Blue Jays are going after Gordon Beckham (White Sox interested Sanchez-Stroman )

Bluejays.com has a report that the Jays are going after Chicago White Sox' second baseman Gordon Beckham.

 

Beckham was a first round pick in 2008, he's been a bit of a disappointment for the White Sox, but there is a fair bit of potential there. Defensively, UZR has him about average, career 0.6 UZR/150, I'd like better than average defense, but then beggars can't be choosers.

 

They go on to add that:

 

It's also possible that the Blue Jays would look to expand any deal involving Beckham to also include a starting pitcher. Chicago's Hector Santiago and John Danks are known to be available, and the Blue Jays have a clear need to upgrade their current starting unit.

 

 

They say that the White Sox are interested in Aaron Sanchez and Marcus Stroman, but then who wouldn't be. I'd like to keep them personally. Gotta give something to get something, but I think Stroman could be part of the team at some point next season.

 

 

Anyway, what do you think? You want Gordon Beckham? What would you be willing to give up for him?

Good point. The White Sox leak everything which is why we are hearing about these rumors. I am fully expecting AA to trade Sanchez+ for Danks. It just did his MO so well haha

 

TBH though if I'm moving Sanchez/Stroman (let them pick) I'm asking for Sale back, not their mid-rotation guys.

Take out Sale and Add in Stroman + something else? Whatever you think is a fair deal, add a lot more value going the other way, and then repeat the process until it doesnt make any sense. Then you have yourself a deal AA would do

99% of the rumors regarding the Jays seem to be completely made up by some bored sportswriter. Let's wait until a deal actually happens before we start ranting.

Sale is the only player on that team we need. So he kinda needs to be included.

 

Although you just know his elbow would blow out the first day of ST under our training staff.

 

Even with just Sale coming this way what could the Jays really offer? IMO it'd be something like Sanchez/Stroman + Hutchison + some other less significant young pieces. In theory this may be approaching fair value for the Sox. However, young elite players locked up on team friendly deals are rarely traded and, when they are it is a sellers market. If The WSox were to shop Sale they would surely receive league-wide interest. They have no incentive to move Sale at this point and it would take a truly elite prospect, the type that the Jays do not possess, to land Sale. It just isn't going to happen.

Gordon Beckham has been so f***ing bad that his trade value is basically nil at this point. This could be fine, maybe they get Beckham for almost nothing and then bury Izturis behind Steam Whistle + sign a bargain bin FA to compete with Gord.

I'd rather see the Jays go after Danny Espinosa, especially if the Nats non-tender him. He's proven capable to be a 2-3 WAR player, and he's a year younger than Beckham as well.
