Thank f***ing jeebus I have absolutely no intention whatsoever to go into any physics-resembling program.

 

You may find courses you liked in HS you hate in university, and vice versa. Sometimes the teacher / prof makes all the difference too. I agree with kcjaysfan, some of the courses I enjoyed the most were physics, and I wasn't a physics major (I took a number of them for fun, seriously). Also, the boundary between some of the upper level math and physics courses kind of gets muddied. Whether you consider a course math or physics is often determined by whether you focus more on the underlying equations or more on the physical interpretation.

 

Also, remember that each field has many different branches. Some of those branches you may detest, and some you may absolutely love. In HS you don't really get to see them.

Everyone should take a physics course in university, regardless of your degree. It's good for you.

I am indeed 16. And to go with the seeming thread topic in the past few pages, I'm also a year ahead in school so I'll be graduating earlier than everyone at my age, it feels good to be me, I'm hoping to take Computer Science.

As a person that has experienced two education systems, what do you find so hard/annoying/boring about Geography, I personally like it; then again, the only real course I've ever strongly disliked has been visual arts, I like just about every subject.

I'm not a particularly nature-y person and I never really learned as much about geography as others did in early education so i've always been a bit behind in terms of understanding it, and i'm just generally bad at it.

 

I was getting 71, and then I got an 84 on a rather large assignment. That should improve my mark, right? Nope, still 71. Ugh.

I TA a few first year engineering classes, and I've come across a handful of students who have had a great deal of difficulty with basic high school level algebra questions. I was in my office this past semester at McMaster, and one visibly upset student came to me complaining about the grade he received on his test. I never even saw this guy during tutorials, but anyway I thought I'd address his concerns to the best of my abilities. His complaint had to do with a question involving integration by parts and substitution. I looked at the solution he put down on the test to that integration problem, and he basically just differentiated the original function, so I was a little perplexed as to why he was upset over his grade. When I started to go over the proper solution with him, he pointed to the integration symbol and stated "what's that?" lol.

Only thing i do know, people who come from HS to university get a serious shock about the difference in difficulty.

My professor told us that the first year students are doing so bad that the faculty is adjusting the courses so more people manage to pass them. One of the things they do, they give marks for showing up in class, how stupid is that?

I remember a guy coming up to me and asking me "what's a thesis?" when he needed some assistance with a paper. I mean like really?

They don't thats the problem. I do part time security work at a commercial building in DT Toronto and the incompetence I witness every week by the lawyers/finance employees is pretty astonishing. Just last Saturday I saw a cooperate lawyer come with a loaded dolly and rather than use the automatic door, the idiot ATTEMPTED to use the revolving doors. Dumbass got stuck there for 15 minutes.

Yeah but for all you know that guy is a law genius. He may also be a total idiot. I'm not saying you're wrong about some of the people in your building but that's kind of a poor example. Some people are geniuses in their field and yes surpisingly inept at doing day to day practical things.
