admin Site Manager Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Did I hear that right? Dickey will go in the final game versus the Indians and Buehrle will start versus teh O's? Tablers reasoning was Dickey already pitched three times against the O's lol. Is it because they've mashed him every time? 16 runs in three starts. Or is it because he's the 'ace' and with the day off, they want to move him up a day? If there is a "Dickey Effect", it wont' be happening this time because Buehrle starts the series. I find it hilarious if they're keeping him away from the Orioles when he is supposed to be our ace. Imagine moving Halladay around to skip a series because he pitched against them three times already lol, wouldn't see that.

Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 this post made me laugh Honestly, it's fun to watch the team shatter the confidence he's trying to get back. Former Cy Young winner, 3 consecutive dominant seasons.... DON'T LET HIM PITCH TO THE O'S.
flafson Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Why shatter his confidence? They gain confidence by succeeding, if they think it will improve his chances of winning then it will improve his confidence not shatter it. If he's lose then it probably wouldn't make any difference.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Shatter his confidence? What is he a child?
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Shatter his confidence? What is he a child? Is baseball not just as much a mental game? Every little bit matters.
flafson Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 It is a mental game but there is a difference between getting Dickey out of a game after 80 pitches cause you don't trust him and choosing which team is a better fit for him to play against so he can win.

I don't agree with this approach at all, but whatever. Let's just agree to disagree.
flafson Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I don't know if i agree or not but i see the rational and i'm pretty sure they are doing what they believe will give the team a better chance of winning. For the whole season i was looking for the Dickey effect but can't really see i noticed any difference, so might aswell try something else.

The organization is making way too many decisions based on SSS... it's like they have a team of amateur sports enthusiasts making decisions.

Well, except on Bonifacio and JPA, there ain't a sample big enough to make them give up on at least Bonifiasco.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Well, except on Bonifacio and JPA, there ain't a sample big enough to make them give up on at least Bonifiasco. Let's be honest. There's no better option.. Thole? No way. They gambled with JPA when they traded D'Arnaud away... suffice to say it didn't pay off.
8D Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I think it's smart and shows a bit of humility. The Jays, Gibby and probably Dickey himself knows he'll get crushed again, so why not dodge the start before the AS break and try to end it on a high. Gibbons probably had a 1-on-1 w/ Dickey and they both probably agreed this was best.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Thole yes way. Josh Thole, you mean the guy with career slugging less than John McDonald? Is his higher OBP going to make up for his lack of production? Is his defensive ability significantly better? Seems doubtful... not really a guy you want to build your team around.

And his OBP potential makes him a reasonable bottom of the order guy. No, he's not a guy you want to build your team around, but neither is JPA.
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 All I know is, this team better be sellers at the deadline... Just because we're selling now, doesn't mean we're giving up next year... AA do the right thing, please

Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Dickey's offensive WAR = JPA WAR JPA is a offense first catcher who can't hit. Thole is a defense first catcher who has average to slightly above average defense and can get on base at a higher clip than JPA. http://i.imgur.com/1IbeZKN.png BB%? WTF is this I don't even... please use more qualifiable stats and then we'll talk.

(how bad JPA is)

No, he's not a guy you want to build your team around, but neither is JPA. Agree. This off season need to acquire a reliable catcher via free asgency The market will be flush with them, driving down prices Someone just needs to convince AA that Arencibia is inadequate I can even (gulp) live with Izturis at 2B next year if they upgrade at catcher and make sure they have 3 productive outfielders and if Lawrie looks better second half
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 JPA for backup next year to someone who provides above average defense
flafson Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 JPA for backup next year to someone who provides above average defense The only thing i don't like about his defense right now is the fact he tries to back hand too many balls in the dirt and causes the runners to advance, other than that he got better at defense.

Better blocking. Still poor pitch framing and terrible throwing. I just don't like the whole package.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 JPA for backup next year to someone who provides above average defense JPA needs to go, not backup. I can just imagine what a stink he will cause if he is moved to a backup role and this team needs to rid itself of bigmouth players who need to learn to shut the f*** up.

My God this organization has an atrocious record on drafting and developing position players. It's just incredibly bad.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 My God this organization has an atrocious record on drafting and developing position players. It's just incredibly bad. I'd put focus on the development part of that. Bad drafting is such a bs excuse. You get several dozen picks every year and have sources out there that rank the top prospects similarly. Not all your draft picks can consistently suck year after year. It's how you develop them after you sign them that determines if they suck or not. Poach some player development guys from TB or the Cards or some other team with success in developing their players and be done with it. Look how much positive effect acquiring Delabar and inheriting his program has had already on the team and he's not even a coach.
Smokey Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 How is this f***ing guy expected to pitch in the cold days of October (I know, a pipe dream for this team) when he can't even be relied on to pitch against a division rival in the middle of the July?? Can't believe so many people were stupid enough to defend this trade at the time... SMH
