jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 ID rather have Stroman and Hutch start the year 6th and 7th on depth chart so we have quality depth coming up for the inevitable injuries. That may involve to much planing ahead though for this FO. Expect everything to line up and panic when it doesnt seems to be the MO around here.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Oh yeah, I agree that I hated everything he did except getting Aviles for Farrell, but he boobed that by flipping him for another RP. He even threw in another player! Granted I never thought Gomes would be as good as he it but I did think it odd that AA needed more than just Aviles to land Rogers.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 That's why it's a false dichotomy. Yea I noticed that part afterwards. The sad part is that there are a lot of Toronto media members still spewing that kind of garbage for real

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Oh yeah, I agree that I hated everything he did except getting Aviles for Farrell, but he boobed that by flipping him for another RP. And they lost Gomes... who would look nice hear as catcher and Lawrie insurance.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I think we can still save the season. We can sign Cruz/Morales (whoever the O's don't sign) + Drew (no progress with NYM) + Santana/Capauano (whoever the M's don't sign) before ST and salvage everything. Reyes SS Bautista RF Encarnacion 1B Cruz LF (or something)/Morales DH Rasmus CF Lawrie 3B Lind DH/Melky DH Navarro C Drew 2B Dickey Morrow Buehrle Capauano/Santana Someone looks pretty sexy imo but probably still not in fatass's plans
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Wait, why would we want Cruz or Morales? Because the team is short on talent and that's all there's left.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Wait, why would we want Cruz or Morales? Offencive boost. So when Bautista and/or Reyes go on their typical one month injury vacations we won't have a deficit in offence. If we're going all in, we can offer good priced contracts for them, especially Cruz. Long term this might not be the best solution, but this team isn't good for the long term anyways lol

We're a team that went all in, failed and are subsequently going to do nothing about it. If I didn't know any better ownership is saying, "Hey Alex! Prove that you were right last year!". I know you guys don't like to believe it, but this team is waiting to either fire the current front office or support them if we win. There's no in between here of trying to get better with marginal acquisitions, Alex needs to prove he made the right choice(s).

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 True, but I think we should put that thought to bed. My problem is that I am in constant denial. I refuse to accept that this fat f*** gets paid tonnes more than me for a long time to sit around and do nothing. Nothing! I mean, I doubt he's made any calls to anyone, especially since reports are coming out that he hasn't offered crap to Jimenez and Santana. But then again if the O's signing Jimenez (and if they sign one of Cruz/Morales) and what the Yankees and Red Sox have done haven't woken him up, nothing will.

I don't think Alex is sitting on his hands and not doing anything, there's more to it than that. A) He has no money due to last years splurge. Or perhaps just Rogers being cheap bastards. He has no trade market due to last years overpayment. He simply cannot and will not recover from last year because going forward the price for a SP of substance is his two top prospects. The guy was always a dud in free agency and frankly I'm glad he's not being given permission to spend freely, because we'd probably have nothing to show for it. On a side note, say what you want about MLSE and their lack of success, but this type of management would not stand within that organization. Alex would have been fired and Beeston and his gentlemen's club would've been told to be on their way. Rogers, please sell the team.

No matter what you say about the MLSE they got their s*** together with the Leafs and TFC as soon as money started to come in. No more ********. Also I don't think they're out of money, they can't be, their TV ratings and attendance sky-rocketed last year. Edited February 18, 2014 by fatcowxlive

I think it's worth noting that the last time we saw this kind of disconnect between reports from a player and agent, didn't we find out later that the agent never passed the offer on to the player? I'm not saying that's what's happening here, but food for thought.

The team in it's current form is s***. Then there's the Phaneuf debacle, the Bozak laugher and the aforementioned Clarkson cripler. Not bad for a year on the job.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Rogers, please sell the team. That would be the worst thing that could possibly happen to the Jays.
Nox Verified Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 That would be the worst thing that could possibly happen to the Jays. Worse than Beeston and some cronies buying the team for their retirement side project?

I'm not saying that's what's happening here, but food for thought. Why would the agent do that? As for santana... Last week a report out of the Dominican Republic said the Jays had settled on the same offer for both Jimenez and Santana: three years and US$27-million. In a National Post interview, Santana’s agent, Bean Stringfellow, called that report “completely inaccurate.” As late as last Thursday, GM Alex Anthopoulos said he continued to pursue a pitcher but added: “We just haven’t been able to line up on value, on years and dollars.” Source
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Worse than Beeston and some cronies buying the team for their retirement side project? Well both would involve Rogers selling the team, so ...
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 That would be the worst thing that could possibly happen to the Jays. How so? If someone who actually gives a s*** and knows anything about baseball buys the Jays, that's the best thing that could happen.

You couldn't be more wrong, but it makes for a great example of how abusing stats can lead to irrational thinking. Here's a few realities for you. The Leafs only a few years ago were second last in all of hockey, missed the playoffs every year, had an older roster, had no real depth in their system. Now, they've addressed all of these issues. Rome wasn't built in a day, but very few NHL franchises have rebuilt as well as they have. The fact you say "Bozak laugher" shows how truly delusional you are. Go ahead, tell me what the Leafs W/L record is from 2012-2014 with Bozak in their line up. Now that's a real stat, winning games. And with respect to Clarkson, its far too early to address how he will do on his contract. If he's "crippled" their team then explain to me why they are solidly in the playoff race again. I don't care about some bs stats, there is a guy on here that ranked the Leafs dead last in hockey this year based on his bs forecasting stat. They aren't even close to dead last. What's the point of forecasting anything if your results are so brutally bad ?
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Path 2- Tear down the team, replenish the minors and finish last with a low payroll This doesn't have to be done in the off-season. They will be sellers if they are out of it at the deadline.
