About a year has passed since this thread was made, and I think it needs a bump.

I post a little, but read almost every post on this site. Lately, I'm seeing more and more posters accuse new posters of being "dogg" "zee" "CHP" or whoever they think of, instead of actually taking the time to explain to them why their ideas are farfetched (and lots of the times they are).

If people want this board to grow, putting down new posters isn't going to help. Unless everyone is content with the merry go round that each thread becomes (I'm looking at you, Moogy), we need to encourage new posters to post, instead of tearing them down instantly when they do decide to post.

I love this board, and I want to continue to see it grow. With the signing of Martin, new members were bound to find their way here. If there are more moves, there will more likely be an even greater influx of posters. Let's welcome them, instead of degrade them.

People whined that new members weren't coming here because I was chasing them away. I was suspended, and stayed away much longer than my suspension, in large part to see how many new members arrived, and how the board evolved. And if conversation picked up. And if former "board regulars" returned.

None of that happened.

The real problem is the inability to have a diversity of opinions. The hive, essentially. The kids and their statistics. Few "newbies" want to be shat on for saying something that isn't supported by WAR or FIP, or the analysis du jour. And the board regulars think they're too school for cool (here's where someone points out I messed that up), and shouldn't have to suffer such idiocy as suggesting something outside of the box. And they can't handle criticism of their own points, largely because they don't understand what the f*** they're saying in the first place (Step 1: wait for fangraphs article to tell you what to think; 2. regurgitate here; 3. wear s***** smirk; 4. respond to non-fangraphs-based opinions with intentional misspellings, so they know their place; 5. act appalled, like someone is attacking your family when someone legitimately questions you on the finer points).

And, yes, the kids constantly saying someone is someone else has got to go. Save the board drama for your neglectful mama.

For clarification, I'm not saying you're driving them away.

Yes, I agree the biggest problem is the lack of diversity in opinions. But if people chase away new members, there isn't much hope that someone will come along with a different point of view to counter with.

What I'm saying is, posters accusing people of being dogg, zee or any other of the whacked persona's we've seen on these boards will make them feel uncomfotable, especially because they don't know who these people (?) are, or who they're being compared to.

I see the error in my ways but what if I'm so sure a "new poster" is not actually a new poster?

I guess if you can prove it with matching IP addresses I'd be able to see your point of view.

On the old board, I was falsely accused as "zee" for a while haha (by fatcow of all people, I think he was 7?), all because I had a nickname that was similar that I used as my username. I agree, that sometimes we see "new" users slip up and give away that they're someone we know, but until they do, I think giving them the benefit of the doubt is only fair.

Then report the person using the http://i.gyazo.com/60a8efbceaeeaf7da16ac47be9f77d1e.png icon found at the bottom left of every post, or PM a moderator directly and let them take care of it.

Mods hate the trolls more than you or anyone else here, because they're the ones that receive increased work and stress by having to deal with them.

I'd also point out that your join date is September 2014 and you already have 450 posts and claim to know enough about everyone here to recognize their writing patterns. So no offence but you have absolutely no right to be accusing others of being dupes when you're young enough here to have that easily turned back on you.

Previous account was BigJohn. He was found out pretty early on. Nice job, Troll Hunters.

LongTimeReader is "You're So Defeated"?!? Good stuff.

Honestly, I don't care. You come on, you post, and get judged based on posts. If you have an issue with another poster, you take it to the mods, through reporting the post or PM'ing them.

Unless they're spamming the site, or just a terrible, actual troll (and the definition of trolling here is so obtuse, that we need to have a whole class on "what is trolling?"), no one should give a s*** if someone is another account. And, at the same time, folks with "new" names should just be upfront about it, and post like a reasonable person.

Of course, with kids involved, this is easier said than done.

It's really too bad that thread is gone now. At least it seems to stand the test of time in your memory.

I am new, and for the most part people have been good so far, did get accused of being someone after my first post though, which I found odd, there are a lot of aggressive trolls here but as long as you don't get goaded in by there insults it's fine. The mods seem really laid back.
