Caper Verified Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 I hear he will be treating himself, as a diabetic during the game. Large spikes and dips of his blood sugar could really be having an effect. I want to see how he reacts to treatment.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 That's just it. An inefficient SP affects more than just the innings they pitch. If they can't make it through 6 innings on average then the pen starts to get overworked, quality guys with options get sent down for inferior arms that are 'fresh', and your horses end up having to go longer at times when they probably shouldn't. Our BP has been overworked and actually only Buehrle hasn't contributed to that. In the situation the Jays are in and with an 8 man pen i still see JF&S,s idea we use an almost tandem type starter system for McGowan and Morrow as the only option unless we go with Stroman. Have McGowan go 4 then Happ 4, Morrow 5 the Redmond 4. The Astros are using this with some success and while it uses up 2 BP arms it should also give us innings for those two spots.

Morrow uses a pump but not while pitching. not sure if that has changed. You would think with both having the issue a doctor would be able to give them some suggestion of what to do.

Dusty spoke about possibly using the pump during his next start due to recent high spikes during games.

It's fine for one slot but not two, that's just asking for a lot of trouble. We would be better off moving Stroman into the rotation and McGowan into the pen. At this point Happ is the weakest arm in that pen and it's time to dump him. Rogers and Redmond should be sufficient as the primary long men and McGowan should just be a one or two inning guy. At some point AA is going to have to dump some of the excess garbage unless he just doesn't give a f***. Happ and Sierra should both be released immediately and Stroman and Gose called up. We still have additional BP arms in Wagner and Stiltson just waiting in the minors at this point so I can't understand why AA would rather risk the quality of the big league squad over losing players that really have little to no value. Jeffress making the opening day roster was another huge eye opener. I really wish their was someone in the upper brass who could call him out on such ridiculous roster management. Even the Wilner thinks AA has done a terrible job with some of the roster management and he is the biggest tool, just goes to show that everyone around this team is aware AA isn't getting the most out of this team but it seems no one is going to call him out on it.

I don't disagree. at some point the team has to move on and I've always said I'd rather watch kids lose and develop than stick with vets hoping they succeed. How long they can continue with all the deadwood they are carrying remains to be seen when you know it is costing wins . i have to believe AA is trying to trade some but again at some point cut your losses and move on . Thing is if he was to move Happ and Rogers that would free up enough money to sign Drew which is why I can't understand why they haven't tried to showcase Happ . Pretty soon it will be too late . Once this team is down 10 games it will be time to do a gut and rebuild .
shortstop Verified Member Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 imo, Morrow likely has 2 guaranteed starts before there is legitimate internal debate whether to replace his spot in the rotation and probably move him into the bullpen to figure things out...

Large spikes and dips of his blood sugar could really be having an effect. I want to see how he reacts to treatment. That's right, I think he will be using an insulin pump during the game. It should definitely help keep his levels in check. In the CFL, an all star DE named John Chick uses one (he was in the NFL for three seasons, too) and he's been very effective. Hopefully that solves the Morrow issues with fatigue.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Sometimes, you need lose to win. Royals, destroy McGowan today and help us to free Stroman!!

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I have a feeling that Stroman replaces McGowan no matter how well he does. Well, maybe not if he throws a CG.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Sometimes, you need lose to win. Royals, destroy McGowan today and help us to free Stroman!! McGowan goes six does that put morrow on the bubble?
Chappy Community Moderator Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 McGowan goes six does that put morrow on the bubble? Nah, I think the writing is on the wall for McGowan at this point, he is going back to the pen. Morrow is a separate case and I think if he struggles in the month of May as well then he may get replaced as well.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I'm totally OK with D-Mac as a swingman.... was saying that's his best role since spring training Long man in the pen and guy that can give 5 IP, sometimes 6 IP, of adequate starting pitching
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 But how do you replace him too many pen arms already! Is he tradable even ? And who replaces him?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Is the Bison's game postponed? Marcus Stroman strikes out two more batters in second, four Ks so far, three looking. Works quick, good on a cool, windy evening.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 McGowan must be s***ing his pants. Hopefully he's not paying attention to what Stroman is doing g. All he can do is go out and pitch his best. What he must be fully aware of is that if he can only finish 4 innings again he's done.

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Stroman finishes the third 3.0 IP 5K 1BB 0R 0H Question is can stroman go more then five or has that been by design ?
