Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Felix Iwakuma Garza Colon Walker Trade options/depth: Maurer, Paxton, Ramirez Get it done mariners!
imsorry4beatinU Verified Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Doesn't Mariners have a new TV deal that is around in the Billions?

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Doesn't Mariners have a new TV deal that is around in the Billions? the mariners beyond Felix and now Cano don't have a lot of dollars committed...they have cash to spend..a lot of young cheap players there...
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 They signed a new tv deal last year at about 2 billion

eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Colon would fit in very well in Seattle.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Colon would fit in very well in Seattle. Are you kidding. Have you seen the size of that man? He does fit very well in to anywhere... Hehehe But seriously big ballpark is really good for him.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Don't know the financial details, though on a one-year contract and pitching in that big ballpark, its a good signing for the Mariners if he stays healthy.
8D Verified Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Colong gonna light it up in that park!!!
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Seattle going all in This is not called going all in. This is called destroying a franchise by rushing s***. What the f*** does Cano bring to the team in the next few years? The dude went from a lefty-launching pad to an offencive deadzone. His numbers will plummet, and Seattle will only be a .500 team. They still have holes all over the place... next thing you know, Seattle will start trading their prospects so they can do well before Cano starts declining.

If they are willing to spend money, they can build a decent competitive team without giving up much of their farm. Sign another top bat, and pitcher, and then just add walker to the package for price. ^ beat me to it

His career OPS away from home is higher than it is at home......last year his ops at home was .909 away was .889....I think he's going to be fine...
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 A lot of jays fans are acting with jealousy Just bc our owners are making a good 50-60 mil a year in profits We made the move oo compete, too bad we went the way of money and selling our farm.. f***
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Triple AAA did his best Wow Much dumb
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 You have to go for it some time. Seattle has loads of money to burn and a mediocre farm system. Why spend another year waiting for nothing to happen? I like this move a lot. The name of the game is winning and this will help Seattle do that. And not at the cost of young players or payroll inflexibility. Nothing wrong with spending money, but this signing was terrible. The M's arent making the playoffs next year, even if they do trade for Price
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 AAV is fine, length is silly for the Mariners. I don't blame Cano at all, all it takes is one GM to feel like they need to overpay and ... This is the result
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Yup. Spending $240 million on a 31-year old who figures to provide wins 78-81 is a horrrible, horrible move. The length is ridiculous but no way this cripples them. The mariners are flush with cash and have very little commitment beyond Cano & Hernandez. If they add 2 more ridiculous contracts then we have a problem
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 They didnt trade future all stars Cano is better then dickey Reyes and burleh put together you're joking right?
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 It amazes me how some people don't consider money an asset.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Lots of people in this thread dead certain that the Mariners' 2020 payroll is infinite. Someone should probably inform their ownership. Assuming they don't make any more drastic contract offers, they don't have a lot of money committed.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 That really shouldn't factor in to an assessment of a 10-year contract though. $25 million for Cano may fit nicely in 2014 or 2015, but nobody really knows what the implications of owing 5/125 to a 26-year old Cano are going to be. FWIW, I don't necessarily hate the terms - I hate the terms for a team that even with Cano projects at something like 81 wins in 2014. This is not a good team. I 100% agree this team has a lot of work to do to be even competitive and by the time they are the payroll will be bloated. I have no believe in Jack Z to make shrewd moves and keep young cheap controllable assets to alleviate the rising costs of the trade market & free agency
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 How haved the destroyed their franchise? They are only spending money. Haven't sacrificed prospects or other non cash assets If they dont spend the money its in the owners pockets anyways Because this is just the beginning. The M's have WAY too many holes for just the FA to fix. They also just signed 31 year old cano. 31. The window of his prime is closing quickly. Since the FA market won't fill their various needs for a catcher, first baseman, and their entire outfield, they will have to go the trade route. AA isn't the only manager to make stupid moves when he has a plethora of prospects.

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 No DH, 1B, LF, CF, RF? Better sign Cano and try to win now! Exactly. This is probably going to be worse than what the Jays did IMO, because at least we're not locked into this type of a contract. They're obviously going to start trading for other aging big-contract players by moving farm players, and you're going to get another Jays situation.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 35 according to Ang, lol lol imagine if he is 35.... Jesus lol
