How about Jimmy Rollins, owe about 6 million dollars the rest of the way. Still an above average defensive and offensive shortstop, move Reyes to second. I would love to know what Ruben Amaro wants for him.

Beltre and Darvish, however, are “on another level” from the rest of the team, and executives that have spoken to Heyman can’t envision either being traded. A free agent at season’s end, McCarthy has about $4.72MM remaining on this year’s $9MM salary — the second year of a two-year, $15.5MM pact he inked in the 2012-13 offseason. Rosenthal notes that Arizona is likely to make multiple trades before this year’s deadline.

#BlueJays could upgrade at second or third and play Lawrie at either spot when he returns. Team wants SP, but open to any form of upgrade.

We have Seitzer now so how about McCarthy and Hill (back for a playoff run). Neither should be very expensive.

I really don't understand why Law hasn't been offered a good job from one of the better organizations in the league.

 

If anything trading stars for good prospects should be encouraged WITHIN the division. Sure it benefits a rival in the short term, but will weaken them down the road when you're planning on competing.

Houston offered Law their pro scouting director job (the one Kevin Goldstein ended up taking) but he declined because it would mean more time away from his family. He seems to really like his current situation with ESPN.

 

I'm sure if he was interested in working for a team again there would be a few interested.

The footwork is just as tricky at second. If he has the arm for the third, and can handle the footwork at second, he should be able to handle short.

Agreed 100%. All the old baseball guys are claiming Lawrie can play deep at second because of his amazing arm and range.* As far as I can tell he's turning double plays well. The skill set should play at short.

Not sure what would be the point. If you move him to SS and Reyes to 2B, you still have a hole at 3B. Wouldn't it be easier to just acquire a 2B and keep as many players as possible at the positions they are most comfortable?

It's much easier to find a good 3B though. 2B is a pretty shallow position.

I don't really see it that way. Isn't 2B considered lower on the defensive spectrum? Seems like pretty much any non-1B can play 2B whereas 3B is more specialised because of the arm requirement.

he could be referring to the availability of players. I dont think there are many good 3rd basemen to be found as compared to 2nd base which there really aren't many available at a price that would be affordable.

That's what I though

 

Olney think either:

 

A) Jays are good enough as is or

 

They're not serious contenders

 

Not sure which LOL. But pretty sad if it's B because he's got the f'n Mariners on there
