Gameday isn't correct, he's surely over 60 with the command issues he's had so far, probably 70.

Wilner said he was 67 pitches after 5, finished with 72

Great experience for Sanchez. His confidence can help him to throw strikes in the minors.

Yup , Send him down now and lets see who wins the 5th job and BP pieces . Time to get the regular lineup in along with the guys like Gose who are on the cusp . 8 more games left and 7 guys need starts .

@LottOnBaseball

Dickey in minor-league game: 8IP/9H/4ER/HR/5k/102 pitches. Three runs scored on eighth.

Do you really believe that?

To a rather large extent yes. Stuff doesn't match the results, not even close, command is poor and has a nice GB rate to keep people's hopes up high.

I really hope he proves you wrong

Sanchez's A+ numbers last year were bad, and his peripherals this spring are bad. People need to calm down until he dominates AA. He's at least a year away from being an effective major league starter, if he ever does become one.

Agreed. There's lots of hype around him right but when you look deeper than ERA, he looks like a guy getting really lucky. Still walking lots of guys, going into deep counts more often than not.. but getting lots of weak contact as well. Tiring afte 70 pitches today itself says he's not ready for the majors. He needs at least another full year in the minors to just build up his stamina let alone continue to work on pitches and command.

He reminds me of Drabek.

I'm not quite that far on him, I give him props for inducing a lot of weak contact in those hitters counts. His great sinking 2 seamer has really bailed him out. His poise is also much better than Drabek who would seem to let every ball or hard hit rattle him, Sanchez just shakes it off and goes after it on the next one. So, his mental approach is also a plus.

I know Sanchez didn't allow any runs and just 3 hits but 2k's 3 bb's in 5.1 IP is a bit concerning. Not that he is ready or anything. I just thought it wasn't as good as some think.

one, you didn't see him throw, 2 calculating xfip or fip from one game is ridiculous and 3 he was facing a major league roster today and did well.

Really right now what it is for him is command. Everyone knows he has good stuff he just could not keep it in the zone last season. If he can find the strike zone this year he will be a very interesting piece going forward. Everyone knows that this season is going to be a tell tale sign of what we have.

He could also end up GB-ing his way above generally meh peripherals thanks to great stuff, a la Justin Masterson.

Drabek could do that too.

Actually, they both probably will

Everything's gonna be just ok, guys.

Not saying he'll fail like Drabek, just that he's received a lot of hype based on his stuff and low ERA, but the peripherals haven't quite matched. This is a big year for Sanchez. A ~9/3 K/B would make him a top-tier prospect IMO, while another 7/4 would probably drop him out of my top-50. The results need to be there this year.

I understand why he doesn't have a 9+k/9 because he can't control his fastball so why would they chase offspeed pitches.

With that delivery, he'll have to get used to pitching hurt.

So besides the obvious whats your problem with Aaron Sanchez? Do you dislike the fact that He was't traded and Syndergaard was?

I sure as hell do.

I'm a fan of big bodied flamethrowers who have command, so of course I would have liked to have Symdergaard still here. But that has nothing to do with my evaluation of Sanchez. If you watched him ... and didn't know dick-all about his "prospect status" or his statistics or any other potentially biasing data ... you'd say "arm blowout waiting to happen." It's amazing he generates the velo he does, with how he pitches, and the movement is an obvious plus in some respects ... but the fact is, while he looks like he's playing catch while throwing 96 mph, it's all unsupported uber-violent arm action. That thing's going to snap unless he's some kind of mutant.

And uber-arm action motions are highly unrepeatable. You combine that with the movement and you have a guy who is very unlikely to find the zone consistently enough to be a top flight starter, with substantial bust factor, as well.

And then you look at what he's actually done and, well, it reaffirms the issue of command.

If he figures it out and somehow stays healthy, sky's the limit for the kid. But more likely is perpetual teasing and injuries limiting him to a Drabek-like career. And Drabek sucks might mighty balls.

You trade him and get prospect value for him while you can.

That was well thought out, you can go back to your skepticism

Bottomline is that BOTH Syndergaard and Sanchez should be Jays prospects right now. AA got bent over, we all know it and let's hope he knows it, especially if he's to continue as the Jays GM into the future.

What's impressive is the number of young arms they have. Norris seemed to turn a corner last year, he's one to watch this year, remember, he's gonna start at Dunedin, so he could get promoted midseason to AA and start next year in AAA. The younger guys going to Lansing will be key, but you also have Hollon and Castro probably in Bluefields.

No doubt Syndergaard's a stud. I even think some of his stats in 2012 didn't look as good because I seem to remember that he didn't pitch as well when he came into the game as a reliever back when he was being piggybacked. Anyway...
