Ramirez in case they determine that Ramirez's shoulder issue will linger. 4. Seattle Mariners outfield: The Mariners are in the thick of the AL wild-card race, but they need a hitter. 5. Oakland Athletics rotation: The A's need depth, and they'll get it. 6. Detroit Tigers bullpen: Tony Paul draws up a helpful list of 25 relievers who could interest the Tigers.

That's what I though Olney think either: A) Jays are good enough as is or They're not serious contenders Not sure which LOL. But pretty sad if it's B because he's got the f'n Mariners on there
