Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 It's about time, now I wonder how many will actually wear one.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Author Posted January 28, 2014 This is better!! http://i01.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/760466513/-child-small-font-b-hat-b-font-perimeter-winter-font-b-hat-b-font-ear.jpg
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Toronto’s J.A. Happ and Toronto’s Alex Cobb were sidelined after being hit last season. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/mlb-approves-protective-cap-for-pitchers/ Something doesn't seem right.. well done sportsnet.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I love this change, but I've always wondered how much this would actually help. Everytime I've seen a ball fly back to the pitcher, the natural instinct of the pitcher has been to turn his face upwards and throw their hands up, actually exposing their face. I see guys take balls off the chin, nose and eye, never seen someone get hit on the forehead.

Here, a practical solution! http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/03/10/article-2290962-188AE552000005DC-539_634x353.jpg

What is the fWAR on a hooters girl?

What is the fWAR on a hooters girl? The bWAR (boobs vs replacement) is high. Always hated the shorts though... And the wings. Edited January 28, 2014 by G-Snarls

Brenner Verified Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Depends on their accuracy. If they can throw over the plate, then 10 WAR/season since batters will be distracted. If they can't hit the zone then -3 WAR since it will only be walks. Who knows though, they might get extreme umpire bias. What if we put the hooters girls on the weighted ball program? Clearly that should address their arm strength.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Didn't get the first picture initially Is the thing in the middle something you wear under a normal cap?
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 This is better!! http://i01.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/760466513/-child-small-font-b-hat-b-font-perimeter-winter-font-b-hat-b-font-ear.jpg So instead of worrying about getting hit in the head they just have to worry about heat stroke.. Can you amagine wearing that in the middle of summer in texas?
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Didn't get the first picture initially Is the thing in the middle something you wear under a normal cap? I think so. Then you'd just have to get an oversized ball cap. Pretty sure it would look just as huge on a real persons head as it does on the foam one above.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Save for McCarthy and Happ lol. I believe McCarthy is on record saying he wouldn't wear something like this. It's not like his odds of getting hit are higher than anyone else's.

flafson Verified Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Did they actually test it for all possible positions to be hit by the ball? The clips i've seen so far show a ball hit the head in the front, we all know it usually hits around the side/ear.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2014 Author Posted January 29, 2014 Looks like she has lots of experience taking balls to the face. That quote was 33% racist!! She's not a bitch, it's just an outgoing girl......wtf, it's the same s***
thatcher Verified Member Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Many players are saying that they won't wear it until it doesn't look so noticeable, but they like where they are going with protection. There creators of the cap noted that many sport equipment has evolved greatly over the years, and it's only a matter of time before this protective hat become the new norm. This blog has a nice overview of baseball equipments evolution- http://www.pitchershelmet.com/evolution-of-athletic-gear/ Not sure how long it'll take the mlb, but it doesn't seem like it would interfere with play, so why not?? My younger sister's softball league makes head/face protection mandatory. As of now I'm not sure if little league baseball is the same way, but I'm sure it will soon be switching over to have the same rules.
derp. Verified Member Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 "doesn't look so noticeable" who cares its your melon. I remember when I started Snowboarding, I wore a helmet (still wear one when I go boarding). you barely saw helmets on the ski hill because they were not "cool" today almost everyone wears a helmet no matter what they look like because people realize your head is worth protecting. Who cares what the protective helmets for pitcher look like, if it protects your head from 100 mph ball then I think it should be worn.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Good on Torres. I hope he gets a big endorsement deal out of this, safety over vanity. Although he didn't have great results yesterday with it on.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 I feel like that hat would be insanely uncomfortable.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 ROFL. Looks Photoshopped. Good on him though.
