Buster Verified Member Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 What Rasmus did last year. I'll offer 1 year contract, use financial incentive to motivate. Everybody we locked up long term early they immediately tanked ie. Escobar 2011 season, Romero, Morrow, Happ, Lind, Hill, Rios. Mistake to lock up players too early, he's not free agent until 2015 All players are motivated by money to some degree. But I get the feeling that Rasmus isn't as much as most.
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Rasmus has had some big first halves before, and then tanked after the ASB. He has to keep doing what he's been doing. But he's been doing well. Same OPS as Adam Jones. Good CF defense. He's a really excellent baserunner too. Always gets great reads and never seems caught out there. 263/332/484. 119 OPS+
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 He's been everything that we could ask for this year, one of the few bright spots for the club. He's never going to hit .300 or post a high OBP methinks, but he gives you well above average defence and power in centre, and he'll provide great D in one of the corner outfield spots in 3 years or so when he loses a step or two. Hopefully Gose can get his s*** together by that point and take over there by then. What is fascination with Gose? He is Kawasaki running around in CF. good glove but no stick. Hasn't been able to hit in minors, very unlikely to "get it" now

If only he could somehow manage to post an OBP above .330 I'd have no problem with him patrolling centre for years to come.
mellowgold Verified Member Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Time to bump the Gump thread. .274/.339/.827 with excellent D (minus the hail marys he launches to home every now and again). Is he finally scratching the surface of all that talent? BTS must be stretching his typing fingers for a workout on the Cards board.
mellowgold Verified Member Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Rasmus needs to be moved to LF. For me hes way to inconsistent to make a major financial commitment to. I think you sell high right now Unless Gose pulls his head out of his ass and forces his way on to this team, there's no reason to take Colby out of CF.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Hes struggling defensively. Really? I don't see that at all. Im all for moving Rasmus to LF and putting Gose in CF, but Gose really doesn't deserve to be in the majors right now. Maybe he can get some games in during September.

CHRIS Verified Member Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 The Jays are totally going to buy high on Rasmus this offseason. Hopefully this is the new normal. I don't disagree with the idea of moving Rasmus to LF at some point. I'm thinking I would almost prefer Rasmus in LF and Gose in CF while kicking Melky to the bench right now.
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Hes struggling defensively I really don't care if Gose hits. Bat him 9th and don't let him face lefties. We will get value out of him. So one ball bounces over his head and now he's struggling defensively? The Rasmus I've been watching this year isn't having any defensive problems that concern me. I'd make Gose earn his spot, we have enough players on this team with an OBP in the .250 range. The 12 stolen bases with just a 50% success rate is abysmal, he's done nothing this season to show he belongs with the big club.

I don't think Gose is the typical prospect, and I'd hate to see the Jays treat him as such. While most prospects (I guess) establish themselves at each level before moving up, I don't think Gose fits this pattern. I think he's struggling because in his mind, he thinks he should be up here playing. That's not to say that that's what you hope for in the mindset of a prospect, but I feel like if the Jays want to get any value from him, they should bring him up and evaluate him at the major league level. If they wait for things to "click" in the minors, I don't think they'll get any value from Gose.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Cleatus' bat plays amazingly in CF, stick him in LF and he becomes a below average bat for the position... Also, he's an amazing CF, his range and most importantly his reads off the bat are phenomenal and his arm is passable for the position. Gose needs to hit his way on to this team, because there is zero reason to displace Colby right now.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 I wouldn't be upset with trading Davis and replacing him with Gose Davis against left handed pitching is a huge asset, but in the end he's a bench player... I'd trade Bonifacio or Melky before Davis, if I had the choice.
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 I wouldn't be upset with trading Davis and replacing him with Gose I'd rather extend Davis, he probably won't cost much and he's one of the more valuable 4th outfielders in the league. He's also been one of the best base stealers in all of baseball this season.
Ehh Verified Member Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Hes struggling defensively. We need an excellent defender with outstanding speed to get to more balls in CF. Rasmus profiles much better in Left. You can hide his lack of throwing arm in LF better as well. I really don't care if Gose hits. Bat him 9th and don't let him face lefties. We will get value out of him. He has not been struggling defensively. He mis played one ball hit to him which was costly, but he's been one of the best fielding CF's in baseball this year. That's why his WAR is so high

(Oven Mitts Above Average, just so I don't have to write a second post explaining that when someone asks...)

(Oven Mitts Above Average, just so I don't have to write a second post explaining that when someone asks...) Took me a minute to figure out WTF you were talking about. I think he actually gives himself an extra inch or two of reach with that thing. I'm surprised we don't see more guys wearing that type of protection, if I remember correctly Davis was constantly having problems with his fingers before he started wearing it.

It's also such a luxury to have a guy that can pretty much automatically steal every time he's on, I didn't realize he was the much better at it then reyes and boni untill watching this year

His wOBA this year would put him 4th among qualified major league LF and tied for 4th among qualified RF. Also, his defensive value would likely go up moving from CF to LF.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Pretty soon Rasmus is going to be known as a great baseball player and not a s***** rock band. http://d3fsqtc6sy2z27.cloudfront.net/uploads/a556b957a8f12c15c09a9a2dc0ae7ae0_large

Sorrow Verified Member Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Can Rasmus be moved up? He and EE are the only two reliable hitters in terms of RBI. No Rasmus can't aim his line drives so we need to keep him down in the order.
