Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 What does the number 30 have to do with anything? Are there 30 No. 1 starters in all of baseball? Technically, yes. There are 30 #1 starters in baseball. I know what you mean though, "ace ace" as in an elite #1 option. And no, Fister isn't one of those. He's obviously not on the same level as the list you presented, but will definitely be a reliable source for great production going into next season.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I can't believe Dombrowski has done this.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Fielder and Fister gone in one week WOW

Where did I say Fister wasn't going to be "a reliable source for great production going into next season?" I said he was a great pitcher. I just don't consider him close to being an ace.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Really? Apparently we're supposed to be in on every player and prospect.
Frag Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Talk about a Domb move by Dumbrowski... wait...

Do you or do you not consider him a top 30 pitcher?
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Talk about a Domb move by Dumbrowski... wait... I'm sure there are a few GMs scratching their head right now....but I have a feeling there was zero chance Fister was going to be traded to a contending team in the AL....
flafson Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Maybe Fister told the Tigers he wanted to move to D.C (or in the area) and they were the only NL team that made sense so they shopped him low.
GNick Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I'd rather traded for Fister than Shark
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 "We need to give Smyly a rotation spot and sign Scherzer, better give away Fister." We need more payroll space, better trade a guy who projects to be worth 3x his contract.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 "We need to give Smyly a rotation spot and sign Scherzer, better give away Fister." What doesn't make sense to me, is that both Porcello and Fister probably make about the same next year. Unless Detroit's front office really has a thing for one of those guys they got in return, there has to be more to it. They could have dumped the salary just as easily with Porcello and probably gotten an equal return.
mitchf Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Sometimes you wonder what goes on behind the scenes... I mean this just looks nonsensical. You can't really even try to defend or justify it. Good job by the Nationals?
Randy The Robot Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Guys I would take ahead of Fister in 2014: Kershaw, Scherzer, Wainwright, Hamels, Hernandez, Darvish, Bumgarner, Verlander, Lee, Sale, Latos, Price, Fernandez, Bailey, Gonzalez, Strasburg, Greinke. So he's not an elite No. 1 starter, but he's a definite "top of the rotation" starter. A durable #2, as Dinger put it. Latos? Meh.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 http://www.diehardsport.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Fister.gif The guy has brain problems, trade him.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 What the f***, what the hell did the Tigers get for Fister? If that's all it took, I'm f***ing pissed that the Blue Jays didn't offer them twice as much.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 So you can name 30 pitchers who will outperform Fister next year? Imagine being the team with the 30th best pitcher/ace (in your world)? It would be just like the team with the best pitcher.

GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I wouldn't have minded if we acquired Fister... Seeing as there's GM's who's cock you'd lap at....did you notice they didn't get him either? Stop being a f***ing retard.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Imagine being the team with the 30th best pitcher/ace (in your world)? It would be just like the team with the best pitcher. Uh oh, someone's definition of ace doesn't match up with Blart's. There's gonna be trouble!!
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 What does the number 30 have to do with anything? Are there 30 No. 1 starters in all of baseball? In terms of an elite No. 1 starter, there aren't many around. I consider guys like Kershaw, Hernandez, Wainwright, Verlander etc. as true No. 1 starters. Apparently s*** pitchers are just as good as the actual aces of baseball.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Uh oh, someone's definition of ace doesn't match up with Blart's. There's gonna be trouble!! There is?
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Apparently s*** pitchers are just as good as the actual aces of baseball. Lol apparently the 30th best pitcher in baseball is "s***". You're an idiot.
BabbaGanoush Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Apparently s*** pitchers are just as good as the actual aces of baseball. The f*** is wrong with you?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 So I guess that means Bud Norris all these years has been an ace and No. 1 starter with the Astros? When I use the word "ace" or "No. 1 starter," I'm not using them in the terms of a team's rotation. I'm using them in my own evaluations of pitchers and what they are. For example Norris was the "ace" of Houston's rotation, though do I consider him a true No. 1 starter - nope. A no. 1 starter is by definition a top 30 starter (not necessarily tops on his team just a player who would be one if talent were distributed evenly), an ace is probably something like top 10, top 15 at most. I don't think you can use the terms interchangeably.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Lol apparently the 30th best pitcher in baseball is "s***". You're an idiot. Not s***, but not even close to the best.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 The f*** is wrong with you? Tired of people who class an ace as a Team's best pitcher or creatively use the Top 30 to deem someone an ace. Lame.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 "Ace" was first used to identify the best pitcher on a team. Either way, who cares.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 The f*** is wrong with you? Pre-andropause syndrome.
