AdamDunnHatesBaseball Verified Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 This team needs an ace . It is a top 5 team in baseball with the addition of a guy like Price. A stacked offense with a rotation of: -Price -Hutchison -Buehrle -Dickey -Stroman Is good enough to win the world series. This team should offer anything and everything besides Stroman and Hutch to TB for Price. Discuss
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 The Rays probably hate Sanchez. So, not happening, probably.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 No thanks Pls trade him to NL for prospects that bust

If the Mets and Marlins can bend over AA as well as they have, Friedman would probably come away with owning the Roger's Centre.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Never really liked Price, like him less this season. They need to convince the Royals that they f***ing suck, and then they need to go balls out to get Shields. He's the absolute best option out there. Yes, he really is
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 We would rapidly tire of Zaun, Tabby, et all telling us what a "big game" player, what a "gamer" and how much of a "playoff winner" Shields is. This would occur daily from July to end of September.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Trade for Ian Kennedy, Jose Quinana or Brandon McCarthy and hope ( i know) Morrow comes back Healthy. We need our top young prospects as we have limited payroll flexibility due to the s***** Marlins trade.

It can be argued that the future payroll problems and s***** farm system is all the more reason to go all in now, with a closing window.

Shields has a decent career GB% of 44.7% and is at 46.6% this year. I would love to have him, he may be my favourite pitcher to watch. An absolute horse who knows how to pitch.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 The Rays probably hate Sanchez. So, not happening, probably. Sanchez's best start of the spring was against the Rays regulars...so maybe that outing probably didn't hurt his value with the rays...but I doubt the Rays trade price to an al east team...
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Why would the rays take a deal not involving Stroman, come on
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Strike now, get a SP. Get 'er done AA. McCarthy although only a 3/4 type guy might not cost a lot and could provide decent innings. That being said I would much prefer a #1 or #2 type guy. We need the David Cone trade. Yes we traded Jeff Kent to get him but it was well worth it since we won the WS.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Sanchez's best start of the spring was against the Rays regulars...so maybe that outing probably didn't hurt his value with the rays...but I doubt the Rays trade price to an al east team... So much stupid in 2 lines. Yeah, one start against the Rays is enough to convice Friedman and co. that this is their guy. DURRRRR. And this whole "they won't deal within the division" crap is untrue.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Ian Kennedy would be a nice option. He's certainly pitching like a #1 right now, though, so wouldn't be cheap.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 What could the Royals really get for shields with him only having a few months left on his contract. I guess it depends on how much competition there is to get him. He should be the cheapest to go get in terms of what you have to give up. Hopefully AA can strike early, maybe in a month or so and go get him.

I would love to have him, he may be my favourite pitcher to watch. An absolute horse who knows how to pitch. He gives up his fair share of HR, gives up more than league average of HR/9 and HR/FB. no starting pitcher in baseball has given up more in the past few seasons. A lot of it though is that he's always in the strike zone. I was also being slightly facetious. I like Shields.

And this whole "they won't deal within the division" crap is untrue. holy over reaction batman. I didn't say one outing in the spring was enough to convince Friedman. I said one good outing in spring didn't hurt his value. They probably aren't basing their opinion on Sanchez simply by his walk rate like many on here. Tampa will look for the best deal and that could be in the AL East, but their preference is likely not to trade within the division. That should be plainly obvious and if they had 2 deals of similar value they would likely choose the deal outside of the division.

And this whole "they won't deal within the division" crap is untrue. I got three names for you: Pat Gillick Al Leiter Jesse Barfield http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/TOR/TOR198804140.shtml It was allegedly that game that convinced Gillick about Leiter. Although admittedly Barfield was already done by the time the Jays let him go.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 McCarthy could be a good idea, especially given Towers is pretty damn stupid and could be had for (relatively) cheap.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 The window is likely closing soon. This is an elite offense with a few good serviceable pitchers. They need an ace. Price would put them over the top, so they should really consider it, assuming they even have the assets outside of Hutch/Stroman, which I'm not convinced they do.

Norris will be in big demand...but I hope we don't move him...
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Norris will be in big demand...but I hope we don't move him... Why? Because he might one day be somewhat in the realm of David Price? Give me a break. If they think Price will put them over the top Norris+ Sanchez is maybe even a starting point.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 If we did deal for Price, Kratz had better be his personal catcher.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 1st place June 1st with a bona fide offense and defense. Decent rotation that needs one more horse. An AL East with good teams all with their share of holes. This opportunity rarely comes. I like Norris and Sanchez, but the price of Shields or a Masterson will be steep. Its a sellers market. AA has to make the move for the now imo.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 This team can wait it out until closer to the deadline. I don't see the immediate rush considering what we just saw from Stroman.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 This team can wait it out until closer to the deadline. I don't see the immediate rush considering what we just saw from Stroman. Oh absolutely and I don't think many teams are ready to sell just yet. The Royals aren't trading Shields in June, I think they're hoping they can go on a run. Just one example. People talk about the AL East being weak, but I don't see it as being any weaker than the Central. The West is probably stronger, but many who are now calling the East weak picked the Rays and Red Sox to be pretty darn good so now that the Jays are leading it, it's all of a sudden a weak division. My point is that there's some parity and this means not many teams will give up on the playoffs this early, especially now with the extra WC.

You said that they would most probably not deal within the division. Nice job revising your post when it's right there for all to see. That start by Sanchez was 100% irrelevant in regards to any decision Friedman might make in the future. That should be "plainly obvious".
