burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 A Rod is "only" costing them 21M next year. And the year after that. and the year after that. LOL Theres no way he comes back to play for the Yankees. Hes so much of a distraction they are better off buying him out.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Would readily trade AROD for Reyes and Romero AROD might still have something to prove and something left. Huge Upside
BTS Community Moderator Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Would readily trade AROD for Reyes and Romero AROD might still have something to prove and something left. Huge Upside wat Reyes is still a legit 3-win player. There's a decent chance A-Rod is replacement level.

I dont know anything about your fancy stats To me its fully possible that AROD could come back and have 2-3 season of .850 OPS along with decent defense at 3rd

His body can't produce testosterone anymore which is why it's literally impossible for him to get off the juice. He'll struggle to ever test cleanly again. His contract is a complete write off. It's a lot more likely that he's a league average bat with below-average defense at 3B. Guy was 14% above-average offensively in 2012 and 2013, and you have to expect he's lost some bat speed since.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 I give 5/60 in a blink of an eye. $12M AAV is very reasonable, though do you think he holds that value later on in the deal? He's going to be 32 next season.

I would not say Reyes is a legit 3 win player. He is at 2.4 right now and if you use DRS instead of UZR he isn't even worth 2 wins. The defence has dragged him down so much he likely doesn't reach 3 WAR ever again.

Wasn't he at 2.9 at one point?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Jesus. Wasn't he at 2.9 at one point? I think he was, but his wRC+ is now at 101, so with the laughable range and literally league average offense it's not looking good. I also wouldn't be surprised if his baserunning has taken a hit, despite the obvious decline he still jogs more than half the time.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Jesus. Wasn't he at 2.9 at one point? The latest UZR update cost him like 3 or 4 runs. That Boston game was brutal because he cost his team at least 4 hits. I think you have to move that contract if you even get the slimmest of chances because next year he could be 40 million of dead money.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 KC's playoff hopes taking a big hit tonight, as the Tigers are up 3-0 early on. A loss tonight and KC sinks out of a playoff spot, pending results from the A's and Mariners. And the Yanks look done... down 3-0 to Tampa. Oh, and no Smyly this weekend... he has been shut down (innings).

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Boy, start printing playoff tix in Baltimore already! The O's are up 4-0 on Boston..
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Wow check this play out. Three balls thrown away by the Dodgers in one play and a very honest, non-homerish call by Vin Scully http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/gotta-see-it-sloppy-dodgers-disappoint-scully/ Just watched this LOL

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Gentry and Sanchez collided: John Hickey @JHickey3 Craig Gentry sitting up as #Athletics tend to him. Now he's coming out of the game. Not good news for an A's team trying to hold off Seattle.

BTS Community Moderator Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 In the middle of a playoff run, Lloyd McClendon hits Endy Chavez 2nd. That organization is so difficult to like.

And thats why I don't mind having Gibbons. All managers will make dumb moves, its who makes the least dumb moves is the guy you want.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Gibbons hit Kawasaki second... At that time IIRC it wasn't that bad. We had like 5 AAA players in the lineup.
