GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 You specifically said end point was arbitrary, and you were wrong. I could easily go back and pick June 1 as the starting point and the conclusion would be the same... they are all sucking. But this way had more value in showing WHEN they started sucking. I'm not even going to argue what I said with you cause you're just trying to distract from the point that you're just deliberately misusing stats to fit your agenda. Just the worst kind of thing. They aren't sucking, they're sucking since the point that you specifically chose. Overall, they are useful contributors, I don't give a f*** what your agenda is. Use the entire sample available.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Melky Cabrera since May 13: .241 .293 .668.......... SUCK Brett Lawrie since May 16: .231 .278 .645....... SUCK Steve Tolleson since May 27: .167 .231 .397...... SUCK Adam Lind since June 3: .263 .349 .691....... SUCK Jaun Francisco since May 21: .161 .217 .627........ SUCK Josh Thole since May 1: .189 .318 .534...... SUCK Only Reyes, Bautista, Navarro and Kratz have been consistent / not bad. Not only did you use molecular and arbitrary sample sizes, you used a different sample for every player? http://i.imgur.com/py2PxcN.gif How much time did that rubbish take you?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Wait did he call Adam Lind's 1.040 OPS "suck?" LOL

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Keep it up GD. You're 100% right.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Last time I checked AVG / OBP / OPS are pretty standard slash line. Lol wtf? Last I checked it was AVG/OBP/SLG. Not that I use those, but who the f*** uses AVG/OBP/OPS? I can calculate OPS just fine, I'm dumn but I can add, why not just put slugging like, I dunno, everyone, ever? Doesn't even matter, still doesn't help that your samples are painful and hurt my soul.
Convo Verified Member Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 You don't seem to get it/compute? And you don't get that they've all been sucking for at least several weeks.

Media posts these types of sample sizes all the time. I'm not judging their talent. I'm saying they are ALL sucking from X period until now... why does that hurt you? Seems pretty valid to show who is slumping when the team has been struggling.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 And you don't get that they've all been sucking for at least several weeks. And you don't get that several weeks < the entire season in terms of importance. Media posts these types of sample sizes all the time. I'm not judging their talent. I'm saying they are ALL sucking from X period... why does that hurt you? I'm sorry but I would hope that you'd hold yourself to a higher standard than the likes of Barry god damn Davis. I know you're saying they're all sucking from X period. I'm saying that you're not looking at the right sample.

I'm saying that you're not looking at the right sample. I'm not evaluating the players. This is not Fangraphs 101. Why do you take it so personally? I'm just showing who's struggling and when it started (and vent/raging at the same time).

You didn't "show who's struggling" you wrote "SUCK" in all caps next to every player's name. Learn to put things into context.

I'm just showing who's struggling and when it started (and vent/raging at the same time). What do you mean by 'struggling' though? It's not like the players you mentioned have experienced a change in talent level. They can be expected to perform as well tomorrow as at any other point in this season. Nothing that's happened in the arbitrary (and small) samples you've provided means anything. Players are who they are. Once you realize this and stop getting hyped up over the stats the media feeds you, it makes the game a lot more enjoyable.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 No, no, he's right. And on that note... Strongly doubt we even got RISP 24 times against the Rays prior to this year
