Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Marcus Stroman "Some stuff you read on twitter is hilarious. Everyone THINKS they know what they're talking about. Lol #clowns" (To KLaw) Angrioter to Stroman "Tommy LaSorda " Pedro is small and thin he can't start games....put him in the bullpen or trade him for Delino DeShields" Stroman thanked me and then retweeted -favorites.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Great stuff. I hate it when guys like Law pretend they know more than they do. The way he talks in absolutes is annoying.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Author Posted July 20, 2013 I started the fight. I told Stroman via twitter the case Pedro Vs LaSorda and he felt identified lol
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 "Call him up to the pen" warrants being called a clown? Why would Stroman be angry over that little tweet?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Author Posted July 20, 2013 This isn't about KLaw at all, you're making things up Angrioter. Stroman posts that kind of "me against the world" stuff all the time, it pumps him up. Stroman has a good relationship in real life with KLaw from I've seen on twitter. I'm sure they even talked after the game about stuff. agree. I'll send you a direct message on twitter.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 KLaw isn't slighting him. Nothing wrong by saying he's ready for the pen. There's also no way that's directed at Keith. Bingo. This was my interpretation as well.
baseballsss Verified Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Maybe everybody that plays for the jays organization should just shut their mouths get rid of twitter and play the f***ing game.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Maybe everybody that plays for the jays organization should just shut their mouths get rid of twitter and play the f***ing game. Would be a good first step. It's not really as detrimental I think that some make it out to be, but to an athlete being paid ludicrous amounts of money to play a game, they should have more important things to worry about than what people say about them on twitter.

I don't follow other teams as close as the jays only watch their games but i really can't see other teams managment allowing players to say whatever they want whenever they want on social media espicially when your in the bigs and close to the bigs.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Gotta love Stroman My favorite player in the minors
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I'm pretty they sure sell shirts with players twitter handles on the back They do.

Screw this. The JPA ripping on Hayhurst and Zaun situation was the most entertaining thing that his happened in this garbage-can of a season.

Buster Verified Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 it also makes the orgnization look like a piece of s*** All I want is to be entertained. The team certainly isn't doing it on the field.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 it also makes the orgnization look like a piece of s*** But the organization is a piece of s***...

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Hey Im kinda rooting for Michael Crouse to make it
mitchf Verified Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 KLaw proclaimed him as the most MLB ready player in the 2012 draft. He's just not letting a handful of starts sway his opinion.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Great stuff. I hate it when guys like Law pretend they know more than they do. The way he talks in absolutes is annoying. Exactly. He speaks with such absolute certainty in a business in which there is so much uncertainty (i.e. Prospect/Player Evaluations). If a player he doesn't like succeeds it's always because that player "changed something" or learned some "new skill" that allowed them to improve, rather than him just having been wrong in the first place. If Stroman succeeds I can't wait for Law to explain that he improved his command "in a way that couldn't have been expected" or he developed a changeup or sinking fastball that offset whatever weakness he had. He basically did the same thing with Matt Harvey. When he burst onto the scene Law was talking about how he learned a nasty slider in the minors that he didn't have before, despite the fact that Harvey was reputed to have a nasty slider since college. lol This is also the same guy that said Bautista was a flash in the pan, and could never have continued success with his approach.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Interesting. Klaw and Stroman were on pretty good terms when they were drafted (they followed each other on twitter). And I really don't think this was Keith Law disrespecting Stroman. He probably just thinks that Stroman can contribute to the majors right now as a reliever.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2013 Author Posted July 25, 2013 KLaw right now I did indeed, and apologize for failing to turn it into a post. He was good, but I'm quite convinced now that he's a reliever down the road. He had some more life on his fastball than he did in college, but still isn't missing enough bats with it - he misses bats with the slider, and the changeup will eventually do that for him as well, but between his height and the contact on the heater, I think he's a future closer or setup man.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2013 Author Posted July 25, 2013 KLaw If the Jays are smart enough to trade some of their relievers - Janssen and Cecil jump out as obvious candidates - there will be a spot for Stroman soon enough.

So Stroman has fringe-plus velo, can hit both sides of the plate with his fastball, misses bats with his change-up and plus-plus slider and has decent command of it all. The biggest knock is his height and he doesn't K people with his fastball. Sounds like a back-end starter at the least to me, from what I've seen of his stuff so far I'd suggest he could become even more than that.

Well a guy like Carreno has filthy K/9 numbers in the minors but no one really liked him as a starter. Stroman could end up like a Carreno, but just extremely good in the BP.

Stroman is angry
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2013 Author Posted July 25, 2013 We'll never know what Stroman can do at the ML level until he's doing it. He's like Kevin Pillar in that respect. You can't project him into a starting role until he's in that starting role and succeeding. Avg - Fastball Plus - breakingball Avg - offspeed Sound good to me. f*** Drew Storen ceiling.

Carreno was never really age appropriate for the level (23yo in A+ and 24yo in AA debut) and doesn't have as good as a fastball as Stroman but, it's a decent comparison nonetheless. I think Carreno can be a set-up man and Stroman is a couple notches ahead of him.

Wholeheartedly agree but saying he can't SO guys off his FB isn't a fair criticism as he can be a successful MLB pitcher just commanding the FB to both sides of the plate with an elite out pitch.
