8D Verified Member Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 What terrible news. I hope he RIP. What I loved most about him was that he was clearly living his life full of passion, following and pursuing what he loved. And I think that even comes through text/posts through the internet. I've had a few PMs with im and he was always pure class. The board lost a great member. RIP, Kirk Sawyers.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Ah man, terrible news. I didn't know the guy but he always took whatever abuse he was given in stride. There was a time on the old board where he was the consensus "Post of the Year." That happened more than once if I'm not mistaken.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sawyers Apparently Kirksaw was mentioned on Wiki as a notable person with the last name "Sawyers"..
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Wow. I can't believe I missed this.. He was a long time contributor to this and the old site. He was far from a follower like some on the boards. He was always respectful even if you did not agree with him. It really is a s***** deal. RIP

Yeah he used to have a small wiki entry including info on him being an ump and GM of some Canadian baseball team.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Funeral was today at Mount Hope. Was a nice service, I obviously didn't stay long just paid my respects and left. Lots of guys wore ball caps to honour him. He was only 2 years older than me.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Classy of you to go. Respect.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Just seeing a bunch of posts on Facebook saying Kirksaw has passed.....apparently heart attack. wow , that is sad . Only Spanky and Me left I think from all the JPR early years on the board. Pretty sure He was on the board when Jay and I joined in 2002 or 2003 . Can you confirm this Jay ? Wasn't that old either . Early 50,s My thoughts go out to the family
kgm1 Verified Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Yeah he was on the board from 2000, he was 45. That is damn sad Jay . Longest serving member of this board going back to the other one . Lived for baseball . Loved the Jays . Would have liked him to see them win once again i admit I'm probably the oldest guy on this board or close to it . Hope I last till the Jays win once again .
kgm1 Verified Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Chris , Not sure how facebook works but if your a friend can you post on his page that all His baseball friends are thinking of him and his family .
The_DH Verified Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I go back a long ways too. I always read his posts because of the deep understanding. Baseball discussion has lost something with his passing.
mitchf Verified Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Really sad news, I always made sure I read his comments.. RIP
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I'll miss our long debates over organizational depth guys. I actually never got my Kirksaw sleepers for this season, ends a 7 year tradition. You'll be missed Kirk. RIP.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 lol, he used to LOVE Robert Ray. I Want to go back and look at the names. Some good ones I'm sure. I don't think there is a person outside of the organization who knew as much about the Jays depth guys as Kirk.

I don't think there is a person outside of the organization who knew as much about the Jays depth guys as Kirk. Every year he always had a couple of minor league signs he thought might come around . He took a lot of ribbing over it and some real thrashings but never got excited . Just calmly stated his view . Perfect personallity for an Umpire . I think about all the hours he spent giving his time so Kids could play baseball. And all the crap he probably took from bad parents . Minor ball in Toronto lost a lot
Pinkfloid Verified Member Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Despite being a lurker on these boards (and the old one) I definitely enjoyed reading his posts and always enjoyed them (even if I didn't always agree). Feels strangely like a family member passing away...he will be missed. R.I.P. Kirk
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 f***, this really, really blows. I'm going to try not to get hung up on the fact that my only encounter with him was of the negative variety, but I do feel bad because my only time really conversing with him was giving him a hard time on the old board for constantly nut-hugging the umps. In actuality, the guy was a solid poster and never really held a grudge. I've been reading his posts for years and years. Even though they were somewhat laughable at times, I always really appreciated the entertainment value of his "inside sources" posts as well as his amazing ability to pick who would get called up next from the minors. The board lost a good one, for sure. RIP Kirksaw.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
