They might not be great this year but they could be in good shape in a few years IF run properly.

They need at least 2 of their 4 young pitchers turn out to be something

 

None of their acquisitions have been risky.. minus cano but that is many years away.

 

Run properly doesn't include giving someone an astronomical amount of money at a position of strength, then proceed to sign every player they could find who doesn't have the ability to play in the field and play them at even harder positions than they normally might occupy.

None of their other signings have been long term. I don't think they were ever going for it this year. Give a year for their pitchers to develop, and compete in the 1-2 years. After their tv deal, they should have lots of money available.

 

They just need to make some smart trades, and not sign Cruz

Well that would fit right in line with their plan to let Morrison/Hart butcher LF all year. Or are they just going to have like 5 DH's...? I honestly have no idea how their team is supposed to fit together.

Actually, the real reason the Rays signed Bedard is because Hellickson is out until May, so the Rays need depth in Durham, with Odorizzi expected to be the 5th starter until Hellickson returns. It has nothing to do with David Price.
