TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 You make him an offer if you're Boston or New York or some other team with an unlimited payroll. When 14 million represents more than %10 of your payroll. No. You don't. Not on a hunch. That's just stupid. IT'S THE AL EAST. HE CANNOT PITCH IN THE AL EAST. He's making $13.75 right now. If they think he's worth that now, they won't have much issue paying him it next year.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Jesus f***ing Christ. Bautista is an asset, a big asset. However, to make like he's not aging and declining (naturally) into a slightly less valuable asset is completely delusional. that's not going to happen in 3 months though. If you are going to trade him he's got just as much value in the off season as now (barring a major injury as I stated in my original post). Jays aren't going to trade Bautista in the off season either so it's a moot point anyway.
Howard Roark Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Winning brings out fans. This team should make moves to make the team better so that it wins more, regardless if those moves mean that fan favourites are dealt. Bingo. The Board of Directors see it differently, however.

I have no problem not trading Bautista now or in the offseason without knowing the specifics of packages offered for him. I just think delusional ******** like "Bautista isn't declining" should probably be called out for what it is.

Which is when they might finally bring themselves to make the moves they should be starting to make now. PR considerations are what are driving this franchise. We're f***ed.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Come clean dude. In some posts you sound like a typical islander with a Grade 3 education. And in others like this one, its like you were born here. Sorry, but this s*** just doesn't come and go. Chris, we missed you on here! Glad your back!
KSaw Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 I've hated Johnson for years you f***in' tool and was opposed to him since day 1 of the deal. I argued that his peripherals point towards him improving...while I'd rather not have to deal with him, if he's on this team you have to offer him the qualifying offer. I don't flip flop very often and certainly haven't in this case. As for the second part, it's possible I get all you trolls mixed up. Not sure what you've hated. Sure, there are weird things about him. His 2-seamer is about as hard as his 4-seamer but the flatter pitch of the two is the one he throws about 50% of the time, as opposed to 5%. Makes little sense. I really think much of his problems are mechanical right now. His curve, change, slider are all coming out at close to 2 o'clock. His fastball (4-seam) and sinker (2-seam) are coming out closer to 1 o'clock. That was never the case before and it not only flattens his fastballs, it tips his pitches.

GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Asset management...This isn't Oakland. We aren't small market. Not big market either.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Which AL East team made a trade you liked ? You are seriously contradicting yourself because they were all trying to add veteran help and you've been telling the Jays to do the OPPOSITE for months. How am I contradicting myself? It's one thing for a winning team making a playoff push to add veteran help at the deadline - it's a whole other thing for a horrendous last place team like the Jays to essentially shuffle deck chairs on the Titanic. I would have been thrilled if AA moved Bautista and the bullpen for prospects. Those were the kind of deals we needed to make. Chasing after Howie freaking Kendrick and then just giving up and standing pat was a complete waste of time and ensures that this franchise will remain mired in s*** for the foreseeable future. You're so drunk off the Rogers/Beeston/AA KoolAid that your arguments don't make sense.

Howard Roark Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Not big market either. Only New York and Los Angeles are larger markets within MLB than Toronto. We overtook Chicago metro area in population a few years ago. We're big market, with a mid-market mentality.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Since you haven't answered this and ignored the question, I'm gonna assume that by you saying "mixed up" you mean that you completely made it up and pulled it straight out of your ass. Good one. Signing off for the night. I have things to do. Peace. I'm pretty f***ing sure he's suggesting that YOU got mixed up, not him
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 vai.........vai...............vai...........vaivaivaivaivaivai!11!!1!!!111 -cums- Do you like that big ass? http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3288/3144313714_a28ecac97c.jpg

Even if her face is ugly, if she's got it below the waist, I'm game. It's the fact that they're mixed white/black/native that does it.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Oh you got mixed up. Good one. Smart move. Since you got mixed up, I'm curious to see the post you were referring to. Please direct me. In the JJ's agent thread. Sorry you are the one that annoyed me with my favourite phrase that he can't pitch in the AL East. It was Cooler Heads that said pitchers like Johnson don't get $14M contracts. I just pointed out to you that many AL East pitchers have got rocked and they came back and pitched well. I've never said that i think JJ will but I believe in peripherals so I'd say he's got a better chance of pitching better next year. I can't predict his health and yes sometimes peripherals are not indicators.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 I'm pretty f***ing sure he's suggesting that YOU got mixed up, not him Nope, I had discussions with both him and Cooler Heads in the same thread. I got them mixed up...this is what I get for talking to these guys like they are people.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Does he mean "improve the ballclub" now or for the future? I'm scared to think Bautista for Profar was in play and AA didn't bite, thinking the team would be worse in 2014... f***! I was thinking the same thing. I would've taken a Mazara, Guzman, Odor return if Profar was off the table.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Bautista's value isn't going down without a major injury. Not to mention there would be so much negative backlash for this team from the casuals. If I remember correctly, the Carter/Alomar, Fernandez/McGriff trade wasn't a fan favourite either when it went down.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 If I remember correctly, the Carter/Alomar, Fernandez/McGriff trade wasn't a fan favourite either when it went down. Didn't Pat Gillick's wife tell him to come from the Winter Meetings before he wrecked the team any further?
Cooler Heads Prevail Verified Member Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 In the JJ's agent thread. I can't predict his health and yes sometimes peripherals are not indicators. I didn't say "pitchers like Johnson don't get $14M contracts". What I likely said was they aren't worth the gamble. Big difference. I don't doubt the chances that some team like the Dodgers are willing to throw money around and hope they get lucky. I see no evidance the Jays are comfortable with a $200M budget yet.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Casual fans = Majority of the fan base And? What's their opinion, what do they want? They want a winner. Their opinions on building a winning team would be like a child on Just Like Mom making chocolate chip cookies with C-Plus & Ketchup as the main ingredients. cheer, spend money & spread the word.....but it should be questions they're asking, not opinions.
Howard Roark Verified Member Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Can't afford to piss off some of the bandwagoneers now, can we? Running the franchise the wrong way to appease those who don't know any better is just good business, apparently. It's akin to letting your toddler eat nothing but candy because that's what they like. In a year they'll have no teeth, but wtf they wanted it?! edit: just saw Gibbers used a similar kid-food analogy to address the same point too, hah.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Get used to the idea of Bautista retiring as a Blue Jay. Trade value means nothing if you aren't looking to deal. It's sad and probably true.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Now that we haven't traded any of our bp arms, I'm excited for them in 2014 At least we have one area set.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Chris, we missed you on here! Glad your back! I'm on here a little bit. Still trying to get use to the site.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Chris, you're a f***ing racist s*** but still my respects to you. btw I was raised by native Tainos. Please refute the fact that most people from Caribbean countries have a poor education. Sorry that's not racist, its an observation.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 If I remember correctly, the Carter/Alomar, Fernandez/McGriff trade wasn't a fan favourite either when it went down. But this team isn't coming off of a record breaking attendance season, nor does it look like trading a Bautista for Profar on it's own would make the Jays a winning team. I can't see attendance going anywhere but down next season and I don't advocate making moves (or non moves) for PR purposes but I think for the Jays to continue with a larger payroll that's probably the way they have to think. Maybe you luck into becoming a winning team somewhere along the line. None of it is good baseball sense but I've given up on thinking that will happen.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Only New York and Los Angeles are larger markets within MLB than Toronto. We overtook Chicago metro area in population a few years ago. We're big market, with a mid-market mentality. I'd be willing to put big money on it there's more fans who can carry an intelligent conversation about baseball in Chicago than all of Canada. And if you're basing market on Population does that mean the Coyotes are a bigger NHL market than the Habs?
