John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Technically Ohka hasn't played for Toronto twice yet in the majors.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Maybe I'm reading something wrong, but i don't see ducey playing two different times for Montreal, ditto Ohka. You are. Read this again: Does this mean Ohka becomes the first and only player to ever play for the Expos once and Jays twice?
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Author Posted December 12, 2013 Shawn Hill too: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/hillsh01.shtml (2011 was spent in Marlins org.)
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 could this be much more to do with getting Jimenez catching a knuckle-baller?

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Author Posted December 12, 2013 If you're talking about franchises, then Matt Stairs counts in the other direction (once Blue Jays, twice Expos/Nats).
kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 If you're talking about franchises, then Matt Stairs counts in the other direction (once Blue Jays, twice Expos/Nats). Along with Miguel Batista, and Tony Batista.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Author Posted December 12, 2013 Along with Miguel Batista, and Tony Batista. Seven players have played for the Blue Jays, Nationals and Expos: Shawn Hill, Tomo Ohka, Jon Rauch, Matt Stairs, Brad Wilkerson, and the Batistas.

Does this mean Ohka becomes the first and only player to ever play for the Expos once and Jays twice? No harm from this signing though, and makes perfect sense to sign where a knuckleballer can actually help him. I'd love for the Jays to do their 5k-freeing-up-draft-slot-bonus signing on a college guy with great pitchability but subpar stuff, with the express purpose of turning him into a knuckleballer. Two very smart posts.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 at least the fat greek is doing something other than eating twinkies in the fat cave
flafson Verified Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Looks like Dickey is about to open a knuckleball school in Toronto...
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Who knows, maybe he'll get better when Dickeyed.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Here's his player profile on the website http://www.t-thunderbirds.jp/players_info/players/pitcher/#ohka arigato gomenasai
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 I like this, low risk/high reward type of deal. Absolutely If he looks good and helps the ckub , fantastic If he doesn't, no loss of significant money or any prospects I'm all for this
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 So does anyone know any scouting reports or #'s ever since Ohka tinkered with the knuckleball?
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 could this be much more to do with getting Jimenez catching a knuckle-baller? If the FO made this signing with this in mind... then it's pretty good forward thinking. Of course the chance of this is likely slim.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Stepping stone to signing Tanaka?? #WishfulThinking
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Author Posted December 12, 2013 I love it! Exactly what we should be doing.
flafson Verified Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 So now we are experts in the knuckleball? Maybe now he will close the dome when Dickey plays...
ReturnOfTheYeti Verified Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 And now Josh Banks has rejoined the organization - as a knuckleballer. Organizational philosophy I guess?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 7 wins, 7 losses in japan semi pro league but...............
IBTrini Verified Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 People are delusional if they think a 37 year old out of baseball for 4 years is going to help this club Maybe he will. Help us secure 4th place Being too tunnel-visioned essentially ensures a person is not flexible enough to break free from limitations. Most teams have limitations however with this team being in Canada, still playing on turf, finishing in the cellar position etc does not bode well for Not every move should be based solely on it having a direct impact at the MLB level for it to be seen either as a good or bad move. Some MiLB moves do fall into a grey-area/category - the individual does not have to be above replacement level to directly benefit the MLB team. If a particular move fills a need (MLB/MiLB), either directly or indirectly, in the long run then it should also be looked at from that perspective. Most of the times the fans, and even the media as they continually show especially around this time, do not have a clue as to what the thinking was behind a particular move/rumour. In my mind, TheHurl provided an excellent example of outside-the-box thinking for such a move: could this be much more to do with getting Jimenez catching a knuckle-baller? Some MiLB moves are just roster fillers, MiLB and MLB (non-elite) depth, or to provide mentor-ship etc and as such should not be judged in isolation. If the reasoning behind the move is ever made public, which will surprise the hell out of me, we will then be able to see whether the decision was flawed or not. I am not saying Anthopoulos has not made errors because, in hindsight, it is obvious he has - everyone makes mistakes.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 I love it! Exactly what we should be doing. I love this! As I said earlier, hopefully this extends to the draft rather than just throwing away those picks meant to free up draft budget.
