Not calm

It is difficult to be calm during the collapse. It is 2009 all over again :(.

Maybe we have to figure out what started the Cycle. Since 1993 it has been ground hog day. This is just 2009 all over again. If we don't stop the cycle before we know it we will be watching Baltimore and the Yanks fight it out for the pennant as we fight for pick 14.

It really ended late April 1994. On Apr. 26 we were 13-7. Olerud looked like he would take another run at .400... Delgado rookie of the year no question. Then boom. It ended. It was over. 20 years in the wilderness began.

What the hell happened?? I am open to suggestions. Yes Gillick left.. but not that day. It was at the end of 1994. Or maybe he did leave that day and they just didn't tell us until October.

On Arpil 26th the founder of Karate died. Does this have something to do with Karate. http://www.historyorb.com/date/1994/april/26

April 22nd may actually have been the high point 11-5. Nixon died that day. Does this all have something to do with Nixon?? WTF?? What does Nixon have to do with the Jays?? Why would he curse us. Maybe he was innocent and the Jays will not win until that is proven...

For the next generation we have to stop the curse. We are Bill Murray in Ground Hog day and have woken up to 2009. If we don't act now the collapse will be swift and furious.

How did Bill Murray fix everything in Ground Hog day??

Rasmus can't get back here quick enough.

I'll settle for getting Cabrera, Bautista and Encarnacion back from wherever they've been hiding this past week

If the Jays are going to struggle, there are at least a few things they can do to help themselves snap out of it, which they haven't been doing.

- See pitches, try to work a walk

- Bunt for base hits (Gose, Reyes, etc.)

- Don't f***ing run into outs on the base baths

- Play solid D

If we get swept in Baltimore then panic is warranted

Savy Gibby could only fight Beeston for so long... He did a valiant effort.

Friday June 6th.. Jays defeat St. Louis 3-1. Later that night Beeston on his Cell Phone to someone....

Beeston - "We only scored 3 runs tonight. Did you know the average team scores 4 runs a game? That's an actual stat."

Other end - mumble.. mumble... incomprehensible

Beeston - "No you listen. We weren't even average tonight. Not even average."

Other end - mumble... sigh... incomprehensible

Beeston- "I'm not hearing it. It's past time we got Cito to give the boys hitting tips again."

Other end - silence... deep breath... incomprehensible

Beeston- "I'm well aware it's only one game. But it's not the Blue Jay way to wait until a slump happens. Good management see's the storm coming and changes the weather."

Other end - losing patience... incomprehensible....

Beeston- "They can to change the weather,.. They use crop dusters to spray nanoparticles in the sky... I saw it on TV the other night. Anyway enough of this. Tell the boys to report early tomorrow for extra batting practice with Cito."

If we get swept in Baltimore then panic is warranted

Even then, panic is not warranted. We'd essentially be in a three way tie for first place, with a series against the Yankees coming up. For now, we are the 4th best team by record in baseball out of 30 teams. In all seriousness, this forum overstates our weaknesses, overreacts to anything bad, and assumes that other teams and their players are stronger then they are. Look at Oakland, it's a good team but it's not an elite team. In fact, I would contend there are no truly elite teams in baseball any more, every single team has real weaknesses somewhere. Only San Francisco is rolling at a high clip, unless one notes WE were rollling at a high clip in May sweeping several supposed playoff contenders.

We have tradable assets now, rentals in Rasmus and Lind or youngsters like Gose, Stroman, Sanchez, Nolin plus useful controllable pieces like Redmond, Delebar, Cecil. This is a much healthier a situation then it appeared we had in the off season. I'd be looking at keeping Stroman and Sanchez ( maintain some higher ceiling upside in the system ), but shop around maybe some combo deal like Nolin/Gose/Redmond for a pitcher. That kind of package will be attractive to noncontenders, Nolin seems to be a legit candidate to pitch in the ML , Gose is a nice wild card prospect with upside, Redmond can be a fifth starter many places at a minimum salary. If Feldman signed for 10 mill a season, well Redmond has value to NL teams on a budget for sure.

And I'm sure many will disagree with me, but something like Sanchez/Gose/Delebar would get serious attention for any pitcher. I just don't personally want to move Sanchez unless absolutely necessary. My bet is somebody in baseball will get a top rental for cheaper then this package, and people will say wow why didn't we get in on that situation ? Hopefully, this doesn't occur and we do get in on one dependable veteran pitcher.

I can't help but be optimistic about our chances. 2/7 is nothing, Detroit had a similar run recently and no one is going to count them out.

Even including every recent loss. the only ground we lost in the last 10 games in the AL East was one game to Baltimore, everyone else was the same or worse.

I remain calm like it's 1985 all over again.

Well said CPH. The rest of us degenerates can't take a few losses. Are we realists?? Or basket cases?? Only time will tell. Keep the faith. Good to see. Wish I could have the same spirit.

Holy s***

Is Sietzer following us??? Or is Sietzer such a bizarre genius that he was ahead of the game on the entire calmness thing.

Kevin Sietzer tells hitters "Calm Down"

This might be a special year. Holy s***. Calm down.

Ubaldo now has 45 BB's in 76 IP, so glad we didn't sign this clown.

