kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 You can't be serious. Are you becoming one of the Stache,s groupies ? Yes I am serious . Just like I think JPA will hit someday in the majors I don,t think with health this is a 75 to 78 win team . Sure it is bad but why can,t the Jays get as lucky as the Red Sox were this year health wise. Healthy this team would win 80 games . Healthy we have hutch , Drabek etc at AAA plus all the rest I mentioned
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 I was low when I said 75-80. Probably they're a projected 80-84 win team, as JFaS pointed out. So they need to add 8-12 wins with likely ~$18 million in payroll space, no superfluous non-bullpen major league players, and only two good trade chips left on the farm. If it seems like I'm always negative, its because that's a very, very tall order for a GM that hasn't shown he understands how to efficiently add wins and maximize the roster. DeRosa facilitated the AA's Job with his retire today. AA must add talent to the roster but wisely ........It's not just add, Jays must add quality players.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 The thought that the Jays starting rotation in 2013 actually benefited from positive pitch framing is a scary truth that I was hoping wasn't true. I was wishing that would be one of the easiest things to improve but short of signing one of the top 3 free agent catchers, it's likely to get worse.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 It's not as doom and gloom as many are trying to paint Ken. This team is in a questionable spot right now, but it can be fixed with some savvy moves. As for payroll, I have been saying for quite some time I expect it to see a big jump and I still stand by that. If AA does indeed have the money that I think he does, he will be active on the FA market, plus dealing some excess BP pieces and signing some key short term pieces like a Ruiz for example could set this team up in a better position moving forward. I still have some faith in AA even if most want him gone. This will be his make or break year and it will probably end in epic fashion one way or the other. I will be forever pissed at last years gutting of the minors but I firmly believe AA was pushed in that direction so I'm not dumping him yet . With health and 3 good additions this team could be competitive but it,ll take the same luck that Boston had last year where everything went right for them . I still start to gut this team in July if we aren't solidly in the race .
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Happ mos def out Seems likely What a waste of a trade he was. Wow.

They probably will trade off some contracts if this team isn't in it, but I highly doubt we see a full rebuild until the following year. I just don't expect this team to be this bad again. AA is going to put everything into getting this team into contention and if he fails, then it's going to be a regime change anyways, so the new GM likely gets to gut this thing.

Now I totally agree with that post. Not sure what the payroll space . Tall order , fixable but we realistically need to get as lucky as Boston did this year and f***ing Health is key as there is absolutely NO positional depth

kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Yeah, it's pretty terrifying. It's best for this team that JFaS has made a horrible mistake. I,m beyond caring about the stats . We need a catcher upgrade. Offer Ruiz 2/ 22 if that is what it takes I firmly believe Ruiz would add at least 2wins
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 He would, even with JFaS' numbers. He's the perfect target for this team. He makes sense for so many reasons. If he is truly AA's guy then we have a good shot I think. Problem is no one knows what the f*** he is thinking right now. For all we know he ends up trading for a catcher.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Rosenthal thinks the Red Sox offered him the 2/20 deal. Rosenthal is guessing, suggesting simply that it makes sense for Boston.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Maybe he plans to entice Fasano out of retirement? LOL Thing is there is more to catching than pitch framing. Blocking the plate , blocking balls in the dirt , throwing out runners , and especially calling pitches !!! All things that I believe JPA doesn't,t do well that chooch excels in . I think JPA will improve and maybe become league average but this team can,t wait . The window closes after this year . But what the f*** do I know.. I,m just an old guy who believes in Pitching and defence ,something we had zero of last year .
kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Rosenthal thinks the Red Sox offered him the 2/20 deal. I,m going to be positive and think it was us.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Davidi confirmed in his latest article it's not us. So offer an option year with 2 mil buyout. I,m willing to over pay Chooch
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Huh? So why did you set a deadline? Because some of them are going to start signing soon??
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 So offer an option year with 2 mil buyout. I,m willing to over pay Chooch Give him 3 years instead of 2 if that's the difference maker. Worst case scenario he's an expensive quality backup in year 3.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 I suddenly don't think 99% likely Cano is a Yankee anymore: Leverage I think. I think they're letting Cano know they wont be bidding against themselves... and if someone does give him 10/300.. yeah, you let him walk.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Pretty sure Law's tweet is sarcastic lol. Just looked at the article. They're just quoting Cashman.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 NY Post: Brian Cashman has no delusions about his team’s top free-agent target this winter, longtime Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano. The Yankees general manager, often brutally honest, admitted Tuesday he anticipates Cano will wind up with his highest bidder. Cashman just hopes his team bids highest. “He loves the money, but I think we’ll have a substantial offer,” Cashman said at the general managers’ meetings. “Somebody might come in and have a much more substantial offer. It’s just the way it works.” The Yankees have discussed a seven-year contract worth $161 million or $168 million with Cano, who asked the club for a 10-year, $310 million deal. To date, no other suitor has emerged publicly for Cano’s services. Nevertheless, Cashman expects Cano to work deliberately through the free-agency process — “Usually the big ones drag it out,” Cashman said — and he professed he wouldn’t be surprised if the Yankees got outbid and Cano chose the higher bid. “It’s just the way it works. He’s in free agency. That’s the feeling I get,” Cashman said. “Doesn’t make it wrong at all. That’s what makes the U.S. the greatest place in the world. We just have to compete for that. “I feel very comfortable we’ll strongly compete for the player. But the value we put on him and the value somebody else puts on him might be vastly different. If it is, we’ll lose him.”
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports that Yasiel Puig, Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford have drawn interest on the trade market at the GM meetings this week. Naturally, the Dodgers are most reluctant to trade Puig. The team's willingness to move either Either or Crawford could ultimately depend on Kemp's progress from ankle surgery. The Dodgers may wait to see how the free agent market plays out before making a deal and it's always possible that they'll keep all four outfielders. --- Puig for Lawrie works for me.

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Kemp for Reyes. Then trade Rasmus for pitcher, sign Stephen Drew. yuck
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 I know it is bad , hell pretty bad but you are all doom and gloom and NO it is not 138 . It is between 132 and 134 depending on arb awards . Dumping JPA gets it close to 130. An NO this is not a 75 win team with health. Morrow healthy and giving us 33 starts , Lawrie and Reyes and Bautista all playing 150 plus games . Dickey healthy enough to have his velocity. Melky healthy and actually being able to run . You are one of the most knowledgeable posters on this board , that is a given but your constant doom and gloom ,sky is falling s*** gets old at times. Exaggerating the bad and not even admitting there are some positives gets old Stache. The pendulum is rocketing back & forth here. BTS with the doom and gloom and you with the, our old and broken players are all gonna be healthy all year. Let's all be realistic.
