How good is Marwin Gonzalez in fantasy baseball? For a deep dynasty league that has 20 game requirements how good is a league average bat with 1B/2B/SS/OF eligibility? At any given moment I could probably pick up a similar bat off the waiver wire (probably a better bat at 1B and OF, worse at SS and 2B) but in a head to head league it seems like he might be pretty useful. Anyway, what do you guys think?

Yeah, a viable starting SS if you need him to be and if he's on your bench being able to secure SS while having a plug-in at all those other positions is nice.

 

I would mostly be on him for the upside shot though.

Lol I need to get back into LoD. I'm in a league right now where we have "Winter Meetings" meaning you can only make offseason moves during this 10 day span until the league starts up again in March. So I've been busy with that one.

Yeah I hear you. I rely on Steamer a fair amount and it isn't the biggest fan of his when you use Fangraphs Auction calculator but I don't know how much that accounts for his multi-positional use. He's also a FA so he needs to sign somewhere where he's getting regular AB's but I'm assuming he will.

My other question is what do you all make of Andrew Suarez? Steamer basically thinks he's a Top 60 SP but no one else I've seen even thinks he's rosterable in anything but the very deepest of leagues.

I think there's significant value to having roster flexibility and multi-position players. Basically makes your roster more resilient, and sometimes even "antifragile" if the flexible player has upside.

Astros and Rays are making positions meaningless. On top of Marwin, Yuli has 1B, 2B, 3B, Bregman has SS now, Tyler White played every position in AAA. I'm sure there are others.

Royals are likely to do the same with Chris Owings this season. He'll likely get 2B, SS and CF eligibility back. Tim Beckham has 3B and SS eligibility and likely will get 2B as well with the Mariners. Wilmer Flores will get some multiple positions in Arizona.

So if Marwin is a solid 14 team dynasty player, then Asdrubal Cabrera (2B/3B/SS) probably is too after signing to be the Rangers 3B. I can keep him for close to the minimum. I think I might try to keep him and Marwin and just role with the matchups like crazy this year.
