ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Okay, this is probably comparing apples to oranges, but what if by late June there IS a fire sale, and all the Edwin's, Bautistas, etc. are sold off for great prospects, etc. We could hopefully shed the MB abd Reyes contracts, too. Anyone making more than $5M. Maybe include Rasmus, if we get a better deal for him than offering a QO. We could have the best farm system in the majors and have a low payroll. We could choose to extend Lawrie, we'd certainly have the payroll flexibility, and maybe start some of those prospects we've just traded for since it wouldn't start their arbitration clock early (assuming the prospects weren't up before June). Maybe we pull a Raptors and the kids make things interesting down the stretch? This is a scenario that is really appealing to me. I don't think we have the right mix of starting pitching and vets to contend. Thing is, this is what they were supposed to be doing prior to the 2012 off season. They had a top 10 farm system, payroll flexibility and they threw it away in return for the opposite. I don't think we should feel confident that this FO can get the job done if given another 5 years.
Sparky12 Verified Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Because of one outing? He had a 3.01 xFIP before yesterday. Morrow isn't done as a starter, but he's proving to be #5 at best going forward, absolutely zero consistency
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Because of one outing? He had a 3.01 xFIP before yesterday. He doesn't instill much confidence though He's so frustrating to watch. Prob still my favorite starter on this team because of the ceiling, but his starts can be so maddening. The inefficiency can drive you nuts.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 if done as a starter BJgirl means he is hurt again..... quite possible 8 walks in less than 3 innings
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Morrow isn't done as a starter, but he's proving to be #5 at best going forward, absolutely zero consistency We have waited long enough for Morrow and McGowan. It's none of diabetes, is a matter of talent-results. This should be the last season in the jays uniform.

Chappy Community Moderator Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Probably TJ surgery coming soon.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 BTW d'arno 9 hits in last 22 at bats...... gonna rage if he catches fire and hope Rogers notices!
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Sometimes velo goes up right before the ligament tears off. Not always.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Sometimes velo goes up right before the ligament tears off. Not always. So we should expect him to touch 102 miles per hour then?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I think a guy like Dickey would be really appealing to several teams, especially those he's pitched well against historically. D'arnaud and Syndegaard interested? No effing way, but maybe one goog prospects and a B guy. Thissssss. I think the Padres are a great fit for him. Back to the NL, pitcher's park, they need pitching with Luebke and Johnson dead and Cashner being liable to explode. They probably (?) wouldn't give Hedges or Fried, but I feel like Erlin, Wisler, Peterson and Renfroe would all be on the table. A package from that could be a nice return.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Don't think so, his velocity hasn't changed at all. 16BB in 22 innings is extremely concerning. Another bad outing and I wouldn't be surprised if an injury is announced.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Is it just me or is someone hitting on someone in this thread?
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Maybe, but not TJ. Maybe Nerve Entrapment Surgery?
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 they should just pre-emptively give him TJ. Just kidding. Lighten up.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Is it just me or is someone hitting on someone in this thread? its just you
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I think he'll bounce back but he can't pitch like buehlre. He has to pitch like Hutch with more velocity. How does he not know that's how he'll be successful. I think its the diabetes
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 In sum, our best horses can't compete with their best horses. Time to go back to the drawing board and sell. I honestly don't see another choice.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Disagree, replace McGowan with Stroman and it's a pretty good rotation. Morrow, Hutch, and Dickey will all be above average in the end. Stroman over McGowan could be a huge upgrade. I agree the rotation looks a lot better with Stroman. Move McGowan to the pen and dump Happ. McGowan could end up being a very good long reliever for us.
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I hope so. Okay, how long before Stroman is promoted? Would it take one more bad McG start?
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I hope so. Okay, how long before Stroman is promoted? Would it take one more bad McG start? I think it does. If McGowan does at least give the Jays 5 innings in his next start, he's out of the rotation. You can't have a starter averaging less than 5 per start and expect to contend in this division, let alone league. By the way, just curious is that a picture of you in your avatar?

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 It would appear to look that way. Nothing like the pressure eh? "So, um, we're giving you another start, but we have a 22 year old in the minors who is ready, and so fired up to pitch in the majors that he breathes fire. If you don't give us a quality start on Tuesday he gets your job and you're going back to the pen. So give us a great game Dustin!"

Dusty made some interesting comments about his blood sugar being high recently on pregame. He said he might wear a pump while pitching to try and control it.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Morrow best xxFIP on team even after yesterday. He didn't deserve all of the walks. Morrow 3.67 Hutchison 3.79 Dickey 3.80 Buehrle 4.26 McGowan 4.53 Walking 8 batters is clearly unacceptable, there is no sugar coating it.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Hutch and Dickey I agree I'm worried we won't get a full productive season out of Morrow Yeah my expectations on Morrow aren't that high. You can't expect much with him and expect him to pitch to his potential, because that seems like it never will happen. I'm a huge Brandon Morrow fan, though people need to come to realization that he is never going to be that ace or solid No. 2 guy in the rotation.
