Any thoughts? I have this guy hanging. Thanks!

It's really team context that matters most here. You would be getting two middle rotation types and a borderline elite (top 20ish) OF for a top 5 OF. Do the necessary two deletions from your team have value or potential value? Do you need help in pitching cats, and the loss in hitting cats can be absorbed?

On the surface, Houck, McClanahan, and Teo for Tucker is in your favour (with Cavalli instead of Houck, I would say the deal is fair both sides), but again team context is what is important in these consolidation deals.

Go with the counter offer, if he wants him, he should do it. His offers are too light, get what you want.

I was offered Lance McCullers for Anthony Volpe in a dynasty.

The league is skewed a little bit toward pitchers. The minor league draft is for new players only, so anyone else in the minors is fair game. Volpe himself was a mid season free agent pickup.

What do you guys think?

McCullers scares me with his injury propensity. Big factor IMO..

Not if you want to win, Volpe ain't s*** in value.

There is talk he will be #1 SS prospect by end of year and pass CJ Abrams. That would at least probably get you a young SP who didn’t end the season hurt and has not pitched since

(meaning no evidence of recovery yet).

McCullers

Volpe is arguably a top-10 prospect. I'd take him in most formats over McCullers.

In a format where you can pick up prospects from any level at any time ("free for all"), I would take the proven MLB'er.

Not if you're trying to win. If so, you're lying.

I still would. Volpe can probably be flipped for your pick of healthy good starters at the deadline. The hype is going to be huge if he succeeds at AA this year. If it's a 20-team league McCullers is ideally your 3rd or 4th best starter, especially if its K/BB.

But the waiver wire? Have you read OP?

I think he's probably a tier or two better than what you can expect to scoop in the waiver wire in a given season, even if you can scoop anyone who isn't owned. He's probably going to be a consensus top-5 prospect by the time the deadline rolls around. And McCullers has like a 50% chance of being healthy at that point. Gimme Volpe.

Thank you so much for all the replies guys! It's an interesting deal from my perspective. It's kind of a weird league in that prospects aren't worth much until they hit top tier status but #4 SPs like McCullers are worth a decent amount. But since it's only a 14 teamer a replacement level SP really isn't THAT bad. Yuskei Kikuchi just got traded for a couple of scrub picks for example.

I def see where people are saying do it but it seems like Volpe could be special right? Or is Volpe just a guy? I traded Tatis Jr in a similar deal like 3 years ago or so and definitely regret that one so maybe I'm just snake bit lol.

I'm leaning toward making him throw something else in and doing it. Thanks again though!

Witt Jr., Abrams, Luciano, Marte, Oneil Cruz are ahead of Volpe. Highly unlikely to be a FTJ scenario. A Jeter Downs trajectory is more likely than that.

We are we talking like Volpe has to be FTJ to be more valuable than Lance McCullers in a 14-team league? If it's a K/BB league McCullers is a back end starter who can't stay healthy, and was just shut down again in the playoffs with forearm issues.

Just pick up next summers Volpe via FA and trade for another keeper. Rinse and repeat.

If you’re trying to win take the SP. Prospects fail all the time. Fantasy was spoiled with Tatis, Soto and Acuna. Rarely do guys hit the ground running and if they suck are they worthy of a keeper spot?

I mean you could also try to pick up an SP4 in a 14-teamer, may not hurt chasing upside even if it’s unlikely. Idk

Depends on the team I guess

Can chase upside in the league anytime. I'm in a similar league and last summer picked up Orelvis, Elly De La Cruz, and Roansy off the wire. I would have no plm at all trading Orelvis for an SP now, and pick up whoever breaks out similar to Orelvis next summer.

I guess but I would have to think McCullers is better than whatever is only the wire

In a league that shallow where you can pick up prospects I'd be flipping them into big league assets all the time.

The best thing to do is to leave the league that unfairly weights pitching and find a new one.

Do what I did, trade every prospect you ever drafted or picked up at their peak value for legit major leaguers, and win 2 seasons later. Whatever everyone else is doing, do the opposite.
