GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 You keep digging yourself into a deeper hole here The teenager in me is screaming to make a your mom joke. Fwiw I'm sure that he's a decent person irl and fairly intelligent and I don't actually disagree with him all that much, the ridiculous trolling that just took place aside.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 You sound like fatcow when we made him switch boards. I recall him begging the creators of this site for a post count transfer.

theblujay Verified Member Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Btw post count leaders in this thread: http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/misc.php?do=whoposted&t=1288 No surprises, but I wonder where JSFIP is.
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 So this thread has shifted from discussing future HOFer Ryan Goins to comparing our intelligence quotients with respect to Ryan Goins and his #1 fan?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 2146 posts in this thread later, now you switch sides? In general. Innnnnnnnnnnn. Generallllllll. We share opinions on the Leafs and have come to agreements on other things. I just really disagree with him in this thread a whole lot.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 That's only the last few posts, because when theblujay kept getting #roasted he would always fight back with how he thought our personal lives are. I assume that's a thing up where ever the hell you go to high school as well.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Nope, everytime I use it I'm mocking you And every time I use it I'm mocking the general teenage population so by extension you're mocking yourself that's not good for your self confidence you know I'm considering how long all of us have spent in this thread and it's pretty sad.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Time for bed. Goodnight Gordiepoo!!!!!!! Excuse you. The only one that can call me nicknames is my BFFL JSFIP, so back off.
theblujay Verified Member Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Goins lost to Romero in fantasy this week. Ricky to the championship led by Charles, Jackson and Tucker
flafson Verified Member Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Holy s***, i have 57 posts in this thread. I feel like i have no life...

Brenner Verified Member Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 If you build it, he will come... If you sign no one else, Goins will start...
theblujay Verified Member Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 From the other thread it looks more likely that AA is gonna go with Goins/Izturis. I can't wait for Goins to get a chance to see if he can stick.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 At this point, I wouldn't be opposed to trading Janssen for Darwin Barney. Holy f***ing s*** what have we as a fanbase come to.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Holy f***ing s*** what have we as a fanbase come to. I think someone got into the rum and eggnog lol. I'm all for trading Janssen, but we already have an all glove, no bat guy manning second. We don't need to trade for a another.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 At this point, I wouldn't be opposed to trading Janssen for Darwin Barney. Yuck, I would.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Barney has more bat and more glove! Lol. Obviously there are far better options (Franklin) but it would not be ludicrous to expect 1.5 WAR from Barney. His BABIP should regress back to norms and his D (and base running) is better than projections give him credit for. I'm not sure how he has more bat, and I'd probably rate the gloves as being equal. I don't think he's an upgrade at all.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 I'd say he's definitely a 0.5-1.0 win upgrade on Goins. I'd rather just gamble with what we have if the cost of Barney is Janssen. I doubt it would take that much to get him however, that's a big overpay.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 In market value of relievers, yes. In actual value, Barney is a superior asset to Janssen. Of course market value. Janssen is a major trade chip considering the prices teams are paying for closers. AA should look to move someone like McGowan. We really don't have much of a place for him considering all the relief options and with Stiltson looking like he will be pushing for a spot soon as well.
theblujay Verified Member Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Just go with Goins. We're not gonna find a real 3 WAR+ 2B and the difference between Goins/Izturis and someone we could actually get isn't going to make or break our playoffs hopes.
LunchBox Verified Member Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Barney was the first thing that came to mind last week when the reports surfaced that Goins was viewed as a viable starting option. Janssen for Barney is a legitimate option for both parties. This is strictly conjecture, but I believe the Cubs are unwilling to consummate this trade because they understand Janssen is expendable to the Jays. When Alex balked at the asking price for Shark, I imagine they tried to throw in Barney and get the haul of minor league pitching they sought. The Cubs' timeline makes some combination of Stroman, Sanchez and Norris considerably more valuable to them than Janssen. Gose+ is probably more likely to get Barney at this point, but the Jays don't really have the outfield depth to consider it. Additionally, Gose+ for Ackley/Franklin is a better fit.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 I'd be for Sanchez and Janssen for Shark and Barney. The ONLY scenario I could see where it would be worth while giving up someone like Janssen for Barney would be to platoon Goins and Barney (which might actually have some merit). Otherwise I have to believe he could bring back an MLB ready prospect (either at 2nd or outfield) that would be better for us long term. That said, I would give up Sanchez and Janssen for Shark by himself.
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 I'd be for Sanchez and Janssen for Shark and Barney. I would as well.
theblujay Verified Member Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 You say that like missing the playoffs by a game isn't possible. If we miss the playoffs by a game I'll count the season a success. I just want to see meaningful games after June
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 I would as well. I'd be in as well. The rumored asking price for Samardzija was Stroman and Sanchez. So you'd probably have to add another arm top get the deal done.
LunchBox Verified Member Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 I'd be for Sanchez and Janssen for Shark and Barney. My fault, "Janssen for Barney is a legitimate option for both parties." was very misleading. I meant to express simply that it was a fair trade, not that addresses the needs of both teams. I can't imagine a scenario in which Hoyer and Epstein see the need to acquire Janssen, 2014 should be meaningless to them as there are at least 3 (possibly 4) better teams in their division. Conversely, SEA may absolutely be deluded enough to believe they need Janssen. They're better trading partners on almost every level, except that there's no real possibility to expand the trade to include starting pitching.
theblujay Verified Member Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Goins working with the hitting coach? Sounds great! I can't wait to see how he plays next year. Who knows how he'll play, but with his defense it's definitely worth seeing what he can do with the bat.
theblujay Verified Member Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Haters gonna hate. Doubters gonna doubt

SEA get a (Capital C) Closer plus pitching depth and give up a blocked prospect. TOR get a 2B and save about $8M to spend on pitching. Both teams look to benefit in my eyes.
