What does the number 30 have to do with anything? Are there 30 No. 1 starters in all of baseball?

Technically, yes. There are 30 #1 starters in baseball. I know what you mean though, "ace ace" as in an elite #1 option. And no, Fister isn't one of those. He's obviously not on the same level as the list you presented, but will definitely be a reliable source for great production going into next season.

Where did I say Fister wasn't going to be "a reliable source for great production going into next season?" I said he was a great pitcher. I just don't consider him close to being an ace.

By definition of the term you are using, you're saying you don't consider Fister a top 30 pitcher for next year. Do you or do you not consider him a top 30 pitcher?

Talk about a Domb move by Dumbrowski... wait...

I'm sure there are a few GMs scratching their head right now....but I have a feeling there was zero chance Fister was going to be traded to a contending team in the AL....

Maybe Fister told the Tigers he wanted to move to D.C (or in the area) and they were the only NL team that made sense so they shopped him low.

"We need to give Smyly a rotation spot and sign Scherzer, better give away Fister."

We need more payroll space, better trade a guy who projects to be worth 3x his contract.

What doesn't make sense to me, is that both Porcello and Fister probably make about the same next year. Unless Detroit's front office really has a thing for one of those guys they got in return, there has to be more to it. They could have dumped the salary just as easily with Porcello and probably gotten an equal return.

Sometimes you wonder what goes on behind the scenes... I mean this just looks nonsensical. You can't really even try to defend or justify it. Good job by the Nationals?

Guys I would take ahead of Fister in 2014: Kershaw, Scherzer, Wainwright, Hamels, Hernandez, Darvish, Bumgarner, Verlander, Lee, Sale, Latos, Price, Fernandez, Bailey, Gonzalez, Strasburg, Greinke.

So he's not an elite No. 1 starter, but he's a definite "top of the rotation" starter. A durable #2, as Dinger put it.

Latos? Meh.

So you can name 30 pitchers who will outperform Fister next year?

Imagine being the team with the 30th best pitcher/ace (in your world)? It would be just like the team with the best pitcher.

I wouldn't have minded if we acquired Fister...

Seeing as there's GM's who's cock you'd lap at....did you notice they didn't get him either?

Stop being a f***ing retard.

Uh oh, someone's definition of ace doesn't match up with Blart's. There's gonna be trouble!!

Apparently s*** pitchers are just as good as the actual aces of baseball.

Lol apparently the 30th best pitcher in baseball is "s***". You're an idiot.

So I guess that means Bud Norris all these years has been an ace and No. 1 starter with the Astros?

When I use the word "ace" or "No. 1 starter," I'm not using them in the terms of a team's rotation. I'm using them in my own evaluations of pitchers and what they are. For example Norris was the "ace" of Houston's rotation, though do I consider him a true No. 1 starter - nope.

A no. 1 starter is by definition a top 30 starter (not necessarily tops on his team just a player who would be one if talent were distributed evenly), an ace is probably something like top 10, top 15 at most. I don't think you can use the terms interchangeably.
