Corbin

Miley

Cahill

McCarthy

Arroyo

Bradley

Delgado

Hudson (DL)

The DBacks pitching depth chart is now antifragile, to a small extent - they could actually stand to benefit from a certain amount of injury shock.

Unpredictable injury to Arroyo = Bradley's a chance to breakout, X WAR upgrade for Arizona?

Does this help value out the Santana/Ubaldo contract at all? ie. if Arroyo is worth $11+ mil a year, Santana/Ubaldo is worth...xxx?

Not really, Arroyo's profile is a lot different. If anything it helps their case since Arroyo might have gotten more than expected, and now $13M for someone like Ubaldo might be looked at as kind of cheap in comparison to Arroyo.

But the Garza deal is a better rough barometer. Much better. Take the injury discount that was applied to Garza and rename it the draftpick discount to apply it to Ubaldo or poopface.

Guy who works for the team just told me that AA is trying to get Drew and TWO pitchers (Burnett + one of the others) to all sign together, at the same time. Some big splash media show thing.

... not.

Maybe the pitching market isn't as weak as people were letting on?

Agreed, the Morosi's, Rosenthal's, etc. and by relation the Wilner's, Davidi's, Nicholson-Ben-Smith-Clark-Trudeau-Harper's and Blairs of the Toronto baseball world are making it seem like the longer the market draws out, the lower the prices are driven down, and at whatever number AA may sign one of these guys at (if at all), they're setting up the narrative of "BOY GENIUS AA PERFECTLY PLAYS THE MARKET...there were a lot of doubters....they were proven wrong...blah blah" But in reality, there was always a floor. The agents know it, players know it, and GM's know it. Its just a game of chicken. People who are saying that prices are tumbling, players better take what they can get, draft pick this, shrinking market that...are sorely misleaded. These teams know what it takes, the players/agents know what it will take. If no one blinks, it will get done at that value. It really isnt as weak as people are letting on.

this is why i think aa sits on his ass.

Don't forget Spruill. Like the signing, now that Skaggs and Holmberg are gone it provides some insurance innings for Bradley and Hudson, but that contract is f***ing awful.

Your sources didn't mention anything about "hard throwing RP and Veteran present"

SATURDAY: It's only "a matter of time" before the Mariners agree to terms with Cruz, industry sources tell Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune (on Twitter).

1. Miller (SS)

2. Ackley (OF)

3. Cano (2B)

4. Cruz (OF)

5. Hart (DH)

6. Seager (3B)

7. Smoak (1B) or Morrison (1B)

8. Morrison (OF) or Saunders (OF)

9. Zunino ©

Bench: Saunders (OF) or Smoak (1B), Franklin (2B), Buck ©, Montero (1B/DH), Guti (OF), Bloomqvist (anywhere)

They will put up a fight in their division, I love their bench. When the game is close they can replace their poor d.

Paul Maholm is signing a f***ing minor league deal?

Looks like it is a buyer's market for pitching, despite what KevTo gave to Bronson "BP" Arroyo.

Maholm > Arroyo

Da fuq? Maholm is definitely a superior pitcher to Arroyo.

How do the Astros not offer him like, 2/8 to be their #4?

Maholm > Arroyo

I'm not sure I agree with that. I think Arroyo's durability and consistency pushes him ahead a little. They're very similar pitchers though. You have to think it's a minor league deal with something like an 8M guarantee if he makes the team or something (ie, they need to do some roster juggling before they add him to the 40 man).

Not a huge gap but I'd rather have Maholm, biggest factor being age.

I wonder if the Twins regret the contract they gave Pelfrey.

And Hughes.

And Nolasco...

Maybe.

Maholm signs with the Dodgers.....one more off the board.

Zero reason why we couldn't have given Maholm a major league deal to be in the back end of the rotation.

This is getting ridiculous.

I still think there's a lot more to this. I think it'll be a high salary for making the team (and a verbal guarantee that he will), and the Dodgers just need to clear some room on the 40 man this spring before adding him.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that next year a few more guys just accept their qualifying offers.

I know they're likely to change the rules but how soon?

I really think they will too. Unless the player is truly near the top of their position I just don't see teams wanting to give up compensation for them. 2nd tier players like Kendrys Morales and Cruz should have accepted the QO and I could see next years free agent class of 2nd tier position players going on the side of caution. However, the offseason is not over.

Wow. Draft pick compensation AND an opt out clause after 1 year?!?!?

GTFO

He'd have to take the league minimum in 2014 to get that lol.

Interesting JFaS. Doesn't surprise me but cool that it can be proven.

Any data on strike zone size by caliber of player because it often seems like some elite players get a slight benefit of the doubt.

Yeah. I think we can confidently predict that no team will give him that opt out clause after 1 year.

As much as I want us to get him and as much as I generally want bad things to happen to the Red Sox, I'd love to see him go crawling back there for 10 or 12M on a 1 year deal.
