jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 An update on Cuban signee by the Red Sox Rusney Castillo: 1-5, 1BB, 1K in GCL. Heading to AA next..
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Holland's a beast!! 41 saves shows it, plus he's on a 1st place team, unlike Kimbrel, whose Atlanta Braves may miss the playoffs because of their offensive ineptitude.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 (edited) Mike and Mike on ESPN this morning brought up two fascinating tidbits of baseball history this morning in light of the Phillies combined no hitter and Adam Dumn hitting a HR in his first at bat for the A's The first combined no hitter in MLB history? 1917. Babe Ruth was 22 years old, started a game for the Red Sox. He walked the first batter, then got ejected from the game, and someone else came in an retired the next 26 batters in route to a team no hitter. Ruth didn't record a single out. Three other players in MLB history with > 450 career HR got traded and hit a HR in their first at bat for their new team. Who? Babe Ruth, Willie Mays and Frank Robinson. HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 It's a shame Dunn wants to retire. I wanted him to get to 500 and watch people go crazy and insult each other about his HOF chances
Sorrow Verified Member Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 I knew Phil Hughes was having a good season for the Twins, I didn't realize how good. 5.3 fWAR, 0.75 BB/9IP. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=7450&position=P

Best free agent SP signing of last off season? Who would have thought.

Nobody wanted him in the DDL league before the season started. I think I even offered Hughes for Rasmus at some point.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 IE: YANKS ARE DUMN!! cf Pretty much. Wasting money on Ellsbury when they have Gardner, not resigning Cano, not moving down/benching Jeter, signing McCann when they already had Cervelli, John Ryan Murphy, and Gary Sanchez in the system, signing an aging Beltran, and dangerously Scott Proctoring Dellin Betances (80 IP in 60 appearances.. makes me wonder if his arm will fall off, requiring TJS next season after such overuse.) Scott Proctoring: Overuse of an arm on the Yankees frequently, such as Scott Proctor in 2006, who was used 80 times for 102.1 IP by Joe Torre. He was never the same after that season.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Well, the Yanks playoff hopes are taking a major hit so far, as the Red Sox are pouncing on Shane Greene early on. 2-0 Boston.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 How about Mookie Betts? Already has a hit and a run scored. WHY didn't Boston call him up sooner instead of leaving JBJ and his low average in the lineup everyday? Now if they could do the same with putting Betts at 3B (if he can play it), considering the arrival of Rusney Castillo, and dumping Middlebrooks.. who continues to hurt the team.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Carlos Santana with a HR of Kyle Lobstein, 2-0 Indians.

LMAO weren't you saying he should be sent down?
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 LMAO weren't you saying he should be sent down? That was Bogaerts, not Betts. At least Betts got AAA seasoning.. and is probably their best option at CF until Castillo arrives, if he does.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 THE Mookie Betts is now slashing .280/.356/.473/.829 for the year. Can he stay up now? That was earlier in the season when he was first called up that I thought he needed more AAA seasoning. Thankfully, Boston actually did send him down to work on stuff.. and it's now showing in his 2nd go-around. BTW, 3-4 tonight with a solo HR. Good thing for roster expansion.. Yanks are likely going to use a lot of pitchers tonight.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Cleveland still up 2-1, as the Tigers are struggling to hit with RISP tonight.. 9 hits and only 1 run!
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 McCann just earned a special place in my heart. He actually bunted his way on v. the shift. It's like he's a normal, functioning human being. somewhere, Colby Lewis is fuming
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Gardner just got ejected in the Red Sox/Yankees game arguing balls and strikes.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Torii Hunter kills another Tigers rally.. Indians still ahead 2-1. Important game.. a Indians win and the Jays could be 4.5 back.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Alex Avila hurt. Left the game after taking foul tips off the mask, and could be a potential concussion. This could be a major blow to the Tigers playoff hopes if he's out for a period of time.. Holaday is a huge downgrade from Avila, and James McCann is unproven.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Here's some Vines on Avila's concussion.. he's going to be gone a while. Tigers fans better get used to Holaday everyday (with James McCann backing up) https://vine.co/v/OuueejJrEtL
