DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 AA said he was waiting a week to 10 days for the trade market to heat up. Who here thinks he hits the panic button and overpays to get the "right" guy now?
dmrich28 Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Panic for what? That time is long past.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Cliff Lee and Utley. Not even they can save this team now.
Pete_7 Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Why trade for anyone? The smart move would be to sell. But only certain pieces, not a full on implosion

Who here thinks he hits the panic button and overpays to get the "right" guy now? How can you call up 50 starting pitchers and send them back down after 1-2 bad outings and NOT BE PANICING??????
Pete_7 Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I think Rasmus has to stay. I love Gose, but he's played like complete dog s*** this year. I agree. He may strike out a shitload but he plays good defense and gets on base at a decent rate.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 There is a solid chance Rasmus is worth 4 WAR at the end of the year. I don't think we should be so quick to let him go.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I think Rasmus has to stay. I love Gose, but he's played like complete dog s*** this year. He can hit like s*** and still not be our worst position player in left field, or second worst, probably not even the 3rd worst.
Slot Machine Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Tbh, at this point I think AA is just a slave to Rogers. I think that if this thing continues to go south they will stand pat, with a slight chance for a panic move or a nothing move.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 There is a solid chance Rasmus is worth 4 WAR at the end of the year. I don't think we should be so quick to let him go. I like Rasmus even if he's not Fapmus anymore.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Keeping him brings up a pretty interesting question: what the f*** do we do with him. Next year is his final arb year. Does he want to be here long-term? If so, how much money does it take to sign him? I like Rasmus, but I'm pretty uncomfortable with guaranteed long-term money. I think with his experiences in St. Louis, he might actually really want to stay here. It's very obvious that he's much happier here, so maybe he takes the devil he knows on a cheaper deal than the devil he doesn't...
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I think Rasmus has to stay. I love Gose, but he's played like complete dog s*** this year. He almost certainly has to stay unless moving him results in a significant upgrade at 2B which I just don't see happening. Right now the potential contending core for 2014 should be Rasmus, Bautista, EE, Reyes, Lawrie and Melky. That is good enough to contend if AA can get strong defenders at 2B and C. If he can get guys with a bat as well that is a bonus, but I don't think its critical. This team would be above .500 right now if we had glove first guys at 2B and C. This is all assuming Melky can run again otherwise we would need a LF as well and he probably falls to DH.

CHRIS Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 You could bring up Gose, he could be the worst hitter in the majors, and he'd still be more valuable than a third of our roster.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I think Rasmus has to stay. I love Gose, but he's played like complete dog s*** this year. I always wondered this..... why the f*** did AA extend Morrow but didn't extend Rasmus?? We could have bought low Even if the plan was to keep Gose longterm, an extension should have been inplace in case something like this happened so we can trade him at even a bigger value He almost certainly has to stay unless moving him results in a significant upgrade at 2B which I just don't see happening. Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Rasmus + prospect for Utley is imminent lol Change Rasmus to Gose and I think you got the framework for a deal.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Of course he'll panic. Full on "we're out of tzatziki and the only store near here is Whole Foods" mode.
