G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Capt Obvious indeed So, um, do something about it pls
TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted April 25, 2014 Author Posted April 25, 2014 I know its an honest assessment on AA's part, but hes seriously trolling the fan base by saying that in an interview. He should just go a step further and say we're waiting on players to offer to defer some of their salary in order to upgrade at those spots, since thats the sad but true part.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 “One more starter, and a second baseman that would maybe add a little more offence, are probably the two things that would really jump out,” Kawasaki would add "a little more offence" and he demoted him. There really doesn't seem to be any urgency to act on these needs even in favour of internal options. What's the expiration date on the McGowan experiment? What's enough time to build stamina? How long does it usually take to stretch a guy out in the minors? What's the plan? It seems to me that there should be a certain point that's considered a reasonalbe amount of time and once that's passed you move on to plan B. Same thing with Goins. At what point are you forced to admit that Seitzer can't just waive a magic wand and him a hitter? It seems like the plan is to just stay the course with both of these guys and wait for something to change.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 umm no, they need to upgrade the top of the rotation and push everyone down a spot.
flafson Verified Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 He doesn't say that he will do something about Goins, he says that he knows it's one of the holes we have.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Zaun on FAN 590 now "He doesn't deserve a starting spot. I don't want him to throw 10 pitches" (let alone 80)
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 now he's bashing the Jays hitting approach.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 I can actually see the possibility of a multi year deal for Drew following the draft. I would still run with Kawasaki in the interim. Just because there's no ideal option doesn't mean the team shouldn't run with the best one it has.

I don't want him to throw 10 pitches" (let alone 80) I don't have the option of listening to zaun and people here seem to have a low opinion of him but its so refreshing to hear someone giving an honest opinion of the jays. So fed up of listening to the pish that Martinez and tablet spout on the Tele.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Move McGowan to the pen, where he belongs, and get Stroman up here. He's got nothing left to prove in AAA.

LOL. Really AA? You don't say. This has literally never been brought up before, and certainly not all off season. :sarcasm:

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 You know what else would be good? A non-terrible bench!
wardhenke1 Verified Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 (edited) This is beyond Captain Obvious, this is just taking the piss. We went 'all in' and discovered that this meant spending more than twice the amount of money we did 5 years ago on wages, getting much older and depleting the farm system just to get back to .500, which is where we were when AA started. Then this off-season Rogers pulled the plug on further funding. What. A. f***ing. Joke. And they wonder why scalpers have to offer the keys to their pink limo and a free blow job from a whore to sell tickets to the 500 level. Edited April 25, 2014 by wardhenke1
shortstop Verified Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 pisses me off reading his comments...either stand by your guys, especially only less than a month into the season and especially in the case of Goins where he spent most of the off-season glorifying him or don't say anything in the off-season to anoint Goins & then complain about the lack of offensive production...
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 I can actually see the possibility of a multi year deal for Drew following the draft. There'd be no reason to wait until the draft if we're offering multiple years.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Well he had no money. Sure it is obvious but who is to blame ? Rogers who tightened the purse stings or AA who blew the wad last year. I spread it around . I'm sure AA would have loved to add Drew and he thought he had a deal done with Santana (Not a 1/2 guy ) that would have given us innings. It was a no win situation so how does he fix it now? I think JF&S,s suggestion of sort of tandem starters (Long men ) that Houston is using is the answer for McGowan/Happ. Each go 4 innings and try and get less exposure from our BP. Our BP failure is in some part due to over exposure IMO.
shortstop Verified Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 kgm, I hear ya, but then AA shouldn't have, imo, anointed Goins like he & Gibbons did in the off-season...and then now he complains about his offence not even a month in..really? 5th starter - I can give him a lot of leeway - I'm not going to blame him for not signing certain pitchers for certain $'s and for certain years...I initially blamed AA for the Santana crap...but more information came out & turns out Rogers shut off the tap...and further, looks like jays indeed believed they had a deal only to see Santana wait a day, braves pitchers go down & now he's a Brave.

You know, it is f***ing depressing that everyone here has been saying all this stuff all off season and now this dumbass sees the light. Yeah, armchair GMs actually seem more capable than this Greek *******. WHAAA?! GOINS CAN'T HIT? WOULD COULD HAVE POSSIBLY SEEN THAT COMING? He only had his entire mediocre minor league career to base it on and the fact that he couldn't hit in AAA while being old for the level. And just lol @ all the morons in the Coins thread. I look forward to your next org guy crush.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 You know what else would be good? A non-terrible bench! Yep, we still don't have a viable platoon for Lind/4th outtfielder...sad

Yeah, armchair GMs actually seem more capable than this Greek *******. In this case, I agree - almost everyone everywhere that knows anything about baseball were all saying wtf is AA doing? great defence but zero offfence. Now he's playing politician again? if goins picks it up, he'll say he knew he had it in him, he didn't start well & needed some more production but still believed in him" and if he doesn't, he'll he tested the waters but by april 25th it was obvious something needed to be done... like Happ, sometimes AA just needs to shut up.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 wtf Well no s***, now what the f*** is he going to do? Lacava came out and said basically Stroman is closer to promotion than we think. Is he going to call up Stroman and sign Drew after the draft? Will we be still in it by June to make this move worth it?

TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted April 25, 2014 Author Posted April 25, 2014 Memo to Wilner : AA says Goins and McGowan aren't good enough. Change your narrative starting on JaysTalk tonight.
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 what is the projected war of a kawasaki/diaz platoon at second?
TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted April 25, 2014 Author Posted April 25, 2014 No it's probably around .5 to 1 WAR. At least this due to defensive metrics.