You don't want to sign a guy who show's his pitches in his delivery?

I know this post will fall on deaf ears, but it is pretty funny how not being a blind homer for a team that hasn't made the playoffs in 20 years is automatically interpreted by some as freaking out, being impulsive, and irrational.

Losing sucks but cant we just enjoy being in 1st place one game at a time? The best thing about baseball is almost always they go right back at it tomorrow.

Maybe tonight the Dominicans rub some chicken blood on their bats and we put up 10. (actually that's more of a Haitian thing but same island-whatever)

It would be great to see them put up 10... as long as the other guys don't put up 12.

Keep the positivity coming. Unlike the other negative nancies I'm not against positivity. It's great stuff. Wish I had that kind of attitude.

Keep Calm.

Savy Gibby.

Hale - "Bad news skip. Lind can't play today. And I think Francisco might suck."

Gibby - "That's not good. We gotta face that big righty Tillman. Oh well... maybe we can score some points with the boss."

Gibby gets on the phone - "It's a reverse platoon... it doesn't make sense statistically but it shows them who's boss. Cito told me he did once it with Brumfield and Olerud. Just to let them know who was in charge"

Beeston - "Good move. I like it. That kind of thing is important. This game is all about respect."

Been tempted to bump some old threads on the Board about Armageddon due to AA failing to sign Jiminez, Garza or Santana.

They seem pretty funny in hindsight. Somehow they don't seem so essential now.

Still think we need to add another serious SP though.

Wow, Garza and Jimi have been pretty terrible. The guy we all thought was a gross option has somehow been the best.

Another win in the books. 4-6 the last 10. What were the negative nancies getting in a huff about?? 4-6?? It happens.

I will say one thing. From the day I watched that first game in 88 I've believed in this team. Through thick and thin. I believed in them in 88, and 89 and 90,91,92,93... and you know what??

I didn't stop there. I believed in 94 and 95. But everyone still did. I believed in 96. I believed in them in 97 and 98. I believed in 99, and 2000, and 01, and 02, and 03 and 04 and 05. For Christ Sakes I believed Russ Adams could play short stop.

I believed in 2006 and 07 and 08. I believed in John Gibbons and when that didn't work out I believed Cito would come back and get it done a second time. I believed in 09 and 10 and 11 and 12 and 13.

And in 2014 I believe more than ever. You will never find me saying a negative word about anybody associated with the Blue Jays because more than anything I believe in the Blue Jay way.

Go Jays, look on the bright side, keep calm!!!

The chicken blood jobu worked and Happ was nasty...Yanks are getting spanked...all is good in Jays world today.

Greetings, Lord Olerud. Good to see you are still keeping these degenerate homosexualists in line. I refilled the holy water on the way in and left you a large amount of calmness heroin on your desk within your chambers. Praise be.

? I don't think these guys are homosexualists.. And even if they are that's OK these days.

Actually I just read in the panic thread that one young guy got lucky last night. But come to think of it he never mentioned if it was a girl...

From Lott - "Marcus Stroman vows to stay calm in first start in home city – but when No. 2 steps in … http://sports.nationalpost.com/2014/06/17/toronto-blue-jays-marcus-stroman-vows-to-stay-cool-during-first-start-in-his-home-city/ … #BlueJays"

This is no coincidence. The word calm is now trending everywhere. JSFIP saved the franchise with his legendary March 31st post.

If wasn't even f***ing April and you babies all went insane... JSFIP was the voice of sanity.

Quick Question:

Will Stroman be the frontrunner for Rookie of the year after tonights game??

Serious question. If Stroman dominates and the Jays pound Tanaka does Stroman become front runner for Rookie of the Year??

I have no doubt by September Stroman will be running away with the award. But I think there is a chance that at roughly 10:15 on MLB tonight Harold Reynolds will proclaim Stroman as the front runner.

Harold Reynolds - "Tanaka has started off hot. No doubt about it. But after seeing Stroman dominate tonight, and the Jays looked very comfortable against Tanaka tonight.. it was their second look at him. I mean as teams see Tanaka again and perhaps have more success... and as the Jays get deeper into their pennant race with Stroman right in the spotlight. Don't laugh folks. I'm calling it. Stroman will be rookie of the year."

Keep calm!

I would love nothing more than to see Stroman destroy the Yankees tonight and have Tanaka s*** the bed, but I think it's more realistic that Stroman pitches a solid game and we manage to get a few runs and squeak out a win. I really do hope you are right and Stroman wins Rookie of the year, but I think its best that we just enjoy the current success we are having and take everything one game at a time.

Keep calm and play some solid ball that's what I want to see.

That is the spirit. Realistic calmness and optimism.

I'm being a little silly. Realistically Tanaka wins rookie of the year... hopefully for a low 80s win Yankees team.

Stroman is in the top 5 for a playoff bound Blue Jays team. That would be cool.

It would be very cool to see Stroman win one tonight. I like the control so far.

Off the top of my head:

1.) Tanaka

2.) Abreu

3.) Springer

Stroman started late so I wouldn't include him in that group. I'd even put Bogaerts and Solarte ahead of him now. But give it another few weeks of quality starts and he'll be competing for 3rd.
